    A study on the quality of life among stroke survivors: A cross sectional study

    Background: The World Health Organization defines - Health as a “state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” Methodology: A cross sectional study on 96 patients with stroke aged more than 30 years was carried out NIMS Hospital, Jaipur for a period of 4 months from 1st January 2018 to 30th April 2018. Results: Out of 96 patients, Mean quality of score of patients with stroke was 65.04±9.982 there was significant difference seen in quality of life score according to sex, side of lesion, duration of stroke, socioeconomic status, occupation and hypertension. Conclusions: It can be said that quality of life is a multidimensional concept. As stroke cases is among the most devastating of health aspect, having multiple and profound effects upon all aspects of life, hence evaluation of quality of life is very important. Each and every effort should be made to improve these aspects and in turn to activity daily living (ADL) and improve the overall quality of stroke patients

    Synthesis and Structural Properties of Nanocrystalline (Pb1-xBix)S Thin Films

    Nanocrystalline (Pb1-xBix)S thin films were successfully deposited on suitably cleaned glass substrate at constant room temperature, using the chemical bath deposition technique. After deposition the films were also annealed at 4000C for 1 hour in air. The crystal structures of the films were determined by X-ray diffraction studies. The films are adherent to the substrate and well crystallized according to cubic structure with the preferential orientation (200). The crystallite size of the pure PbS thin films at optimized deposition time 30 min was found to be 40.4 nm, which increased with Bi content in pure nanocrystalline PbS thin films. The surface roughness of the films was measured by AFM studies. Experiments showed that the growth parameters, doping and annealing influenced the crystal structure of the films. Key word: A.     Occurrences of thrombocytopenia with valproic acid used for psychiatric indication

    Background: The main aim of this study is to find out the effect of valproic acid on platelet count and to know the possible risk factors for thrombocytopenia in patients taking valproate (VPA).Methods: On 72 patients having psychiatric indication, a longitudinal observational study was designed and conducted from February 2012 to July 2013 at Department of Psychiatry (out-patient department) of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Medical College and Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, Jail Road, Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Platelet count was monitored and determined using an automatic coulter analyzer. The patients were followed up to 6 months. Statistical tool standard deviation ± was used for statistical analysis. p<0.05 is considered as statistically significant.Results: Total percentage of thrombocytopenia was found to be 12.5%; among that males constitute 9.8% and females 19.04%. The maximum number of cases falls in the age group between 51 and 60 years (55.5%). The major diagnostic group was reported to be consisted of mania (40.4%), followed by resistant cases of schizophrenia (25%) and then bipolar affective disorder (23.6%). The study indicated that maximum patients suffered from mild thrombocytopenia (11.1%) and (1.4%) patients have moderate thrombocytopenia. The mean time from exposure to VPA therapy to the first episode of thrombocytopenia was reported 92 days.Conclusions: Our findings underlined the importance of monitoring platelet counts in patients treated with VPA. This monitoring should be continued indefinitely on monthly basis. The studies indicate that the demands of more vigilant monitoring of patients should occur in age of 50-60 years, and result of entire studies indicates that females were found to be subjected to incidences of thrombocytopenia especially

    Studies on genetic variability for some metric traits in slender grain rice genotypes

    An experiment was conducted to study genetic variability in forty-nine elite slender grain rice genotypes for thirteen component characters including grain yield.The experimental materials possessed a considerable amount of variability for all the traits. Majority of the traits showed the smaller difference between phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) and genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV). Both PCV and GCV were high for grain yield (gm) (PCV:27.14%, GCV:26.27%), and fertile grains per panicles(PCV:20.61%, GCV:20.52%), indicating less effect of environment on these characters. PCV and GCV were moderate for characters like harvest index (PCV:16.99%, GCV: 14.18%), 100 seed weight (gm) (PCV:14.57%, GCV:13.82%), fertility percentage (PCV:15.72%, GCV:15.05%), flag leaf area (cm2 ) (PCV:17.83%, GCV: 17.74%) and days to 50 % flowering (PCV:11.20%, GCV:11.17%) indicating that there is considerable amount of environmental effect on such characters. Moderate to a high degree of heritability estimates were observed for the majority of the traits under study except for a number of effective tillers/plant indicating the low or negligible influence of environment in the expression of these traits and may respond to selection for their improvement. High heritability (H2 )estimates were associated with moderate to high genetic gain over mean (GAM) for days to 50% flowering (H2 : 99.35%,GAM: 19.52%), plant height (H2 :93.89%,GAM:14.01%), panicle length (H2 :94.06%,GAM:14.04%), flag leaf area(H2 : 98.93%,GAM: 31.05%), fertile grains/panicle (H2 :99.20%,GAM: 35.98%), fertility percentage (H2 :91.57%,GAM:25.34%),100 seed weight (H2 :89.90%,GAM:23.06%)and grain yield per plant (H2 :93.71%,GAM:44.76%) indicating the presence of additive gene effect and hence selection based on phenotypic performance for these traits would be effective

    Bearing Capacity of Sulphuric Acid Content Soil

    Tests were conducted to determine the property of soil with variation of H2SO4 content for soils under different stage. The soils had varying amounts of plasticity's ranging from low to high plasticity. The unsaturated soil behavior was investigated for different conditions, covering a range of compactive efforts and water contents. The soil characteristic curves were more sensitive to changes in compaction effort than changes in compaction water content. In this research paper two types of water (Ground water Ph =7.9, Turbidity= 13 ppm; Cl =2.1mg/l and surface water Ph =8.65; Turbidity=18.5; Cl=1mg/l) were selected of Bhilai Nagar, State-Chhattisgarh, India which is mixed with a certain type of soil. Results shows that by the presence of ground water day by day the particles are becoming coarser in 7 days thereafter its size reduces; on the other hand by the presence of surface water the courser particles are disintegrating, finer particles are accumulating and also the dry density is reduces. Plasticity soils retained the smallest water content and the highest plasticity soils retained the highest water content at a specified suction. In addition, soil characteristic for soils to be compacted in the laboratory and in the field are still under process for analyzing the bearing capacity. The bearing capacity was reduced 2 to 3 times in the presence of H2SO4
