Evaluasi Karakter Morfo-fisiologis Sumber Daya Genetik Padi Berumur Genjah

Rice varieties with short maturity and high productivity can be achieved when there is available genetic resources in a sufficient level of variability. Morphological characters, such as leaf thickness and crop growth rate, could affect in crop productivity. Evaluation of seed germination rate, crop growth rate, and their efficiency used for nitrogen have been done on 25 accessions of rice. Seed germination rate of B11283-6C-PN-5-MR-34-1-1-3, Lariang, B11742-RS-2-3-MR-34-1-2-3 reached 1,0-1,3 g/hill/day during seed initiation, while Dodokan and Silugonggo reached 0.7-0.8 g/hill/day. Danau Atas, B.11283-6C-PN-5-MR-2-3-Sl-1-2-1-1, B11742-RS-2-3-MR-34-1-2-3 and B11742-RS-2-3-MR-34-1-4-1 lines show good perfomance, moreover B11742-RS-2-3-MR-34-1-1-3, B11742-RS-2-3-MR-34-1-1-4 and B11742-RS-2-3-MR-34-1-1-4 lines produced grain yield higher than Silugonggo and Dodokan varieties. Those lines could be harvested at about 96 days after planting

Germ Plasm Diversity of Groundnut Based on the Character of Morphology, Result, and Oil Content

Groundnut is one of the largest vegetable oil and has a good nutritional value. It could be used as an alternative source of food, industrial raw materials, and bioenergy. The main function of fats and oil in seeds reserves source of energy. This research aims to study the diversity of morphological, yield, and the oil content in groundnut germplasm. The planting of groundnut was conducted at the experimental station Cikeumeuh BB Biogen Bogor from July until December in 2013, with the germplasm of groundnut as much as 200 accessions. The characters identification is determined by the method of morphological characterization with Groundnut Descriptor from IPGRI. Analyze oil content of groundnut used soxhlets method at the Laboratory of Post-harvest Bogor. The results showed that germplasm groundnut have varied levels of diversity at characters. Relatively high morphological diversity founded the character of pod yield/plot, weight of pods/plant and number of immature pods. Groundnut oil content is range 33% to 47%. There are a real positive correlation between the number of pods to variable morphology, yield and oil content, but negatively correlation at weight of 100 seeds. Number of pods and number of branches is positively correlation with oil content of groundnut seeds. Cultivars groundnut that have the characters of promise could be used as national asset and the source of genes as a parent in the breeding program

Partnerships for involving small-scale growers in commercial forestry: lessons from Australia and Indonesia

The trade relationship between small-scale growers and processing companies often plays an important role in determining the nature and extent of benefi ts derived from commercial forestry, and the distribution of these benefi ts. Many strategies are used by individual small-scale growers, village communities, companies and government agencies to form partnerships to undertake commercial forestry – including outgrower schemes, land leasing by companies, and using intermediary brokers between small-scale growers and processors. This article reports on the key fi ndings of a three-year research project that explored different business partnerships used in commercial forestry in Australia and Indonesia, and identifi ed the critical factors for benefi cial and enduring partnerships. The key lessons from this research are that, for many small-scale growers to form successful partnerships with other investors, they need: increased knowledge of the operations and components of commercial forestry; improved access to competitive markets; increased knowledge of the dynamics of forest product markets; improved capacity of local farmer forest groups to share experiences and information, and build their knowledge of commercial forestry; and reduced administrative and fi nancial burden imposed by government on small-scale forestry operation
