    Finding Best Compiler Options for Critical Software Using Parallel Algorithms

    The efficiency of a software piece is a key factor for many systems. Real-time programs, critical software, device drivers, kernel OS functions and many other software pieces which are executed thousands or even millions of times per day require a very efficient execution. How this software is built can significantly affect the run time for these programs, since the context is that of compile-once/run-many. In this sense, the optimization flags used during the compilation time are a crucial element for this goal and they could make a big difference in the final execution time. In this paper, we use parallel metaheuristic techniques to automatically decide which optimization flags should be activated during the compilation on a set of benchmarking programs.     DISTANCE AND HOPS-BASED ENERGY ESTIMATION IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS

    The world of internet of things (IoT) and automation has been catching a robust pace to impact wide range of commercial and domestic applications for some time now. The IoT holds ad-hoc or wireless sensor networks (WSNs) at its very primary implementation level, the hardware level. The increasing requirement of these networks demands a renewed and better design of the network that improves the already existing setbacks of WSNs, which is mainly the power consumption and optimization. Routing highly affects the power consumed in the nodes in WSNs, hence having a modified routing algorithm which is specific to the application and meets its needs, particularly it is a good approach instead of having a generalized existent routing approach. Currently, for WSN having adequate number of nodes, routing involves maximum number of nodes and hops so as to reduce power consumption. However, for restricted areas and limited nodes, this scenario concludes with using up more number of nodes simultaneously resulting in reducing several batteries simultaneously. A routing algorithm is proposed in this paper for such applications that have a bounded region with limited resources. The work proposed in this paper is motivated from the routing algorithm positional attribute based next-hop determination approach (PANDA-TP) which proposes the increase in number of hops to reduce the requirement of transmission power. The aim of the proposed work is to compute the distance between the sending and receiving node and to measure the transmission power that would be required for a direct(path with minimum possible hops) and a multi-hop path. If the node is within the thresh-hold distance of the source, the packet is undoubtedly transferred directly; if the node is out of the thresh-hold distance, then the extra distance is calculated. Based on this, the power boosting factor for the source node, and if necessary, then the extra number of nodes that would be required to transmit is determined. An extra decision-making step is added to this approach which makes it convenient to utilize in varied situations. This routing approach suits the current level of robustness that the WSNs demand.Ă‚

    CDHA Ceramic Microspheres for Periodontitis Treatment: Synthesis, Characterization and Doxycycline Release Profiles

    The present study is focused on the development of doxycycline loaded calcium–deficient hydroxyapatite (CDHA) microspheres for the treatment of periodontitis. The CDHA microspheres were formed by liquid immiscibility effect using gelatin and paraffin oil with varying Ca/P ratios using calcium hydroxide and diammonium hydrogen orthophosphate as precursors. The morphology of the microspheres as characterized by SEM was optimized by varying the gelatin content. The doxycycline incorporation and its release profiles were studied by UV-Visible spectroscopy in phosphate buffer at physiological conditions. The pH of the buffer solution was initially optimized to have maximum amount of drug loading. Doxycycline loading around the physiological pH of 7 has the highest amount of drug incorporation. All the microspheres exhibit similar release profiles with an initial gradual increase reaching a maximum value and then nearly constant release. The microspheres formed using 6% gelatin shows maximum amount of drug release of 80%

The recent one was the cyclone Phailin which was equivalent to a category-5 hurricane on the Saffir–Simpson hurricane wind scale(SSHWS). The cyclonic storm developed over the north of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 9 October 2013.     Study of spatial-temporal variations in the green Noctiluca scintillans and diatom blooms in the Arabian Sea using MODIS data

    Phytoplankton blooms of green Noctiluca scintillans (a dinoflagellate) and diatom, which appear in the Northern and Central Arabian Sea during winter are far-reaching and persistent. Generation of phytoplankton species images revealed a massive winter bloom with huge spatial extent in 2015. In contrast to this, the classified species images for 2013 indicated relatively weaker bloom with respect to its spread. A plot of total number of pixels classified as diatom and Noctiluca scintillans for different years revealed a cyclic pattern of the spread. The report deals with an approach to forecast the bloom / productivity of the oceanic waters in the Northern-Central Arabian Sea in a qualitative way making use of the systematic pattern of its distribution across the year

    Caecal perforation with faecal peritonitis – unusual presentation of Bochdalek hernia in an adult: a case report and review of literature

    The improper fusion of the postero-lateral foramen of the diaphragm was first described by Bochdalek in 1848. The incidence of congenital diaphragmatic hernia varies from1:2000 to 1:5000 live births and Bochdalek hernias (BH) account for 75 to 85% of these. Although it is a well-known entity in neonates, it is occasionally discovered incidentally in adult patients. Until now, a total of around 100 cases of occult asymptomatic Bochdalek hernia have been reported. The symptomatic cases are encountered more rarely. Colon necrosis among the symptomatic cases was reported in some reports. We discuss the present case since we believe it to be, to the best of our knowledge, the first case of a Bochdalek hernia in an adult presenting with caecal perforation and faecal peritonitis and review the published literature about this rare condition

    A 36-year-old female patient came with an bilateral lower extremity pain and altered sensation, physical evaluation and radiological finding are normal, and there was presence of myofascial trigger points in both lower extremities diagnosed as a myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) and had been treated for it. The failure of treatment for MPS is followed by reevaluation, and on subjective evaluation, her genital symptoms such as unresolving genital arousal, fullness, engorgement, and restless leg syndrome were revealed, and on the objective evaluation, there was an overactive pelvic floor muscles; with subjective and objective findings, the problem was diagnosed as persistent genital arousal disorder (PGAD), the problem causing pathoanatomic structure and pathomechanism was discovered and addressed with manual physiotherapy, and the patient got complete solution from the PGAD.     Successful monitoring of the 11 April 2012 tsunami off the coast of Sumatra by Indian Tsunami Early Warning Centre

    The Indian Tsunami Early Warning Centre (ITEWC) in Hyderabad monitored the 11 April 2012 tsunami off the coast of Sumatra, which was generated by a shallow strike-slip earthquake and it largest aftershock of magnitude Mw (mB) 8.5 and 8.2 respectively, that occurred inside the subducting slab of the Indian plate. The earthquake generated a small ocean-wide tsunami that has been recorded by various tide gauges and tsunami buoys located in the Indian Ocean region. ITEWC detected the earthquake within 3 min 52 s and issued six advisories (bulletins) according to its Standard Operating Procedure. The ITEWC performed well during the event, and avoided false alarms and unnecessary public evacuations, especially in the mainland part of India region

    Optimal process for the extraction and identification of flavonoids from the leaves of Polyalthia longifolia using L16 Orthogonal design of experiment

    The study has been carried out to investigate the effects of single factors such as temperature, extraction time, concentration of ethanol, material ratio and no. of extractions on the contents of flavonoids present in the leaves of Polyalthia longifolia. On this basis, an L16 orthogonal design of experiment was used to determine the optimal conditions for the extraction of flavonoids. The amount of flavonoids extracted reached its maxima at 65 ÂşC for 2 hrs by using 75% ethanol (modifier) with a material ratio of 1:10 and 2 times ofextraction.
