    W+W−W^+W^- production in Large extra dimension model at next-to-leading order in QCD at the LHC

    We present next-to-leading order QCD corrections to production of two WW bosons in hadronic collisions in the extra dimension ADD model. Various kinematical distributions are obtained to order αs\alpha_s in QCD by taking into account all the parton level subprocesses. We estimate the impact of the QCD corrections on various observables and find that they are significant. We also show the reduction in factorization scale uncertainty when O(αs){\cal O}(\alpha_s) effects are included.Comment: Journal versio

    A case report on hyperpigmentation in vitamin B12 deficiency

    Cobalamin (Vitamin B12) is a water-soluble vitamin. Cobalamin is synthesized only by microorganisms. The only source of vitamin B12 for humans is food of animal origin. Hyperpigmentation of skin has been reported only rarely as the presenting manifestation of vitamin B12 deficiency. We report a patient who had hyperpigmentation as her presenting medical complaint and in whom Vitamin B12 deficiency was the cause.  A 36-year-old female presented with generalised weakness and progressive and asymptomatic hyperpigmentation of hand and feet for 5 months. She is vegetarian by diet. On examination, hyperpigmentation was present over dorsal aspect of metacarpophalangeal, proximal and distal interphalangeal joints. Hyperpigmentation were present over dorsum of the foot and over the joints. The tongue was depaillated, and hyperpigmentation was present. Her serum level of vitamin B12 was diminished (83pg/ml). Megaloblastic anemia presents with protean manifestations. The association between vitamin B12 deficiency and hyperpigmentation, although unusual, has been described. Cutaneous manifestations associated with B12 deficiency include characteristic mucocutaneous hyperpigmentation (most common), vitiligo, angular cheilitis, and hair-nail changes. It mainly affects knuckle pads and oral mucosa. It is an under-recognized sign of megaloblastic anemia and should always be looked for in the setting of pallor. Hyperpigmentation could be the earliest manifestation of vitamin B12 deficiency before anemia sets in. It is worthwhile to consider the possibility of vitamin B12 or folate deficiency in a patient with unexplained pigmentary changes. Early detection and adequate treatment will prevent anemia and various neurological manifestations

    Oral and maxillofacial surgery in patients on anticoagulant/antiplatelet therapy- a review

    Objective: To review the antiplatelet and anticoagulant drugs currently used and to highlight the management of patients with anticoagulant therapy undergoing minor and invasive oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures. Materials and methods: A systematic review of the literature on PubMed, Science Direct, Springer regarding anticoagulation therapy during oral surgery procedures from 1996 to 2020 was done. Data on the indications for anticoagulant treatment, the regimen of anticoagulation, bridging used, the procedure done, local hemostatic agents used, thromboembolic outcome, follow-up period and bleeding characteristics were collected. Results: The thromboembolic risk due to withdrawal of oral anticoagulants outweighs the risk of bleeding and thus in majority of minor oral surgical procedures discontinuing the regimen is not recommended. Most of the bleeding complications can be controlled with local hemostatic measures. Major invasive oral and maxillofacial procedures with high risk patients warrants cessation of anticoagulant drugs with bridging therapy. The novel oral anticoagulants and newer antiplatelet agents has definite advantages over older main stay drugs especially warfarin and aspirin

    Prosthetic management of severely resorbed mandibular ridge using neutral zone technique in complete dentures: a case report

    Any prosthodontic procedure aims to restore a patient\u27s function, contours, aesthetics, speech, and health to normal. In traditional complete dentures, achieving optimal denture stability is always found to be a challenge. This is often exacerbated in resorbed mandibular ridges. Therefore, this article describes a strategy for enhancing the retention of mandibular complete dentures for individuals with an extremely resorbed ridge. A patient reported to the department of prosthodontics with a chief complaint of loose dentures and wanted to get them replaced. A complete clinical examination was carried out which revealed severely resorbed mandibular ridge. After a complete evaluation, prosthetic rehabilitation with a complete denture using the neutral zone technique was panned. The complete denture was made and delivered to the patient was superior in terms of stability, function and aesthetics. The clinician should understand the advantages of the neutral zone technique and implement it in clinical practice so that a prosthesis that is functionally, physiologically and psychologically acceptable to the patient can be delivered

    Navigating the clinical ambiguity of implant placement in two young pubescent patients: an insight from two case reports

    The horizon of implant dentistry has been ever-expanding owing to its long-term success in rehabilitating partially or completely edentulous cases. This perennial success and efficiency have encouraged clinicians to use osseo-integrated implants to replace teeth lost in children either due to trauma or congenital absence. Although a myriad of studies and publications suggest the placement of implants only after the attainment of skeletal maturity, as the growth-related changes such as remodelling, displacement, and mesial drift can put the future of implant and restoration in jeopardy, the use of implants in young pubescent or adolescent looks promising due to its evident psychological and social advantages over other contemporary alternatives such as a removable prosthesis or resin-bonded bridge. The first case report highlights a 16-year follow-up of a young girl treated at the age of 10 with an implant-supported prosthesis for the replacement of a missing maxillary left central incisor. The second case report centers around a 19-year-old teenage girl who underwent rehabilitation with a permanent fixed prosthesis, replacing her previous implant-supported temporary prosthesis. The implant was initially placed when she was 10 years old

    A Rare Case Report of Idiopathic Abdominal Cocoon Presenting as Acute Intestinal Obstruction-Management Challenges

    The idiopathic variant of sclerosing Intraperitoneal fibrosis is a rare pathological entity causing intestinal obstruction. Even though it is described since the beginning of the last century, we are still clueless about the aetiology of this problem. The presentation is often confusing and the clinical and laboratory values will be not confirmatory to establish a diagnosis. A Contrast-enhanced CT scan is a vital investigation of choice. Here we discuss a case of intestinal obstruction with a preop diagnosis of internal herniation, which turned out to be a case of massive intraperitoneal fibrosis. The histopathology was not significant, and no secondary cause was identified. The case report throws wisdom into the existence of this entity and how with a CT scan we can suspect it before surgery. With adequate and meticulous enterolysis we can surgically rehabilitate these patients so that they can lead a normal life

    High-Level fermentative production of Lactic acid from bread waste under Non-sterile conditions with a circular biorefining approach and zero waste discharge

    Bread waste (BW) is a severe solid waste management problem in Europe. The current study demonstrates an environment-friendly solution by valorising BW into lactic acid (LA) and the corresponding solid residues generated during hydrolysis and fermentation to biogas. To this end, BW was saccharified through acidic and enzymatic hydrolysis, and the hydrolysate obtained was used for LA fermentation under non-sterile conditions using thermophilic Bacillus coagulans DSM1. Maximum glucose concentration achieved during acid hydrolysis with 2% (v/v) acid loading and 20% (w/v) solid loading was 67.9 g/L glucose, with a yield of 0.34 g/g BW. The LA accumulated with concentrated BW acid hydrolysate was 102.4 g/L with yield and productivity of 0.75 g/g and 1.42 g/L. h, respectively. For enzymatic hydrolysis, three commercial amylase preparations (Amyloglucosidase, Spirizyme, Dextrozyme) were employed. The highest glucose release (98.6 g/L) and yield (0.49 g glucose/g BW) was attained with Dextrozyme from Novozymes. The fed-batch fermentation by B. coagulans was conducted, using commercial glucose and glucose-rich BW hydrolysate from Dextrozyme. The LA titer, yield and productivity obtained with pure glucose were 222.7 g/L, 0.92 g/g and 1.86 g/L.h, respectively, whereas BW hydrolysate (BWH) resulted in 155.4 g/L LA, with a conversion yield and productivity of 0.85 g/g glucose and 1.30 g/L. h, respectively. Further to the LA biosynthesis, the solid residues generated during hydrolysis and fermentation were subjected to biogas generation, resulting in 553 mL CH4/g volatile solids under batch mode. This massive LA titer amassed under non-sterile conditions and integrated biogas production using fermented residues demonstrates a high potential for an integrated biorefinery based on BW
