Benefits and Difficulties of the National Service Training Program in Rizal Technological University

This research focused on the benefits derived by the RTU students from this training program and the difficulties observed in its implementation particularly, during community immersion and employment or application of the classroom lectures and theories learned by the student-implementers. Results showed that the benefits derived from the program were topped by enhancement of skills on basic leadership with emphases on the ability to listen and ability to communicate which were rated very important and very much benefited among other training aspects of the program and render them as indispensable attributes of a good leader. Results also revealed that students are aware of the importance of physical, mental and social health as well as the observance of proper hygiene for overall sense of well-being. Although recreation is one aspect that the respondents find important, appreciation of it underscores the need to have more time for assignments and projects as most of the respondents are enrolled in their respective courses with 29 units, thereby rendering them unable to appreciate the perks of involving themselves into various recreational activities.Concern for proper management of environmental resources is tantamount to knowing the importance of environmental cleanliness just as also being aware of the observance of proper hygiene (for personal well-being). Values formation highlights understanding of the 4Ms of a good citizen and practice of modern Filipino values creates a clear picture that the benefits derived from the program holistically inculcate preparedness of the students for civic services. Difficulties in the implementation revealed provision of materials and equipment and lack of budgetary allocation top billed in the results of this study. These aspects rendered full implementation weak as students and faculty involved in the community immersion have to rely on their own resources, in addition to the indifference and passivity of the local government officials wherein implementers face risk as they are most times not appreciated. It is recommended that RTU prime movers of NSTP-CWTS should look into the process for proper coordination with the local government officials so much so that both parties benefit from the implementation of the program and allocate sufficient budget for the success of the program as mandated.   Keywords: civic welfare, nation building, national security, proper hygiene, values formatio

TASEPy: a Python-based package to iteratively solve the inhomogeneous exclusion process

The totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) is a paradigmatic lattice model for one-dimensional particle transport subject to excluded-volume interactions. Solving the inhomogeneous TASEP in which particles' hopping rates vary across the lattice is a long-standing problem. In recent years, a power series approximation (PSA) has been developed to tackle this problem, however no computer algorithm currently exists that implements this approximation. This paper addresses this issue by providing a Python-based package TASEPy that finds the steady state solution of the inhomogeneous TASEP for any set of hopping rates using the PSA truncated at a user-defined order.Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures, submission to SciPos

Evaluation of graduating students of the impact of graduate school education and services in Rizal Technological University

The students are the reasons for the establishment of learning institutions which are the key factors to quality education. At present, the mission of the RTU-GS is to produce world-class professionals and leaders to meet the multifarious expectations and needs of society. Since 1977 up to presents, no one has ever conducted a research on graduate students' assessment of the Graduate School and its student services. It is in this end that the researchers brought about an exit interview to Graduate School graduating students.This study used the causal comparative design and had 80 respondents representing the RTU graduating students' population for school year 2012-2013. The respondents were described as to gender, age, GS course and number of year of degree completion.From the salient findings of the study, the researchers concluded that the GS graduating students are very satisfied with the personal impact of education, the development of their professional skill, and the personnel and various offices. The GS students suggest the fixed format on thesis writing, special lanes or windows for business transaction and the maintenance of good interpersonal relationship between school personnel and students. The overall rating of the GS students of the education is very satisfactory. Finally, there are significant differences in the assessment of GS students by personnel and offices

Based on the findings, the researchers recommended that: the school administrators need to allocate adequate budget for materials and equipment; periodic faculty development trainings and; to look into the passive attitude of the local officials to ensure that implementation NSTP projects will benefit both clients and implementers

Produção, qualidade e estado nutricional de meloeiro cultivado em Paraipaba-CE utilizando condicionador de solo sob diferentes lâminas de água.

Cultivou-se o meloeiro híbrido amarelo Gold Mine com objetivo de avaliar o efeito de um polímero hidrorretentor de umidade em diferentes lâminas de irrigação por gotejamento. Foram conduzidos 2 experimentos no campo, adotando-se um delineamento experimental em blocos ao acaso, com 3 repetições, em esquema fatorial com 4 doses do produto e 3 lâminas de irrigação. Foram testadas as doses do produto, aplicados no sulco de plantio: testemunha, 12,5, 25,0 e 50 kg ha-1 e testemunha, 75, 150 e 300 kg ha-1, para o 1º e 2º experimentos, respectivamente. As lâminas de reposição de 100, 75 e 50% do total foram estabelecidas a partir da ETP diária e do Kc para cada fase de desenvolvimento do meloeiro. Houve um tratamento extra no segundo experimento com 10% da lâmina de reposição fornecida com intervalos de 1 dia. Não houve efeito significativo das doses do polímero sobre os atributos avaliados em ambos experimentos. Os resultados do 1º experimento mostraram que, com a diminuição da lâmina de água, não se obteve alterações significativas no peso de frutos comercializáveis, porém o número de frutos aumentou significativamente. No 2º experimento, observou-se que, com a diminuição da lâmina de água, ocorreu uma menor produção de frutos, porém os frutos eram de menor tamanho e com maiores valores de Brix (mais indicados para exportação).
