peer-reviewedColour acts as one of the triggers for acceptance of snack foods. Digital imaging in conjunction with Adobe Photoshop can help identification of variations in the colour of extruded products. Response surface methodology-based central composite rotatable designed experiments were conducted to understand the colour components and overall acceptability (OAA) of extruded snacks made from millet–legume blends, 12–28% legume, at different moisture content (MC) of 12–24% wet basis (w.b.), extruded at varying die head temperatures (DHT) from 160–200 °C, barrel temperatures from 100–140 °C and screw speeds of 100–140 rpm. A simple digital camera was used for capturing the images of the extrudates. An L*a*b* colour model (where L* is the black/ white element, a* is green/red and b* is blue/yellow) was used for colour characterisation and OAA was determined by a hedonic scale. It was inferred from the analysis of the resulting statistically valid second order models for the responses that all the colour components were significantly affected by the amount of legume in the extruder feed and by the DHT. It was also observed that DHT, synergistically with other processing parameters, had a significant effect on all the responses. The OAA was highest for the extrudates with higher L* values. Optimum processing conditions were derived while the responses adhered to constraints. The responses of the extrudates prepared under optimum conditions exhibited no significant variation from model predicted values

Reductive Biotransformation of Ethyl Acetoacetate: A Comparative Studies using Free and Immobilized Whole Yeast Cells

    Get PDF
Bioreduction of ethyl acetoacetate with free and immobilized yeast whole cell was achieved by using water and sucrose combination. After detachment from immobilized beads under basic condition, the corresponding ethyl(S)-(+)-3-hydroxybutanoate was isolated with 98 to 100% yield. Immobilized beads of yeast whole cell were prepared at different temperature which affects the morphology and physiology of the beads for the diffusion of the enzyme, which shown the maximum conversion of the substrate to products as compared to the free yeast whole cell

Personality Based Recommendation System Using Social Media

    Get PDF
Recommendation system is the reason of success for most of the social media companies as well as e-commerce sites. Giving recommendation to the uses is one of the interesting and challenging tasks nowadays, it helps to generate revenue, to increase number of users, to reduce the searching time for particular item. Recommendation system helps for making interest in user and eventually it increases the popularity of any site. Huge number of items (product, users, movies, songs, hotels etc.) and its feature sets makes it hard to predict the accurate items to the user. It is important to keep all historic data of user as well as all information about the items to generate recommendation. In this paper, the personality of the user is used with the combination on the most popular recommendation techniques like collaborative filtering (CF) and content based filtering (CB) proposed on the amazon review data set. In the first model the personality of the user is calculated by using the big five model on the twitter account. In the second module Collaborative filtering is used to generate the recommendation based on the historic information of the user wherries in third module, Content based filtering is uses to generate recommendation based on the feature set of the item. Pearson-correlation algorithm is applied on both modules and ranking are generated. Finally union of the both vector space are taken as the final recommendation

Naturally Occurring Hydroxy Napthoquinones and Their Iron Complexes as Modulators of Radiation Induced Lipid Peroxidation in Synaptosomes

    Get PDF
The modulation of radiation induced lipid peroxidation in synaptosomes by iron (II) and iron (III) complexes of two naturally occurring and therapeutically relevant naphthoquinones viz. 5,hydroxy-1,4 naphthoquinone; juglone and 2,hydroxy-1,4 naphthoquinone; lawsone, have been studied. At lower concentrations the complexes enhance lipid peroxidation predominantly through redox cycling as observed for Fe(II)- juglonate while at higher concentrations the complexes tend to limit lipid peroxidation through fast recombinations

Acardia (Twin Reversed Arterial Perfusion Sequence) is a rare and one of the most bizarre congenital malformations occurring in multiple pregnancies. It affects 1 in 35,000 pregnancies. Usually one twin shows absence of heart and other is structurally normal. The acardiac twin presents with many bizarre anomalies such as lack of head, thorax and upper extremities. We report a case of autopsy study of acardiac twin with severe malformations. The case has been presented for its rarity

Prevalence of self-medication practices in the Maharashtra population: a cross-sectional study

    Get PDF
Background: Self-medication is a significant issue in public health, with varying global prevalence. It is one of the major causes of the emergence of antibiotic resistance in India. The study's objective was to identify the pattern, cause, and adverse events of self-medication in Maharashtra's urban and rural areas. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted using a pre-populated questionnaire; including information on age (18-85 years), non-prescription and prescription medication use. Age, gender, past medical and medication history, social history, and self-medication pattern, frequency, reason, source of information, and adverse events noticed as a result of self-medication are all sociodemographic questions on the questionnaire. A percentage analysis was used to examine the data. Results: Study states that out of 400 sample, 76% of the individuals self-medicate, with painkillers (49.4%), antacids (23.7%), antibiotics (15.3%), being the most often used drugs for ailments like headache, fever, bodily pain, and acidity. The top most medications taken for self-medication are paracetamol (53.1%), pantoprazole (30.43%), ondansetron (13.62%), and azithromycin (12.46%); 66.07% usage of prescription drugs as self-medication was found. The most frequent causes of self-medication were discovered to be mild illnesses, the easy accessibility of medications, and chemist recommendations, 8% of those surveyed had adverse events, and sources of information were chemists, past prescriptions, family members, and acquaintances. Conclusions: In Maharashtra, self-medication is a prevalent practice that primarily utilizes over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. As a result, consumers should be made aware of the hazards of antibiotic resistance and other pharmaceuticals

Ectopic Prostatic and Seminal Vesicle Tissue Confusing as Metastatic Adenocarcinoma

    Get PDF
Ectopic prostatic tissue and seminal vesicle at pericolic fat is extremely rare. The nodules in the pericolic fat could raise a dilemma of metastatic deposits in cases of rectal adenocarcinoma. A 61 years old male underwent abdomino-perineal resection for rectal carcinoma. Nodules along with lymph nodes from pericolic fat were sampled to assess the spread. Histopathological and immunohistochemical staining of one nodule confirmed it to be the prostatic tissue while another nodule to be seminal vesicle. Seminal vesicle and prostatic heterotopia is significant in several respects, either symptomatic or asymptomatic, as the ectopic tissue can be endoscopically and histologically confused with malignancy of urinary or lower gastrointestinal system and may reflect divergent differentiation or a malformative process

Marine turtle conservation programs in villages of Ratnagiri, Maharashtra

Maharashtra is active in sea turtle conservation and its citizen actions with support of forest department are highly commendable particularly in some regions of southern Maharashtra. During the surveys conducted at Harne and Kolthare villages of Ratnagiri in March 2019 it was observed that local volunteers known as “Kasav Mitra” identified by Forest Department, in Ratnagiri District of Maharashtra are undertaking beach patrolling and relocating the eggs to secured enclosures for multiple reasons such as the egg sites being too close to tide water level, beaches open to public that can result in eggs being unknowingly crushed by beachgoers, or dug up by dogs or targeted poaching
