Synthesis and physical properties of LiBC intermetallics

Polycrystalline samples of LiBC compounds, which were predicted as possible candidate for high-Tc superconductivity, have been synthesised by a flux method and investigated by means of electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction patterns showed a plate-like morphology and a single-phase nature of LiBC samples for starting composition of Li1.25BC (flux composition). The lattice constants a, c display a systematic variation with x and has maximum volume of the hexagonal unit cell at x = 1.25. Electrical resistivity measurements revealed an extrinsic semi-conducting behaviour of the single-phase LiBC with an activation energy of 18 meV and a maximum specific resistivity of 2.5 Wcm at 300 K. In contrast to the theoretical prediction of high Tc, no superconducting features were detected down to 2 K both, by measurements of electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility.Comment: 17 pages, 6 figure

German S3 guideline "actinic keratosis and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma" – long version of the update 2023

    Get PDF
Actinic keratosis (AK) are common lesions in light-skinned individuals that can potentially progress to cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC). Both conditions may be associated with significant morbidity and constitute a major disease burden, especially among the elderly. To establish an evidence-based framework for clinical decision making, the guideline “actinic keratosis and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma” was updated and expanded by the topics cutanepus squamous cell carcinoma in situ (Bowen’s disease) and actinic cheilitis. This guideline was developed at the highest evidence level (S3) and is aimed at dermatologists, general practitioners, ear nose and throat specialists, surgeons, oncologists, radiologists and radiation oncologists in hospitals and office-based settings, as well as other medical specialties, policy makers and insurance funds involved in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with AK and cSCC

On Ranking Peers in Semantic Overlay Networks

Knowledge management solutions relying on central repositories sometimes have not met expectations, since users often create knowledge ad-hoc using their individual vocabulary and using their own individual IT infrastructure (e.g., their laptop). The introduction of the peer-to-peer paradigm to knowledge management is currently seen as a promising technology to overcome this challenge

Community Based Ranking in Peer-to-Peer Networks

    No full text
We address the problem of efficiently ranking the best peers w.r.t. a query with multiple, equally weighted predicates -- conjunctive queries -- in shortcut overlay networks. This problem occurs when routing queries in unstructured peer-to-peer networks, such as in peer-to-peer information retrieval applications

How to model Semantic Peer-to-Peer Overlays?

    No full text
Abstract: Simulation studies are frequently used to evaluate new semantic peer-topeer searching techniques. However, one major problem is the lack of a common evaluation standard and of common data sets. Therefore, comparing results and routing approaches from different research groups often is not possible. Based on our recent experiments and simulations we present a common model, evaluation metrics, and data sets for semantic peer-to-peer networks. Ideally, we like to encourage the community to work towards a common evaluation standard.

Semantic Methods for P2P Query Routing

Abstract. Knowledge sharing in a virtual organization requires a knowledge life cycle including knowledge provisioning, terminology alignment, determination of resource location, query routing, and query answering. In this talk we focus on the issue of determining a relevant resource in a completely decentralized setting such as necessitated by peer-to-peer knowledge management in virtual organizations. Requirements for this task include, e.g., full autonomy of peers as well as full control over own resources and therefore preclude prominent resource location and query routing schemes such as distributed hash tables. In order to tackle given requirements we use a resource location and query routing approach that exploits social metaphors of topical experts and experts ’ experts as well as semantic similarity of queries and information sources. The approach has been fully tested in simulation runs and partially implemented in the system Bibste
