What can be considered fair marketing in the fashion industry?: Building a green and fair consumer rating scheme for garment brands

The object of this paper is to tackle the issues that are linked to the unsustainability of today’s garment industry. The externalities that arise from this industry –that are known to harm the environment and its inhabitants– are largely talked about today. Whether it be by society, non-governmental organisations, regulatory bodies or companies involved in these destructive practices. Even though a lot is being said on the matter, and that a lot of work is in progress, not many actions to resolve the issues have yet been established. However it may seem, the amount of actions companies claim to be operating, to tackle these issues, are not always as valuable as they appear to be. This is the main issue that is covered throughout this thesis. “What can be considered fair marketing in the fashion industry?”. By coming up with a way of determining the true purpose of a garment brand’s practices, anyone may now challenge the beliefs they have towards a company. The tool discloses a company’s true engagement towards more sustainable operations and is able to establish whether companies are as trustworthy as they claim to be or whether they are misleading the public. Results have shown the reliability of the tool and considerable suggestions have been expressed for the development of the solution. Providing a digital prototype of the created tool would be a meaningful way of promoting it. This is a solution that could, imaginably, become a mobile application, accessible to consumers all around the world. This tool is considered as a helping hand to raise people’s awareness on the true nature of brands. It is also suggested that giving an opportunity to consumers to raise their own awareness might be a good way to promote change. Endorsing third-party’s points of view is a good start, but reaching their own reasoning and feeling about a matter can be even more valuable

Genotype by environment interaction for 450-day weight of Nelore cattle analyzed by reaction norm models

Genotype by environment interactions (GEI) have attracted increasing attention in tropical breeding programs because of the variety of production systems involved. In this work, we assessed GEI in 450-day adjusted weight (W450) Nelore cattle from 366 Brazilian herds by comparing traditional univariate single-environment model analysis (UM) and random regression first order reaction norm models for six environmental variables: standard deviations of herd-year (RRMw) and herd-year-season-management (RRMw-m) groups for mean W450, standard deviations of herd-year (RRMg) and herd-year-season-management (RRMg-m) groups adjusted for 365-450 days weight gain (G450) averages, and two iterative algorithms using herd-year-season-management group solution estimates from a first RRMw-m and RRMg-m analysis (RRMITw-m and RRMITg-m, respectively). The RRM results showed similar tendencies in the variance components and heritability estimates along environmental gradient. Some of the variation among RRM estimates may have been related to the precision of the predictor and to correlations between environmental variables and the likely components of the weight trait. GEI, which was assessed by estimating the genetic correlation surfaces, had values < 0.5 between extreme environments in all models. Regression analyses showed that the correlation between the expected progeny differences for UM and the corresponding differences estimated by RRM was higher in intermediate and favorable environments than in unfavorable environments (p < 0.0001)

This study analyzes the structuring of the Health Care Network in the health regions of the state of Mato Grosso, considering the actions planned in the management instruments of the State government and the State Department of Health (SES), in the years of 2012 to 2017, in accordance with the guidelines of Ordinance MS/GM No 4.279, of December 30, 2010, which guides the process of conformation of Health Care Networks within the scope of the Brazilian National Health System (SUS). This is a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive study, of documentary type, which analyzed the public documents related to government planning on the specificity of the health sector, which includes the Pluriannual Plan, the State Health Plan and the Strategic Plan of the SES. The findings of the study show that, although some actions/activities related to the guidelines of the Ordinance were included in the researched documents, they were not yet sufficient for establishing a quality regionalized care network and for strengthening the Primary Health Care (PHC) with the capacity to coordinate care and order the network in the state of Mato Grosso
