Marketing Tips for Small-scale, Local Honey Bee Keepers in Northwest Arkansas

    Get PDF
The objective of this thesis was to gain market information for beekeepers regarding different honey bee products and to provide information about economic feasibility when produced on a small, local scale. Since cost-of-production information about operating an apiary is widely available, the focus of this work was on gaining marketing knowledge. One of the objectives of the surveys was to develop a better sense of what potential resellers of honey bee products considered locally produced. Another objective was to determine preferences for honey bee product packaging as well as bee pollination services. Using that feedback, a marketing plan for different niche markets can be developed for part-time beekeeping operations. The survey results pertaining to local retailers and end users in Northwest Arkansas in 2016 suggested a supply radius near 100 miles and a preference for small packaging in general. Least cost supply, and at least regional brand recognition were not deemed as important as ensuring locally sourced products that can be sold at a premium. Different niche markets revealed both similar and different priorities related to these marketing aspects

The MECO experiment: A search for lepton flavor violation in muonic atoms

    Get PDF
MECO will search for direct evidence of muon and electron flavor violation in the decay of muons in Coulomb bound states via coherent recoil of the nucleus and decay electron. The expected sensitivity to the μ−N→e−+N\mu^{-} {\rm N} \to e^{-} + {\rm N} branching fraction relative to muon capture μ−N(A,Z)→νμ+N(A,Z−1)\mu^{-} {\rm N}(A,Z) \to \nu_{\mu} + {\rm N}(A,Z-1) is Rμe<5×10−17R_{\mu e} < 5\times 10^{-17} at 90% confidence level, roughly three to four orders of magnitude lower than current limits. This article provides an overview of the experiment.Comment: To appear in proceedings of NuFact'00 Workshop: Muon storage ring for a neutrino factory, May 22-26, 2000; Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, C

Observations of shallow convective clouds generated by solar heating of dark smoke plumes

    Get PDF
The SEVIRI instrument on the Meteosat Second Generation satellite with both fine spatial and temporal resolution allows to detect and follow the dynamics of fast developing meteorological events like spreading smoke plumes and the lifecycles of convective clouds. Smoke plumes have the ability to change the atmospheric heat content due to absorption and reduced reflection of solar radiation. By these means they can trigger formation of shallow convective clouds at their edge. A heavy smoke plume emerging from burning Lebanese oil tanks and spreading over adjacent deserts on 17 July 2006 has been observed as an example of such an effect. This study suggests a physical explanation of the observed convection along the edge of the smoke plume, namely the strong thermal contrast resulting from solar heating of the smoke layer

We study the gauge-fixing and symmetries (BRST-invariance and vector supersymmetry) of various six-dimensional topological models involving Abelian or non-Abelian 2-form potentials.Comment: 11 page

Impact of the Agricultural Sector on the Arkansas Economy in 2001

    Get PDF
Agriculture has historically been one of Arkansas’ primary economic sectors. Agriculture is defined as the sum of agricultural production and processing activities unless otherwise specified. Agriculture contributes to the economy through direct agricultural production and value-added processing which generates economic activity in other parts of the economy

The Effect of the Frostig Program for the Development of Visual Perception on Readiness Skills

    Get PDF
The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate what effect use of the Frostig Program for the Development of Visual Perception would have on readiness skills for kindergarten children. The results of this study would appear to have meaning for elementary school teachers, administrators and school counselors

    Image correlation and sampling study

    Get PDF
The development of analytical approaches for solving image correlation and image sampling of multispectral data is discussed. Relevant multispectral image statistics which are applicable to image correlation and sampling are identified. The general image statistics include intensity mean, variance, amplitude histogram, power spectral density function, and autocorrelation function. The translation problem associated with digital image registration and the analytical means for comparing commonly used correlation techniques are considered. General expressions for determining the reconstruction error for specific image sampling strategies are developed
