A Detailed Monte-Carlo Simulation for the Belle TOF System
We have developed a detailed Monte Carlo simulation program for the Belle TOF
system. Based on GEANT simulation, it takes account of all physics processes in
the TOF scintillation counters and readout electronics. The simulation
reproduces very well the performance of the Belle TOF system, including the
dE/dx response, the time walk effect, the time resolution, and the hit
efficiency due to beam background. In this report, we will describe the Belle
TOF simulation program in detail.Comment: To be submitted to NI
Tachyon Kinks in Boundary String Field Theory
We study tachyon kinks with and without electromagnetic fields in the context
of boundary string field theory. For the case of pure tachyon only an array of
kink-antikink is obtained. In the presence of electromagnetic coupling, all
possible static codimension-one soliton solutions such as array of
kink-antikink, single topological BPS kink, bounce, half kink, as well as
nonBPS topological kink are found, and their properties including the
interpretation as branes are analyzed in detail. Spectrum of the obtained kinks
coincides with that of Dirac-Born-Infeld type effective theory.Comment: LaTex, 29 pages, 17 Figure
Giant magnetoresistance of multiwall carbon nanotubes: modeling the tube/ferromagnetic-electrode burying contact
We report on the giant magnetoresistance (GMR) of multiwall carbon nanotubes
with ultra small diameters. In particular, we consider the effect of the
inter-wall interactions and the lead/nanotube coupling. Comparative studies
have been performed to show that in the case when all walls are well coupled to
the electrodes, the so-called inverse GMR can appear. The tendency towards a
negative GMR depends on the inter-wall interaction and on the nanotube le ngth.
If, however, the inner nanotubes are out of contact with one of the electrodes,
the GMR remains positive even for relatively strong inter-wall interactions
regardless of the outer nanotube length. These results shed additional light on
recently reported experimental data, where an inverse GMR was found in some
multiwall carbon nanotube samples.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
A comment on -branes of () string theory
We argue that in ()d string theory the existence of NS-NS type -brane
with negative tension is essential to obtain background geometry or on the transverse dimensions, and the usual codimension-2 brane
solutions with these background geometries already contain the negative tension
NS-brane implicity in their ansatz. Such an argument leads us, in the context
of brane world scenarios, to a conjecture that true background -brane
immanent in our spacetime may perhaps be NS-NS type brane, rather than D-brane.Comment: 16 pages. Version to appear in JHE
Measurements of exclusive B_s^0 decays at the Y(5S) resonance
Several exclusive decays are studied using a 1.86 fb-1 data sample
collected at the Y(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric
energy e^+ e^- collider. In the decay mode we find 10
candidates and measure the corresponding branching fraction. Combining
the B_s^0 -> D_s^{(*)-} \pi^+, B_s^0 -> D_s^{(*)-} \rho^+, B_s^0 -> J/\psi \phi
and B_s^0 -> J/\psi \eta decay modes, a significant signal is observed.
The ratio \sigma (e^+ e^- -> B_s^* \bar{B}_s^*) / \sigma (e^+ e^- -> B_s^{(*)}
\bar{B}_s^{(*)}) = (93^{+7}_{-9} \pm 1)% is obtained at the Y(5S) energy,
indicating that meson production proceeds predominantly through the
creation of pairs. The and meson masses are
measured to be M(B_s^0)=(5370 \pm 1 \pm 3)MeV/c^2 and M(B_s^*)=(5418 \pm 1 \pm
3)MeV/c^2. Upper limits on the B_s^0 -> \gamma \gamma, B_s^0 -> \phi \gamma,
B_s^0 -> K^+ K^- and B_s^0 -> D_s^{(*)+} D_s^{(*)-} branching fractions are
also reported.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, published in Phys. Rev. D76, 012002 (2007
Measurement of the near-threshold cross section using initial-state radiation
We report measurements of the exclusive cross section for , where or , in the center-of-mass energy range from the threshold to with initial-state radiation. The
analysis is based on a data sample collected with the Belle detector with an
integrated luminosity of 673 .Comment: Presented at EPS07 and LP07 conferences, published in PRD(RC
Measurement of K^+K^- production in two-photon collisions in the resonant-mass region
K^+K^- production in two-photon collisions has been studied using a large
data sample of 67 fb^{-1} accumulated with the Belle detector at the KEKB
asymmetric e^+e^- collider. We have measured the cross section for the process
gamma gamma -> K^+ K^- for center-of-mass energies between 1.4 and 2.4 GeV, and
found three new resonant structures in the energy region between 1.6 and 2.4
GeV. The angular differential cross sections have also been measured.Comment: 24 pages, 8 figures, to appear in Euro. Phys. Jour.
Study of charmonia in four-meson final states produced in two-photon collisions
We report measurements of charmonia produced in two-photon collisions and
decaying to four-meson final states, where the meson is either a charged pion
or a charged kaon. The analysis is based on a 395fb^{-1} data sample
accumulated with the Belle detector at the KEKB electron-positron collider. We
observe signals for the three C-even charmonia eta_c(1S), chi_{c0}(1P) and
chi_{c2}(1P) in the pi^+pi^-pi^+pi^-, K^+K^-pi^+pi^- and K^+K^-K^+K^- decay
modes. No clear signals for eta_c(2S) production are found in these decay
modes. We have also studied resonant structures in charmonium decays to
two-body intermediate meson resonances. We report the products of the
two-photon decay width and the branching fractions, Gamma_{gamma gamma}B, for
each of the charmonium decay modes.Comment: 22 pages, 12 figure
Observation of the and the Y(2175) in
The cross sections for and e^+ e^- \to \phi
\fzero are measured from threshold to using
initial state radiation. The analysis is based on a data sample of 673
fb collected on and below the resonance with the Belle
detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy collider. First measurements
are reported for the resonance parameters of the in the
mode: MeV/ and MeV/. A structure at ,
corresponding to the so called Y(2175), is observed; its mass and width are
determined to be MeV/ and , respectively.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures. Add one plot. Accepted by Phys.Rev.D(RC
Observation of Ds1(2536)+ -> D+pi-K+ and angular decomposition of Ds1(2536)+ -> D*+K0S
Using 462/fb of e+e- annihilation data recorded by the Belle detector, we
report the first observation of the decay Ds1(2536)+ -> D+pi-K+. The ratio of
branching fractions B(Ds1+ -> D+pi-K+)/B(Ds1+ -> D*+K0) is measured to be
(3.27+-0.18+-0.37)%. We also study the angular distributions in the Ds1(2536)+
-> D*+K0S decay and measure the ratio of D- and S-wave amplitudes. The S-wave
dominates, with a partial width of Gamma_S/Gamma_total=0.72+-0.05+-0.01.Comment: Submitted to Phys.Rev.D 16 pages, 6 figures, 3 table
