    Colloidal Nano-apatite Particles with Active Luminescent and Magentic Properties for Biotechnology Applications. The synthesis of functional nano-materials is a burgeoning field that has produced remarkable and consistent breakthroughs over the last two decades. Individual particles have become smaller and shown potential for well defined functionality. However, there are still unresolved problems, a primary one being the loss of functionality and novelty due to uncontrolled aggregation driven by surface energy considerations. As such the first design criteria to harness the true potential of nanoparticles is to prevent unwanted agglomeration by: (1) improving, and, if possible, (2) controlling aggregation behavior. This requires specific knowledge of the chemistry of the immediate locale of the intended application; especially for biologically relevant applications. The latter criterion is also application driven but should be considered, generally, to diversify the range of functional properties that can be achieved. We have now reason to believe that such a novel system with multifunctional capabilities can be synthesized rather conveniently and have far reaching impact in biotechnology and other applications in the near future. We are presently experimenting with the syntheses of spheroidal, metal-doped, colloidal apatite nano-particles (~10 nm) for several potential biomedical applications

    Disorder-induced critical exponents near a ferromagnetic quantum critical point in Mn1−xCrxSi

    We report the observation of critical behavior in Mn1−xCrxSi (0≤x≤1) close to a T = 0 K quantum critical point, consistent with the Belitz-Kirkpatrick-Vojta (BKV) theory of disordered metallic ferromagnets. The critical exponents are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions of the BKV theory in the preasymptotic limit. A non-Fermi liquid-like behavior is seen down to 200 mK in the transport and thermodynamic properties around the critical concentration xC = 0.2. Quantum criticality and self-consistency of the exponents is further confirmed using a scaling analysis of the magnetization and heat capacity data. A recovery to Fermi liquid-like behavior is displayed on moving away from the critical composition, as well as with the application of a magnetic field

    Performance of MMSE Based MIMO Radar Waveform Design in White and Colored Noise

    In this paper we consider multiple input multiple output (MIMO) radar waveform design based on white noise and colored noise. The estimation oriented measure are used as criterions for optimal waveform design under transmitted power constraint. One of the estimation measure named the mean square error is minimized between target impulse response and target echoes, the optimal solutions are derived and the optimality of matching of the singular vectors are proved. This paper uses Sum power constraint power allocation strategy for allocation of power to the antennas which shares the total power among the antennas. The MMSE performance under white noise is better compared to colored noise. Earlier works on multiple input multiple output radar is based on MMSE considered the optimization of singular value of the waveform matrix. Here the optimization of the singular vectors was also considered which forms the basis of singular value optimization. To obtain minimum MMSE the pairing of the eigenvectors of the target and noise should be carefully designed. The optimal pairing of the eigenvectors based on MMSE is fixed

    Management of Bacterial Wilt of Tomato Caused by Ralstonia solanacearum (Smith) Yabuuchi et al Using Biological Control Agents

    Biological control agents, Glomus mosseae IIHR, Bacillus subtilis IIHR-1, Pseudomonas fluorescens IIHR+3, Trichoderma harzianum IIHR P1 and T. viride IIHR P22 were evaluated against tomato wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum in pathogen-infested plots during 2003-2004. Microbial preparations were applied either as transplant root dips or root dip plus soil drench 30 days after transplanting. Per cent survivability increased with the use of all biological control agents tested. However, G. mosseae treated plants resulted in better survival (25.75 and 28.79% in root dip alone and 60 and 66.67% in root dip plus drench against untreated control 0 and 1.5% during 2003 and 2004 respectively), compared to the rest of the treatments, suggesting G. mosseae amendment to pathogen-infested soil would result in substantially higher plant survival against the untreated controls

    Physical Interaction and Control of Robotic Systems Using Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation

    Robotic systems used in industries and other complex applications need huge investment, and testing of them under robust conditions are highly challenging. Controlling and testing of such systems can be done with ease with the support of hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation technique and it saves lot of time and resources. The chapter deals on the various interaction methods of robotic systems with physical environments using tactile, force, and vision sensors. It also discusses about the usage of hardware-in-the-loop technique for testing of grasp and task control algorithms in the model of robotic systems. The chapter also elaborates on usage of hardware and software platforms for implementing the control algorithms for performing physical interaction. Finally, the chapter summarizes with the case study of HIL implementation of the control algorithms in Texas Instruments (TI) C2000 microcontroller, interacting with model of Kuka’s youBot Mobile Manipulator. The mathematical model is developed using MATLAB software and the virtual animation setup of the robot is developed using the Virtual Robot Experimentation Platform (V-REP) robot simulator. By actuating the Kuka’s youBot mobile manipulator in the V-REP tool, it is observed to produce a tracking accuracy of 92% for physical interaction and object handling tasks

    Is fibromyalgia the most common diagnosis amongst female out-patients?

    Background: The objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence of fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) among women coming to outpatient department.Methods: A total of 68,625 female patients were evaluated out of which 47,901 were in the inclusion criteria. The screening protocol included interview items that have been defined as components of FMS using the 1990 American College of Rheumatology (ACR) classification criteria. Data was entered in mx excel sheet and results were analyzed. The socio-demographic data was expressed in proportions.Results: Out of 47,901 female patients, about 40.7% of the patients were diagnosed to have fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). Out of which the major group of patients belong to married, unskilled women aged between 40-60 years of age. Conclusions: Fibromyalgia syndrome is the commonest diagnosis among the female patients coming to orthopedic outpatient department

    Background: This is an observational study that was carried out to find the mean Insall Salvati ratio and modified Insall Salvati ratio in people coming to outpatient department requiring radiograph of knee joint..Methods: Radiological assessment of 200 knees which included 100 men and 100 women above the age group of 18,in a period of 6 months for which Insall Salvati and modified Insall Salvati ratio were calculated.Results: The mean Insall Salvati ratio was calculated to be 0.805 and the mean modified Insall Salvati ratio was 0.605 in South Indian.Conclusions: Based on the above study i conclude that majority of South Indian population had patella baja with female predominance
