    Safety of Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in Pregnancy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

    Background/Aims: Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a technically challenging procedure rarely associated with severe postprocedure complications. Hormonal changes during pregnancy promote cholelithiasis, but there are limited clinical data available on the outcomes of ERCP in pregnant women. ERCP techniques without irradiation were recently introduced as potential alternative. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the safety of ERCP in pregnancy and to compare outcomes of radiation versus nonradiation ERCP. Materials and Methods: A systematic search of PubMed, Medline/Ovid, Web of Science, and Google Scholar through April 18th, 2018 using PRISMA and MOOSE guidelines identified 27 studies reporting the outcomes of ERCP in pregnancy. Random effects pooled event rate and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated. Heterogeneity was measured by I2, and meta-regression analysis was conducted. Adverse outcomes were divided into fetal, maternal pregnancy-related, and maternal nonpregnancy-related.     The impact of computed high b-value images on the diagnostic accuracy of DWI for prostate cancer: A receiver operating characteristics analysis.

    To evaluate the performance of computed high b value diffusion-weighted images (DWI) in prostate cancer detection. 97 consecutive patients who had undergone multiparametric MRI of the prostate followed by biopsy were reviewed. Five radiologists independently scored 138 lesions on native high b-value images (b = 1200 s/mm2), apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps, and computed high b-value images (contrast equivalent to b = 2000 s/mm2) to compare their diagnostic accuracy. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis and McNemar's test were performed to assess the relative performance of computed high b value DWI, native high b-value DWI and ADC maps. No significant difference existed in the area under the curve (AUC) for ROCs comparing B1200 (b = 1200 s/mm2) to computed B2000 (c-B2000) in 5 readers. In 4 of 5 readers c-B2000 had significantly increased sensitivity and/or decreased specificity compared to B1200 (McNemar's p < 0.05), at selected thresholds of interpretation. ADC maps were less accurate than B1200 or c-B2000 for 2 of 5 readers (P < 0.05). This study detected no consistent improvement in overall diagnostic accuracy using c-B2000, compared with B1200 images. Readers detected more cancer with c-B2000 images (increased sensitivity) but also more false positive findings (decreased specificity)

    Dissecting a wildlife disease hotspot: the impact of multiple host species, environmental transmission and seasonality in migration, breeding and mortality

    Avian influenza viruses (AIVs) have been implicated in all human influenza pandemics in recent history. Despite this, surprisingly little is known about the mechanisms underlying the maintenance and spread of these viruses in their natural bird reservoirs. Surveillance has identified an AIV ‘hotspot’ in shorebirds at Delaware Bay, in which prevalence is estimated to exceed other monitored sites by an order of magnitude. To better understand the factors that create an AIV hotspot, we developed and parametrized a mechanistic transmission model to study the simultaneous epizootiological impacts of multi-species transmission, seasonal breeding, host migration and mixed transmission routes. We scrutinized our model to examine the potential for an AIV hotspot to serve as a ‘gateway’ for the spread of novel viruses into North America. Our findings identify the conditions under which a novel influenza virus, if introduced into the system, could successfully invade and proliferate

    Skip the Alignment: Degenerate, Multiplex Primer and Probe Design Using K-mer Matching Instead of Alignments

    PriMux is a new software package for selecting multiplex compatible, degenerate primers and probes to detect diverse targets such as viruses. It requires no multiple sequence alignment, instead applying k-mer algorithms, hence it scales well for large target sets and saves user effort from curating sequences into alignable groups. PriMux has the capability to predict degenerate primers as well as probes suitable for TaqMan or other primer/probe triplet assay formats, or simply probes for microarray or other single-oligo assay formats. PriMux employs suffix array methods for efficient calculations on oligos 10-∼100 nt in length. TaqMan® primers and probes for each segment of Rift Valley fever virus were designed using PriMux, and lab testing comparing signatures designed using PriMux versus those designed using traditional methods demonstrated equivalent or better sensitivity for the PriMux-designed signatures compared to traditional signatures. In addition, we used PriMux to design TaqMan® primers and probes for unalignable or poorly alignable groups of targets: that is, all segments of Rift Valley fever virus analyzed as a single target set of 198 sequences, or all 2863 Dengue virus genomes for all four serotypes available at the time of our analysis.     Games and Play SIG: Connecting Games Research to the Broader HCI Context

    Research on games and play has been present at CHI since the first conference in 1982. The community-building efforts of many volunteers has grown the games and play community within SIGCHI into a vibrant and active group of researchers, with a dedicated conference (CHI PLAY) that publishes its full papers in the GAMES track of the ACM PACMHCI journal. However, we there are members of the larger HCI community whose research and practice intersects with games and play—in topics such as emerging technologies; VR/AR/XR; theories of motivation, experience, and personality; metaverse; livestreaming; fan, and spectator communities; accessibility; and serious games—who may never have attended a games-specific conference. The purpose of this SIG is to offer a lightweight opportunity for CHI attendees to connect with the games and play research community. Our aim is to meet as a community, and to connect with HCI researchers who have not traditionally seen their work as part of games and play for networking and bi-directional idea exchange

    Preparation of printable and biodegradable cellulose-laponite composite for electronic device application

    Printable and biodegradable printed circuit boards (PCBs) prepared by using cellulose as the continuous matrix, laponite as flame retardant filler with various weight ratio (0, 5, 10 and 20 wt% with respect to the α-cellulose quantity used to prepare the composites) and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([emim][OAc]) as the recoverable dissolution medium. Prepared cellulose-composites were subjected into physical, chemical, thermal, mechanical and biodegradation analyses to check the suitability of the cellulose-laponite composite for biodegradable electronic application. The addition of laponite into cellulose increased the degradation temperature, flame retardancy and decreased the mechanical properties of the cellulose-laponite composites. The surface nature of the cellulose composite converted from hydrophilic to hydrophobic (contact angle value increased in the range from 50° to 112°) by treating with relatively small amount of hydrophobizing agent (< 1 wt%). The conductive ink printing experiments on the composites explaining the role of hydrophobizing agent and laponite in the composites. Biodegradability of the cellulose was evaluated by enzyme treatments and derived the effect of laponite, hydrophobic agent and conductive ink
