K-theory for ring C*-algebras - the case of number fields with higher roots of unity

We compute K-theory for ring C*-algebras in the case of higher roots of unity and thereby completely determine the K-theory for ring C*-algebras attached to rings of integers in arbitrary number fields.Comment: 26 pages, final version, accepted for publication in the Journal of Topology and Analysi

Free field realization of current superalgebra gl(m∣n)kgl(m|n)_k

    Get PDF
We construct the free field representation of the affine currents, energy-momentum tensor and screening currents of the first kind of the current superalgebra gl(m∣n)kgl(m|n)_k uniformly for m=nm=n and m≠nm\neq n. The energy-momentum tensor is given by a linear combination of two Sugawara tensors associated with the two independent quadratic Casimir elements of gl(m∣n)gl(m|n).Comment: Latex file, 15 page

Ligand enhanced upconversion of near-infrared photons with nanocrystal light absorbers.

We designed and synthesized a tetracene derivative 4-(tetracen-5-yl)benzoic acid (CPT) as a transmitter ligand used in PbS/PbSe nanocrystal (NC) sensitized upconversion of near infrared (NIR) photons. Under optimal conditions, comparing CPT functionalized NCs with unfunctionalized NCs as sensitizers, the upconversion quantum yield (QY) was enhanced 81 times for 2.9 nm PbS NCs from 0.021% to 1.7%, and 11 times for 2.5 nm PbSe NCs from 0.20% to 2.1%. The surface density of CPT controls the solubility of functionalized NCs and the upconversion QY. By increasing the concentration of CPT in the ligand exchange solution, the number of CPT ligand per NC increases. The upconversion QY is maximized at a transmitter density of 1.2 nm-2 for 2.9 nm PbS, and 0.32 nm-2 for 2.5 nm PbSe. Additional transmitter ligands inhibit photon upconversion due to triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA) between two neighboring CPT molecules on the NC surface. 2.1% is the highest reported QY for TTA-based photon upconversion in the NIR with the use of earth-abundant materials

The spacetime structure of MOND with Tully-Fisher relation and Lorentz invariance violation

It is believed that the modification of Newtonian dynamics (MOND) is possible alternate for dark matter hypothesis. Although Bekenstein's TeVeS supplies a relativistic version of MOND, one may still wish a more concise covariant formulism of MOND. In this paper, within covariant geometrical framwork, we present another version of MOND. We show the spacetime structure of MOND with properties of Tully-Fisher relation and Lorentz invariance violation.Comment: 6 pages. arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1111.1383 and arXiv:1108.344

Checkerboard charge density wave and pseudogap in high-TcT_{c} cuprates

We consider the scenario where a 4-lattice constant, rotationally symmetric charge density wave (CDW) is present in the underdoped cuprates. We prove a theorem that puts strong constraint on the possible form factor of such a CDW. We demonstrate, within mean-field theory, that a particular form factor within the allowed class describes the angle-resolved photoemission and scan tunneling spectroscopy well. We conjecture that the ``large pseudogap'' in cuprates is the consequence of this type of charge density wave.Comment: We add a new section II on the symmetry property of the checkerboard CD

Role of the conserved aspartate and phenylalanine residues in prokaryotic and mitochondrial elongation factor Ts in guanine nucleotide exchange

    Get PDF
AbstractThe guanine nucleotide exchange reaction catalyzed by elongation factor Ts is proposed to arise from the intrusion of the side chains of D80 and F81 near the Mg2+ binding site in EF-Tu. D80A and F81A mutants of E. coli EF-Ts were 2–3-fold less active in promoting GDP exchange with E. coli EF-Tu while the D80AF81A mutant was nearly 10-fold less active. The D84 and F85 mutants of EF-Tsmt were 5–10-fold less active in stimulating the activity of EF-Tumt. The double mutation completely abolished the activity of EF-Tsmt
