    Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal galaxy observed by H.E.S.S

    Dwarf spheroidal galaxies are characterized by a large measured mass-to-light ratio and are not expected to be the site of high-luminosity non-thermal high-energy gamma-ray emissions. Therefore they are among the most promising candidates for indirect searches of dark matter particle annihilation signals in gamma rays. The Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal galaxy has been regularly observed by the High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.) of Cherenkov telescopes for more than 90 hours, searching for TeV gamma-ray emission from annihilation of dark matter particles.     Xeff analysis method optimization to enhance IACTs performances

    The seek of high precision analyses in Îł\gamma-ray astronomy leads to the implementation of multivariate combination, benefiting from several reconstruction methods. Such analysis, called XeffX_{eff}, was developed for the H.E.S.S. data using three shower reconstruction methods. This paper presents the improvement granted to this analysis by refining the distribution calculation of discriminant variables, considering observation conditions, and adding new variables in the XeffX_{eff} combination. The efficiency of the analysis is presented using simulations and real data.     Mixing, conveying and injection molding hybrid system for conductive polymer composites

    The demand for conductive fuel cell stack components contributed to the research and development of composite materials and technologies. Significant activities were directed to the study of low-cost bipolar plates made in thermosets and thermoplastics manufactured by compression and injection molding. For the production of conductive thermoplastics carbon-polymers composites are used methods including thermokineting, twin screw extruder, or Banbury type mixing. In this paper are presented the results of research of a technology combining the mixing of the pellets of a composite carbon black in a polymer matrix with expanded graphite and conveying the compound to the injection molding unit and then, the melt injection molded into a micro-channel bipolar plate for a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC)

    D-aspartic acid (D-Asp), aromatase enzyme activity and the putative D-Asp involvement on aromatase induction have been studied in the testis of mature boars. The peroxidase-antiperoxidase and the indirect immunofluorescence methods, applied to cryostat and paraffin sections, were used to evaluate D-Asp and aromatase distributions. D-Asp level was dosed by an enzymatic method performed on boar testis extracts. Biochemical aromatase activity was determined by in vitro experiments carried out on testis extracts. D-Asp immunoreactivity was found in Leydig cells, and, to a lesser extent, in germ cells. Analogously, aromatase immunoreactivity was present in Leydig cells, but absent from seminiferous tubule elements. In vitro experiments showed that the addition of D-Asp to testicular tissue acetone powder induced a significant increase of aromatase activity, as assessed by testosterone conversion to 17beta-estradiol. Enzyme Km was not affected by D-Asp (about 25 nM in control and D-Asp added tests). These findings suggest that D-Asp could be involved in the local regulation of aromatase in boar Leydig cells and intervenes in this organ's production of estrogens

    Searching for galactic axions through magnetized media: QUAX status report

    We propose a search of galactic axions with mass about 0.2 ”eV using a large volume resonant cavity, about 50 m3, cooled down to 4 K and immersed in a moderate axial magnetic field of about 0.6 T generated inside the superconducting magnet of the KLOE experiment [1] located at the National Laboratory of Frascati of INFN. This experiment, called KLASH (KLoe magnet for Axion SearcH) in the following, has a potential sensitivity on the axion-to-photon coupling, gaγγ, of about 6 × 10−17 GeV−1, reaching the region predicted by KSVZ [2] and DFSZ [3] models of QCD axions
