    Proposing a Tool for Supply Chain Configuration: An Application to Customised Production

    The full implementation of collaborative production networks is crucial for companies willing to respond to consumer demand strongly focused on product customisation. This chapter proposes an approach to evaluate the performance of different Supply Chain (SC) configurations in a customised production context. The model is based on discrete-event simulation and is applied to the case of supply chain in the fashion sector to support the comparison between mass and customised production. A prototype web-based interface is also developed and proposed to facilitate the use of the model not only for experts in simulation but for any user in the SC management field

    Supply chain simulation in a Big Data context: risks and uncertainty analysis

    Due to their complex and dynamic nature, Supply Chains are prone to risks that may occur at any time and place. To tackle this problem, simulation can be used. However, such models should use Big Data technologies, in order to provide the level of data and detail contained in the data sources associated to the business processes. In this regard, this paper considered a real case of an automotive electronics Supply chain. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to propose a simulation tool, which uses real industrial data, provided by a Big Data Warehouse, and use such decision-support artifact to test different types of risks. More concretely, risks in the supply and demand end of the network are analyzed.     A comprehensive risk assessment model based on a fuzzy synthetic evaluation approach for green building projects: the case of Vietnam

    Purpose – Risks in implementing green building (GB) projects have emerged as a significant obstacle for GB development, especially in developing countries. In recent years, both academics and construction practitioners have paid considerable attention to the risks associated with GB. In this study, the authors aimed to create a comprehensive risk assessment model that considers three crucial risk features: impact level, probability of occurrence and risk manageability. Design/methodology/approach – In the research, authors adopted the mean scoring and fuzzy synthetic evaluation method to assess GB risks. Based on expert assessments, this model can determine the significance of risk factors, risk groups and overall risk. Notably, this research applied the proposed model to assess GB risks in Vietnam by surveying 58 GB experienced professionals. Findings – The findings revealed that GB risks are relatively high in Vietnam, implying that risk management is essential for GB projects to succeed. The results also showed that “lack of experience of GB designers” is the most critical factor, and “human resources risk in the design phase” is the top crucial risk group. Originality/value – This study contributes a novel and practical model to help practitioners assess risks in GB projects. In addition, this research offers detailed GB risk evaluations in Vietnam and thus could be a valuable reference for construction practitioners and future studies

    Supply chain configuration towards customization: A comparison between small and large series production

    This paper describes an approach to evaluate how a supply network is ready for customization: starting from historical data collected from the focal firm, a configuration model of supply chain based on discrete-event simulation is created to analyse the network structure of a company and to evaluate how it can perform if the production switch from large to small series production. The simulation approach relies on experimentation through executable models which allows to create what-if scenarios. This type of approach offers several advantages: it offers a realistic observation of the supply chain behaviour and allow an analysis of the supply chain dynamics. It provides an observation of the behaviour of the network over time, to understand the organizational decision-making process, analyse the interdependencies between the actors of the chain and analyse the consistency between the coordination modes and the decisional policies.
