Tempe Wilson: An Observation-based Case Study
This observation-based case study is designed to capture the experience of a school-based evaluation process and psychological evaluation for Tempe, a black cis-gender, 4th-grade female student in a suburban area of a southeastern U.S. state. Given input from a variety of sources, this evaluation demonstrates the importance of flexibility of assessment administration, considerations for reliability, and triangulation in data interpretation for a useful and effective process (Wakeman et al., 2023). This case demonstrates how Tempe\u27s diagnoses, experiences, strengths, and needs may inform the development of an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Questions on effective evaluations, recommendations, collaborations between the team members, and future case manager decision-making are posed in the reflection questions
Quality of Feedback in Higher Education: A Review of Literature
In raising the standards for professional educators, higher educators must be prepared to provide the highest quality feedback on student performance and work products toward improved outcomes. This review of the literature examined the major findings of 70 quantitative, mixed methods, or qualitative studies found in higher education journals across a range of disciplines. Multiple recommendations and results for feedback emerged which fall into the categories described by Susan Brookhart. This review found research for each of Brookhart’s categories, with results indicating dierences between the perceptions of adherence to sound feedback practices versus the reality of implementation, the potential for innovative tool use, and a disagreement about the eectiveness of peers for providing eective feedback. Indicators for quality within the research confirmed the importance of commonly accepted standards such as positivity, specificity, timeliness, and encouraging active student participation. Additionally, trends and themes indicated a need for the consistent implementation of the feedback exchange process and flexibility to account for student input/preferences. Greater consistency toward the application of these quality indicators should be undertaken when determining the quality of higher education feedback for preservice teachers prior to undertaking summative licensure assessments

The wealth effects of targeted share repurchases
This paper examines the wealth impact of share repurchases that restrict participation to a particular sub-set of a firm's stockholders. Repurchases at a premium from insiders and small shareholders increase the wealth of non-participating stockholders and are therefore consistent with the shareholders' interest hypothesis. However, privately negotiated repurchases of single blocks from stockholders unaffiliated with the firm reduce the wealth of non-participating stockholders. In contrast to the evidence for general repurchases, no positive wealth effect offsets the significant repurchase premium paid to the selling stockholder. Indeed, the wealth loss to non-participating stockholders is significantly greater than the premium paid. This evidence is inconsistent with the shareholders' interest hypothesis and supports the hypothesis that managers in their self-interest use single block repurchases to eliminate threats to their control over the firm's resources.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/25257/1/0000700.pd
Aberrant migration and surgical removal of a heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) from the femoral artery of a cat.
A cat was evaluated for an acute-onset of right pelvic limb paresis. Thoracic radiographs revealed normal cardiac size and tortuous pulmonary arteries. Abdominal ultrasound identified a heartworm (HW) extending from the caudal abdominal aorta into the right external iliac artery and right femoral artery. The cat was HW-antigen positive. Echocardiography revealed a HW within the right branch of the main pulmonary artery and evidence of pulmonary hypertension. An agitated-saline contrast echocardiogram revealed a small right to left intracardiac shunt at the level of the atria. Surgical removal of the HW was performed with no substantial postoperative complications. There was return of blood flow and improved motor function to the limb. The cat remains mildly paretic on the affected limb with no other clinical signs

Structure and Mechanism of a Metal-Sensing Regulatory RNA
SummaryOrganisms maintain the correct balance of intracellular metals primarily through metal-sensing proteins that control transport and storage of the target ion(s). Here, we reveal the basis of metal sensing and genetic control by a metalloregulatory RNA. Our data demonstrate that a previously uncharacterized orphan riboswitch, renamed the “M-box,” is a divalent metal-sensing RNA involved in Mg2+ homeostasis. A combination of genetic, biochemical, and biophysical techniques demonstrate that Mg2+ induces a compacted tertiary architecture for M-box RNAs that regulates the accessibility of nucleotides involved in genetic control. Molecular details are provided by crystallographic structure determination of a Mg2+-bound M-box RNA. Given the distribution of this RNA element, it may constitute a common mode for bacterial metal ion regulation, and its discovery suggests the possibility of additional RNA-based metal sensors in modern and primordial organisms
Messages from a tangled web
HCI has an established history of criticising system
error messages and offering design guidelines for their
improvement. This paper continues this tradition by
exploring users’ attitudes and recovery strategies to web
error messages, examining the variety of messages
produced by popular web-sites and presenting design
guidelines for error messages. We believe this is the
first academic work on web error messages. We first
investigated users’ conceptions of error messages and
recovery strategies for a broad section of users (novice
to expert). This revealed that standard error messages
have a poor construction, which goes against most (if
not all) of the guidelines for writing effective error
messages. We then examined a range of popular
information and ecommerce sites from the US, Europe
and Australia and we offer a critique of the different
styles of dealing with errors. Finally we provide a
checklist of design considerations for use by web
designers and site managers that pay close attention to
good customer service and experience
