    Regulatory Framework for Renewable Energy Sources in Ecuador Case Study Province of Manabi

    The purpose of the research is to expose the nature that, in matters of law and social policy, justifies promoting the elaboration and adoption of a regulatory framework that favors the use of renewable energy sources, for the generation of electricity through case analysis in the Province of Manabí. For the accomplishment of the research study has taken into account a brief theoretical analysis on the fundamentals of the regulatory doctrine, where it exposes the conceptual framework of the law and its necessity for the good development of the social relations that derive from the use of the Renewable sources of energy. A study was carried out of the specific regulatory work carried out at the International level, in order to promote the adequate use of renewable energies, as well as a national study presenting an initial vision for the study and establishment of a specific regulatory framework for the case study of the province of Manabí, as well as a group of policies and support measures that could be adopted to promote the integrated use of renewable energy sources and their contribution to the national energy matrix

    Natural conservation of guinea pig (Cavia porcellus) meat vacuum packed: Oregano essential oil effect on the physicochemical, microbiological and sensory characteristics

    Guinea pig meat is high in protein and low in fat, representing an attractive option for human nutrition. In addition, its sensory characteristics are making this product more appreciated in both internal and external markets. However, it is a highly perishable product, for which it is important to look for products and technologies that allow it to preserve its quality. Oregano essential oil is a natural product that presents antimicrobial and antioxidant properties that can use on the preservation of meat. Thus, the objective of this work was to study the effect of the concentration of oregano essential oil (0.5% and 1%) and storage time (0, 35 and 70 days) at -10 °C, on physicochemical, microbiological and sensory characteristics of guinea pig meat vacuum packed. For this was used guinea pigs of Peru race with 3 months of age-old and weight range between 600 and 700 g. Oregano essential oil at 0.5 and 1% was dissolved in a saline solution at 2%, next add to surface internal and external of meat after this was packing vacuum in PE pouches and stored at -10 °C until 35 and 70 days. At each storing time was evaluated physicochemical, microbiological and sensory characteristics. The best results in the majority of the characteristics were obtained to 0.5% oregano essential oil concentration and 70 days of storage, in this condition the characteristics were pH = 6.11 ± 0.05; moisture (%) = 71.6 ± 0.36; ΔEi = 3.74 ± 0.77; ΔEe = 8.30 ± 0.55; PBC = 99 ± 4 cfu/g and; texture, odor, internal and external color and, appearance acceptable

    A PROGRAM EVALUATION OF WHAT FACTORS INFLUENCE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF DISCIPLINE AS IT RELATES TO A LOW PERFORMING ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL IN SOUTHEASTERN NORTH CAROLINA

    The purpose of this study is to identify what factors influence the implementation of discipline as it relates to a low performing alternative school in Southeastern North Carolina. The following topics and subtopics will be addressed in this research: at-risk, alternative learning programs/schools, high school completion, seat time, virtual learning, approaches to course credits, attendance/absences, suspension, dropouts, summary and findings, credit by mastery, results and recommendations and conclusion. The researcher addressed the following research question: What factors influence the implementation of discipline at the alternative school in Southeast North Carolina? A program evaluation with descriptive statistics was used as the methodology. Both quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques were used to gain insight into academic alternative school that serves non-traditional students. The intent of the research was to identify the factors that influence the implementation of discipline. Qualitative research encompassed surveys and an open-ended structural questionnaire were utilized to conduct this study. Quantitative research included descriptive statistics and compilation of the data collected from the survey results. Students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators participated in the study. Key factors that were identified in order to improve the implementation of discipline subsequently positively impacting academic achievement in the school in Southeastern North Carolina were: establishing a clear mission, creating a positive culture and climate, instituting a coherent discipline model, increasing parent and community involvement, recruiting and retaining highly qualified teachers, and providing targeted professional development

    A mathematical model quantifies proliferation and motility effects of TGF--β\beta on cancer cells

    Transforming growth factor (TGF) β\beta is known to have properties of both a tumor suppressor and a tumor promoter. While it inhibits cell proliferation, it also increases cell motility and decreases cell--cell adhesion. Coupling mathematical modeling and experiments, we investigate the growth and motility of oncogene--expressing human mammary epithelial cells under exposure to TGF--β\beta. We use a version of the well--known Fisher--Kolmogorov equation, and prescribe a procedure for its parametrization. We quantify the simultaneous effects of TGF--β\beta to increase the tendency of individual cells and cell clusters to move randomly and to decrease overall population growth. We demonstrate that in experiments with TGF--β\beta treated cells \textit{in vitro}, TGF--β\beta increases cell motility by a factor of 2 and decreases cell proliferation by a factor of 1/2 in comparison with untreated cells.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures; to appear in Computational and Mathematical Methods in Medicin

    A reflected impedance estimation technique for inductive power transfer

    This paper proposes a technique to estimate the equivalent reflected impedance on the transmit side of an inductive power transfer (IPT) system, produced by an inductively coupled load. This technique consists of analysing changes in the drain voltage waveform of the switching devices to estimate the reflected impedance, and hence not require feedback information from the receive side or the coupling between the coils. The correlation between the drain voltage waveform and the reflected impedance is done by training a model with machine learning techniques. The proposed impedance estimation method is demonstrated using circuit simulations and is verified experimentally, with an IPT transmitter driven by a load independent Class EF inverter operating at 13.56 MHz. The IPT receiver consists of an ac-load which allows changes in the residual reactance. The model trained from experimental data is capable of estimating the equivalent reflected impedance with an accuracy (coefficient of determination) of 0.9899 for the real part and 0.9743 for the imaginary part
