On transport in quantum Hall systems with constrictions

Motivated by recent experimental findings, we study transport in a simple phenomenological model of a quantum Hall edge system with a gate-voltage controlled constriction lowering the local filling factor. The current backscattered from the constriction is seen to arise from the matching of the properties of the edge-current excitations in the constriction (ν2\nu_{2}) and bulk (ν1\nu_{1}) regions. We develop a hydrodynamic theory for bosonic edge modes inspired by this model, finding that a competition between two tunneling process, related by a quasiparticle-quasihole symmetry, determines the fate of the low-bias transmission conductance. In this way, we find satisfactory explanations for many recent puzzling experimental results.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Correlation between solar neutrino flux and other solar phenomena

A study was made of the solar neutrino data with a tank of CC14 located 4800 mwe underground for the period 1970 to 83. These observations are on the production rates of Ar37 atoms via the reaction upsilon sub e + Cl37 yields Ar37 plus e(-) in the tank caused presumably by a flux of neutrinos from the Sun. The idea of possible time variations in the data shown is discussed and an attempt is made to correlate the variations to two other phenomena of solar origin-the sunspot number and the geomagnetic Ap index

Neutrino Mass Matrices with Two Vanishing Elements/Cofactors

We study the phenomenological implications of the recent neutrino data for class B of two texture zeros and two vanishing cofactors for Majorana neutrinos in the flavor basis. We find that classes B1B_{1}(B2B_2) of two texture zeros and classes B5B_5(B6B_6) of two vanishing cofactors have similar predictions for neutrino oscillation parameters for the same mass hierarchy. Similar predictions for classes B3B_3(B4B_4) of two texture zeros and classes B3B_3(B4B_4) of two vanishing cofactors are expected. However, a preference for a shift in the quadrant of the Dirac-type CP violating phase(δ\delta) in contrast to the earlier analysis has been predicted for a relatively large value of the reactor neutrino mixing angle(θ13\theta_{13}) for class B of two texture zeros and two vanishing cofactors for an inverted mass spectrum. No such shift in the quadrant of δ\delta has been found for the normal mass spectrum.Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures and 3 table

© 2016 The Authors. Published by Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA.The remarkable activity displayed by copper(I)–phosphinite complexes of general formula [CuBr(L)] in two challenging cycloadditions is reported: a) the one-pot azidonation/cycloaddition of boronic acids, NaN3, and terminal alkynes; b) the cycloaddition of azides and iodoalkynes. These air-stable catalysts led to very good results in both cases and the expected triazoles could be isolated in pure form under ‘Click-suitable’ conditions
