Flexible electrical conductors for high-temperature switchgear
Arch-shaped conductors fabricated from flat strips of beryllium oxide dispersion-strengthened copper alloy serve as flexible electrical connectors capable of operating in 1000 deg F temperature range, under vacuum conditions for periods of 10,000 hours or more without failure
System reliability analysis through corona testing
A corona vacuum test facility for nondestructive testing of power system components was built in the Reliability and Quality Engineering Test Laboratories at the NASA Lewis Research Center. The facility was developed to simulate operating temperature and vacuum while monitoring corona discharges with residual gases. The facility is being used to test various high-voltage power system components
High temperature expansion applied to fermions near Feshbach resonance
We show that, apart from a difference in scale, all of the surprising
recently observed properties of a degenerate Fermi gas near a Feshbach
resonance persist in the high temperature Boltzmann regime. In this regime, the
Feshbach resonance is unshifted. By sweeping across the resonance, a thermal
distribution of bound states (molecules) can be reversibly generated.
Throughout this process, the interaction energy is negative and continuous. We
also show that this behavior must persist at lower temperatures unless there is
a phase transition as the temperature is lowered. We rigorously demonstrate

Parton Saturation-An Overview
The idea of partons and the utility of using light-cone gauge in QCD are
introduced. Saturation of quark and gluon distributions are discussed using
simple models and in a more general context. The Golec-Biernat W\usthoff model
and some simple phenomenology are described. A simple, but realistic, equation
for unitary, the Kovchegov equation, is discussed, and an elementary derivation

Rotational States of Magnetic Molecules
We study a magnetic molecule that exhibits spin tunneling and is free to
rotate about its anisotropy axis. Exact low-energy eigenstates of the molecule
that are superpositions of spin and rotational states are obtained. We show
that parameter determines the ground state of
the molecule. Here is the spin, is the moment of inertia, and
is the tunnel splitting. The magnetic moment of the molecule is zero
at . At the spin of the molecule localizes in one of

Detection and Mapping of Quantitative Trait Loci that Determine Responsiveness
Exposure to 70% N2O evokes a robust antinociceptive effect in C57BL/6 (B6) but not in DBA/2 (D2) inbred mice. This study was conducted to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) in the mouse genome that might determine responsiveness to N2O. Offspring from the F2 generation bred from B6 and D2 progenitors exhibited a broad range of responsiveness to N2O antinociception as determined by the acetic acid-induced abdominal constriction test. QTL analysis was then used to dissect this continuous trait distribution into component loci, and to map them to broad chromosomal regions. To this end, 24 spleens were collected from each of the following four groups: male and female F2 mice responding to 70% N2O in oxygen with 100% response (high-responders); and male and female F2 mice responding with 0% response (low-responders). Genomic DNA was extracted from the spleens and genotyped with simple sequence length polymorphism MapPairs markers. Findings were combined with findings from the earlier QTL analysis from BXD recombinant inbred mice [Brain Res 725 (1996) 23]. Combined results revealed two significant QTL that influence responsiveness to nitrous oxide on proximal chromosome 2 and distal chromosome 5, and one suggestive QTL on midchromosome 18. The chromosome 2 QTL was evident only in males. A significant interaction was found between a locus on chromosome 6 and another on chromosome 13 with a substantial effect on N2O antinociception
Vector potential versus colour charge density in low-x evolution
We reconsider the evolution equations for multigluon correlators derived in
hep-ph/9709432. We show how to derive these equations directly in terms of
vector potentials (or colour field strength) avoiding the introduction of the
concept of colour charge density in the intermediate steps. The two step
procedure of deriving the evolution of the charge density correlators followed
by the solution of classical equations for the vector potentials is shown to be
consistent with direct derivation of evolution for vector potentials. In the
process we correct some computational errors of hep-ph/9709432 and present the
corrected evolution equations which have a somewhat simpler appearance.Comment: 15 pages, 1 figure, changes made referee report, to be published in
