Detrended fluctuation analysis on the correlations of complex networks under attack and repair strategy
We analyze the correlation properties of the Erdos-Renyi random graph (RG)
and the Barabasi-Albert scale-free network (SF) under the attack and repair
strategy with detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA). The maximum degree k_max,
representing the local property of the system, shows similar scaling behaviors
for random graphs and scale-free networks. The fluctuations are quite random at
short time scales but display strong anticorrelation at longer time scales
under the same system size N and different repair probability p_re. The average
degree , revealing the statistical property of the system, exhibits
completely different scaling behaviors for random graphs and scale-free
networks. Random graphs display long-range power-law correlations. Scale-free
networks are uncorrelated at short time scales; while anticorrelated at longer
time scales and the anticorrelation becoming stronger with the increase of
p_re.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Gene transcription analysis during interaction between potato and Ralstonia solanacearum
Bacterial wilt (BW) caused by Ralstonia solanacearum (Rs) is an important quarantine disease that spreads worldwide and infects hundreds of plant species. The BW defense response of potato is a complicated continuous process, which involves transcription of a battery of genes. The molecular mechanisms of potato-Rs interactions are poorly understood. In this study, we combined suppression subtractive hybridization and macroarray hybridization to identify genes that are differentially expressed during the incompatible interaction between Rs and potato. In total, 302 differentially expressed genes were identified and classified into 12 groups according to their putative biological functions. Of 302 genes, 81 were considered as Rs resistance-related genes based on the homology to genes of known function, and they have putative roles in pathogen recognition, signal transduction, transcription factor functioning, hypersensitive response, systemic acquired resistance, and cell rescue and protection. Additionally, 50 out of 302 genes had no match or low similarity in the NCBI databases, and they may represent novel genes. Of seven interesting genes analyzed via RNA gel blot and semi-quantitative RT-PCR, six were induced, one was suppressed, and all had different transcription patterns. The results demonstrate that the response of potato against Rs is rapid and involves the induction of numerous various genes. The genes identified in this study add to our knowledge of potato resistance to Rs
Overcoming laser diode nonlinearity issues in multi-channel radio-over-fiber systems
The authors demonstrate how external light injection into a directly modulated laser diode may be used to enhance the performance of a multi-channel radio-over-fiber system operating at a frequency of 6 GHz. Performance improvements of up to 2 dB were achieved by linearisation of the lasers-modulation response. To verify the experimental work a simulation of the complete system was carried out using Matlab. Good correlation was observed between experimental and simulated results
Charmonium states in QCD-inspired quark potential model using Gaussian expansion method
We investigate the mass spectrum and electromagnetic processes of charmonium
system with the nonperturbative treatment for the spin-dependent potentials,
comparing the pure scalar and scalar-vector mixing linear confining potentials.
It is revealed that the scalar-vector mixing confinement would be important for
reproducing the mass spectrum and decay widths, and therein the vector
component is predicted to be around 22%. With the state wave functions obtained
via the full-potential Hamiltonian, the long-standing discrepancy in M1
radiative transitions of and are alleviated
spontaneously. This work also intends to provide an inspection and suggestion
for the possible among the copious higher charmonium-like states.
Particularly, the newly observed X(4160) and X(4350) are found in the
charmonium family mass spectrum as MeV and MeV, which strongly favor the assignments
respectively. The corresponding radiative transitions, leptonic and two-photon
decay widths have been also predicted theoretically for the further
experimental search.Comment: 16 pages,3 figure

Effective average action in statistical physics and quantum field theory
An exact renormalization group equation describes the dependence of the free
energy on an infrared cutoff for the quantum or thermal fluctuations. It
interpolates between the microphysical laws and the complex macroscopic
phenomena. We present a simple unified description of critical phenomena for
O(N)-symmetric scalar models in two, three or four dimensions, including
essential scaling for the Kosterlitz-Thouless transition.Comment: 34 pages,5 figures,LaTe
Vortex in a d-wave superconductor at low temperatures
A systematic perturbation theory is developed to describe the magnetic
field-induced subdominant - and -wave order parameters in the mixed
state of a -wave superconductor, enabling us to obtain, within
weak-coupling BCS theory, analytic results for the free energy of a d-wave
superconductor in an applied magnetic field H_{c1}\ltsim H\ll H_{c2} from
down to very low temperatures. Known results for a single isolated vortex
in the Ginzburg-Landau regime are recovered, and the behavior at low
temperatures for the subdominant component is shown to be qualitatively
different. In the case of subdominant pair component, superfluid
velocity gradients and an orbital Zeeman effect are shown to compete in
determining the vortex state, but for realistic field strengths the latter
appears to be irrelevant. On this basis, we argue that recent predictions of a
low-temperature phase transition in connection with recent thermal conductivity
measurements are unlikely to be correct.Comment: 20 RevTEX pages, 6 EPS figures; considerably expanded versio
Dynamics of 2D pancake vortices in layered superconductors
The dynamics of 2D pancake vortices in Josephson-coupled
superconducting/normal - metal multilayers is considered within the
time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau theory. For temperatures close to a
viscous drag force acting on a moving 2D vortex is shown to depend strongly on
the conductivity of normal metal layers. For a tilted vortex line consisting of
2D vortices the equation of viscous motion in the presence of a transport
current parallel to the layers is obtained. The specific structure of the
vortex line core leads to a new dynamic behavior and to substantial deviations
from the Bardeen-Stephen theory. The viscosity coefficient is found to depend
essentially on the angle between the magnetic field and the
axis normal to the layers. For field orientations close to the layers
the nonlinear effects in the vortex motion appear even for slowly moving vortex
lines (when the in-plane transport current is much smaller than the
Ginzburg-Landau critical current). In this nonlinear regime the viscosity
coefficient depends logarithmically on the vortex velocity .Comment: 15 pages, revtex, no figure
Tuning optical modes in slab photonic crystal by atomic layer deposition and laser-assisted oxidation
The authors experimentally investigate the effects of atomic layer deposition (ALD) and laser-assisted oxidation on the optical modes in GaAs L3 photonic crystal air-bridge cavities, using layers of InAs quantum dots as internal light source. Four distinct optical mode peaks are observed in the photonic bandgap and they show different wavelength-redshifts (0–6.5 nm) as the photonic crystal surface is coated with an Al2O3 layer (0–5.4 nm thick). Numerical finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations can well-reproduce the experimental result and give insight into the origin of the shifts of modes with different spatial profiles. By combining the ALD coating with in situ laser-assisted oxidation, we are able to both redshift and blueshift the optical modes and we attribute the blueshift to the formation of a GaAs-oxide at the expense of GaAs at the interface between GaAs and the Al2O3 layer. This result can be quantitatively reproduced by including a GaAs-oxide layer into the FDTD model. Selective etching experiments, confirm that this GaAs-oxide layer is mainly at the interface between GaAs and Al2O3 layers
