Dynamics of a suspension of interacting yolk-shell particles
In this work we study the self-diffusion properties of a liquid of hollow
spherical particles (shells)bearing a smaller solid sphere in their interior
(yolks). We model this system using purely repulsive hard-body interactions
between all (shell and yolk) particles, but assume the presence of a background
ideal solvent such that all the particles execute free Brownian motion between
collisions,characterized by short-time self-diffusion coefficients D0s for the
shells and D0y for the yolks. Using a softened version of these interparticle
potentials we perform Brownian dynamics simulations to determine the mean
squared displacement and intermediate scattering function of the yolk-shell
complex. These results can be understood in terms of a set of effective
Langevin equations for the N interacting shell particles, pre-averaged over the
yolks' degrees of freedom, from which an approximate self-consistent
description of the simulated self-diffusion properties can be derived. Here we
compare the theoretical and simulated results between them, and with the
results for the same system in the absence of yolks. We find that the yolks,
which have no effect on the shell-shell static structure, influence the dynamic
properties in a predictable manner, fully captured by the theory.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figur
Census of HII regions in NGC 6754 derived with MUSE: Constraints on the metal mixing scale
We present a study of the HII regions in the galaxy NGC 6754 from a two
pointing mosaic comprising 197,637 individual spectra, using Integral Field
Spectrocopy (IFS) recently acquired with the MUSE instrument during its Science
Verification program. The data cover the entire galaxy out to ~2 effective
radii (re ), sampling its morphological structures with unprecedented spatial
resolution for a wide-field IFU. A complete census of the H ii regions limited
by the atmospheric seeing conditions was derived, comprising 396 individual
ionized sources. This is one of the largest and most complete catalogue of H ii
regions with spectroscopic information in a single galaxy. We use this
catalogue to derive the radial abundance gradient in this SBb galaxy, finding a
negative gradient with a slope consistent with the characteristic value for
disk galaxies recently reported. The large number of H ii regions allow us to
estimate the typical mixing scale-length (rmix ~0.4 re ), which sets strong
constraints on the proposed mechanisms for metal mixing in disk galaxies, like
radial movements associated with bars and spiral arms, when comparing with
simulations. We found evidence for an azimuthal variation of the oxygen
abundance, that may be related with the radial migration. These results
illustrate the unique capabilities of MUSE for the study of the enrichment

Phenomenology of a three-family model with gauge symmetry SU(3)_c X SU(4)_L X U(1)_X
We study an extension of the gauge group SU(3)_c X SU(2)_L X U(1)_Y of the
standard model to the symmetry group SU(3)_c X SU(4)_L X U(1)_X (3-4-1 for
short). This extension provides an interesting attempt to answer the question
of family replication in the sense that models for the electroweak interaction
can be constructed so that anomaly cancellation is achieved by an interplay
between generations, all of them under the condition that the number of
families must be divisible by the number of colours of SU(3)_c. This method of
anomaly cancellation requires a family of quarks transforming differently from
the other two, thus leading to tree-level flavour changing neutral currents
(FCNC) transmitted by the two extra neutral gauge bosons and
predicted by the model. In a version of the 3-4-1 extension, which does not
contain particles with exotic electric charges, we study the fermion mass
spectrum and some aspects of the phenomenology of the neutral gauge boson
sector. In particular, we impose limits on the mixing angle and on the
mass scale of the corresponding physical new neutral gauge boson , and
establish a lower bound on the mass of the additional new neutral gauge boson
. For the analysis we use updated precision electroweak data at
the Z-pole from the CERN LEP and SLAC Linear Collider, and atomic parity
violation data. The mass scale of the additional new neutral gauge boson
is constrained by using updated experimental inputs from neutral meson mixing
in the analysis of the sources of FCNC in the model. The data constrain the
mixing angle to a very small value of O(0.001), and the lower bounds on
and on are found to be of O(1 TeV) and of O(7 TeV),

Dielectric susceptibility of the Coulomb-glass
We derive a microscopic expression for the dielectric susceptibility
of a Coulomb glass, which corresponds to the definition used in classical
electrodynamics, the derivative of the polarization with respect to the
electric field. The fluctuation-dissipation theorem tells us that is a
function of the thermal fluctuations of the dipole moment of the system. We
calculate numerically for three-dimensional Coulomb glasses as a
function of temperature and frequency

Resumen
Los edificios, junto al transporte suponen más de la mitad del consumo energético actual de combustible
y de la contaminación a este asociada, de difícil solución por la dispersión de los procesos de combustión
en poblaciones o carreteras. Esta distribución en la edificación de la demanda favorece el uso de energía
solar, el recurso renovable más abundante y de fácil acceso sobre la superficie terrestre, especialmente
adecuado en nuestro clima. El uso de tecnología solar requiere procesos de acumulación que garanticen
la disponibilidad del calor excesivo del verano durante las frías noches de invierno así como la iluminación
o las comunicaciones durante la noche en base a la radiación recibida en las horas de radiación solar. El
trabajo describe la posibilidad de captura térmica en la cubierta con almacenamiento selectivo en el subsuelo
capaz de satisfacer la demanda de energía para climatización de la vivienda a lo largo del año a un
coste ,muy bajo. La energía eléctrica de "alta calidad" se genera y acumulé1localmente en forma de hidrógeno
para alimentar según demanda mediante una pila de combustible. Con la tecnología actual, aún en
pleno desarrollo, el balance es claramente positivo lo que significa la posibilidad de autosuficiencia energética
para una parte considerable de las viviendas.El MEC ha financiado el desarrollo de
nuevos dispositivos de hidrógeno en el proyecto "Diseño y realización de una nueva Pila de
Combustible polimérica de bajo coste y alta eficacia" MCYT- ENE2005-09124-C04-02/ALT. y el
CSIC ha financiado la generación de hidrógeno a partir de residuos orgánicos. El P.S.E. INVISO

Aircraft icing: in-cloud measurements and sensitivity to physical parameterizations
The prediction of supercooled cloud drops in the atmosphere is a basic tool for aviation safety, owing to their contact with and instant freezing on sensitive locations of the aircraft. One of the main disadvantages for predicting atmospheric icing conditions is the acquisition of observational data. In this study, we used in‐cloud microphysics measurements taken during 10 flights of a C‐212 research aircraft under winter conditions, during which we encountered 37 regions containing supercooled liquid water. To investigate the capability of the Weather Research and Forecasting model to detect regions containing supercooled cloud drops, we propose a multiphysics ensemble approach. We used four microphysics and two planetary boundary layer schemes. The Morrison parameterization yielded superior results, whereas the planetary boundary layer schemes were essential in evaluating the presence of liquid water content. The Goddard microphysics scheme best detected the presence of ice water content but tended to underestimate liquid water content
Respuesta agronómica de diferentes cultivares tintos de vid en zona templada
Se presenta la respuesta varietal de 6 cultivares tintos de vid, con riego deficitario controlado, en zona cálida: Barbera, Graciano, Mencía, Pinot noir, Petit verdot y Tempranillo. Teniendo en cuenta que en zona cálida hay que escoger cultivares de ciclo largo, recolección tardía, capaces de madurar manteniendo alta la acidez real y total, se concluye que los más idóneos para su cultivo en zona cálida son Barbera, por su alta acidez y Petit verdot y Graciano por su larga maduración y acidez equilibrada. Tempranillo, si bien en este trabajo presenta una respuesta adecuada, para equivalente maduración sacarimétrica a las anteriores posee menor acidez e IPT. Mencía madura mejor en situaciones frescas que en zona cálid
