    Berkembangnya industri pembangunan sekarang ini menyebabkan naiknya permintaan konsumen terhadap batu granit sebagai bahan galian industri. Oleh karena itu produsen batu granit terus menerus meningkatkan produksinya. PT. Trimegah Perkasa Utama sebagai produsen terbesar batu granit di Kepulauan Karimun menargetkan produksi sebesar 300.000 ton/bulan batu granit menggunakan 2 unit alat gali-muat dan 8 unit alat angkut dengan total waktu 20 jam pada 2 shift kerja. Dari hasil pengamatan, didapatkan jumlah produksi sebesar 222.897 ton/bulan dengan waktu efektif kerja sebesar 13,96 jam/hari, sedangkan target produksi yang telah ditetapkan oleh Perusahaan sebesar 300.000 ton/bulan. Oleh karena itu perlu dilakukan evaluasi jumlah alat mekanis yang digunakan untuk memproduksi batu granit dan mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi efektifitas kerja. Hasil perhitungan produktivitas setelah dilakukan upaya peningkatan waktu kerja sebesar 15,96 jam/hari dan penambahan alat sebanyak 1 unit alat gali-muat dan 2 unit alat angkut diperoleh produktivitas sebesar 322.294 ton/bulan batu granit

    AGN Black Hole Masses and Bolometric Luminosities

    Black hole mass, along with mass accretion rate, is a fundamental property of active galactic nuclei. Black hole mass sets an approximate upper limit to AGN energetics via the Eddington limit. We collect and compare all AGN black hole mass estimates from the literature; these 177 masses are mostly based on the virial assumption for the broad emission lines, with the broad-line region size determined from either reverberation mapping or optical luminosity. We introduce 200 additional black hole mass estimates based on properties of the host galaxy bulges, using either the observed stellar velocity dispersion or using the fundamental plane relation to infer σ\sigma; these methods assume that AGN hosts are normal galaxies. We compare 36 cases for which black hole mass has been generated by different methods and find, for individual objects, a scatter as high as a couple of orders of magnitude. The less direct the method, the larger the discrepancy with other estimates, probably due to the large scatter in the underlying correlations assumed. Using published fluxes, we calculate bolometric luminosities for 234 AGNs and investigate the relation between black hole mass and luminosity. In contrast to other studies, we find no significant correlation of black hole mass with luminosity, other than those induced by circular reasoning in the estimation of black hole mass. The Eddington limit defines an approximate upper envelope to the distribution of luminosities, but the lower envelope depends entirely on the sample of AGN included.     The UV Continuum of Quasars: Models and SDSS Spectral Slopes

    We measure long (2200-4000 ang) and short (1450-2200 ang) wavelength spectral slopes \alpha (F_\nu proportional to \nu^\alpha) for quasar spectra from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. The long and short wavelength slopes are computed from 3646 and 2706 quasars with redshifts in the z=0.76-1.26 and z=1.67-2.07 ranges, respectively. We calculate mean slopes after binning the data by monochromatic luminosity at 2200 ang and virial mass estimates based on measurements of the MgII line width and 3000 ang continuum luminosity. We find little evidence for mass dependent variations in the mean slopes, but a significant luminosity dependent trend in the near UV spectral slopes is observed with larger (bluer) slopes at higher luminosities. The far UV slopes show no clear variation with luminosity and are generally lower (redder) than the near UV slopes at comparable luminosities, suggesting a slightly concave quasar continuum shape. We compare these results with Monte Carlo distributions of slopes computed from models of thin accretion disks, accounting for uncertainties in the mass estimates. The model slopes produce mass dependent trends which are larger than observed, though this conclusion is sensitive to the assumed uncertainties in the mass estimates. The model slopes are also generally bluer than observed, and we argue that reddening by dust intrinsic to the source or host galaxy may account for much of the discrepancy.Comment: To be published in ApJ, 18 pages, 10 figure

    Lingulodinium machaerophorum expansion over the last centuries in the Caspian Sea reflects global warming

This work is distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License.We analysed dinoflagellate cyst assemblages in four short sediment cores, two of them dated by radionuclides, taken in the south basin of the Caspian Sea. The interpretation of the four sequences is supported by a collection of 27 lagoonal or marine surface sediment samples. A sharp increase in the biomass of the dinocyst occurs after 1967, especially owing to Lingulodinium machaerophorum. Considering nine other cores covering parts or the whole of Holocene, this species started to develop in the Caspian Sea only during the last three millennia. By analysing instrumental data and collating existing reconstructions of sea level changes over the last few millennia, we show that the main forcing of the increase of L. machaerophorum percentages and of the recent dinocyst abundance is global climate change, especially sea surface temperature increase. Sea level fluctuations likely have a minor impact. We argue that the Caspian Sea has entered the Anthropocene

    No significant association of type 2 diabetes-related genetic risk scores with glycated haemoglobin levels after initiating metformin or sulphonylurea derivatives

    AIM: To explore the added value of diabetes-related genetic risk scores (GRSs) to readily available clinical variables in the prediction of glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) levels after initiation of glucose-regulating drugs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a cohort study in people with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) from the Groningen Initiative to Analyse Type 2 Diabetes Treatment (GIANTT) database who initiated metformin (MET) or sulphonylurea derivatives (SUs) and for whom blood samples were genotyped. The primary outcome was HbA1c level at 6 months, adjusted for baseline HbA1c. GRSs were based on single nucleotide polymorphisms linked to insulin sensitivity, ÎČ-cell activity, and T2DM risk in general. Associations were analysed using multiple linear regression to assess whether adding the GRSs increased the explained variance in a prediction model that included age, gender, diabetes duration and cardio-metabolic biomarkers. RESULTS: We included 282 patients initiating MET and 89 patients initiating SUs. In the MET prediction model, diabetes duration of >3 months when starting MET was associated with 2.7-mmol/mol higher HbA1c level. For SUs, no significant clinical predictors were identified. Addition of the GRS linked to insulin sensitivity (for MET), ÎČ-cell activity (for SUs) and T2DM risk (for both) to the models did not improve the explained variance significantly (22% without vs. 22% with GRS) for the MET and (14% without vs. 14% with GRS) for the SUs model, respectively. CONCLUSION: This study did not indicate a significant effect of GRS related to T2DM in general or to the drugs' mechanism of action for prediction of inter-individual HbA1c variability in the short term after initiation of MET or SU therapy

    Black Hole Masses and Host Galaxy Evolution of Radio-loud Active Galactic Nuclei

    We report stellar velocity dispersion measurements for a sample of 28 AGN host galaxies including our previous work. Using the mass-dispersion (M∙−σM_{\bullet}-\sigma) and the fundamental plane relations, we estimate the black hole mass for a sample of 66 BL Lac objects and investigate the role of black hole mass in the energetics of BL Lac objects. The black hole mass range for different BL Lac spectral types is similar, 107<M∙<4×10910^{7} < M_{\bullet} < 4 \times 10^{9}. Neither X-ray nor radio luminosity correlates with black hole mass. Low-frequency-peaked BL Lac objects have higher Eddington ratios on average, because of either more beaming or higher intrinsic power. For the black hole mass range 3×107<M∙<1093 \times 10^{7} < M_{\bullet} < 10^{9}, the radio luminosity of BL Lac objects and flat-spectrum radio quasars spans over 4 orders of magnitude, with BL Lac objects being low-power AGNs. We also investigate the evolution of host galaxies for 39 AGNs out to z≈0.5z \approx 0.5 with measuredstellar velocity dispersions. Comparing the mass-to-light ratio evolution in the observed frame with population synthesis models, we find that single burst star formation models with zform=1.4−0.2+0.9z_{form} = 1.4^{+0.9}_{-0.2} are consistent with the observations. From our zform=1.4z_{form}=1.4 model, we estimated the intrinsic mass-to-light ratio evolution in the Cousins RR band, Δlog(M/L)/Δz=−0.502±0.08\Delta log (M/L)/ \Delta z = -0.502 \pm 0.08, consistent with that of normal early type galaxies.Comment: ApJ accepted, 22 pages, 11 figure

    Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems (MEMS) and Fluid Flows

    The micromachining technology that emerged in the late 1980s can provide micron-sized sensors and actuators. These micro transducers are able to be integrated with signal conditioning and processing circuitry to form micro-electro-mechanical-systems (MEMS) that can perform real-time distributed control. This capability opens up a new territory for flow control research. On the other hand, surface effects dominate the fluid flowing through these miniature mechanical devices because of the large surface-to-volume ratio in micron-scale configurations. We need to reexamine the surface forces in the momentum equation. Owing to their smallness, gas flows experience large Knudsen numbers, and therefore boundary conditions need to be modified. Besides being an enabling technology, MEMS also provide many challenges for fundamental flow-science research

    Identification of Dutch children diagnosed with atopic diseases using prescription data:a validation study

    The aim of this study is to validate medication proxies for the identification of children diagnosed with atopic disorders that can be applied in various types of epidemiological research. Records of 7439 children, aged between 0 and 10 years, in the period 2001 until 2010, were retrieved from the Registration Network Groningen database, a general practitioners database in the north-eastern part of the Netherlands. The sensitivity and positive predictive value (PPV) of 22 medication proxies for the identification of children diagnosed with atopic disorders (asthma, atopic dermatitis, and allergic rhinitis) were computed using the registered diagnoses as gold standards. In addition, different capture periods (1 year, half year, and length of study period) for the detection of prescriptions were tested for all the medication proxies. The highest PPV (0.84, 95 % CI 0.81-0.87) in combination with a sufficient sensitivity value (0.54, 95 % CI 0.50-0.57) for the identification of children diagnosed with asthma was yielded for the medication proxy, a parts per thousand yen2 prescriptions for anti-asthma medication within 1 year, including 1 inhaled steroid. PPV and sensitivity were even higher in the age group 6-10 years. The proxies designed for the identification of children diagnosed with atopic dermatitis and allergic rhinitis yielded only high PPVs (a parts per thousand yen0.75) in combination with low sensitivity values (a parts per thousand currency sign0.22). Altering the capture period for the detection of prescriptions to half a year or the length of the study period only affected sensitivity values. Children diagnosed with asthma can be identified reliably with a range of medication proxies. The use of prescription data for the identification of children diagnosed with atopic dermatitis and allergic rhinitis is questionable
