A generalization of segmentation methods of quantiles and modes to the case of several images

    Get PDF
The problem of segmentation by several images is considered for fragments of a scene containing a given object and its neighborhood. To solve this problem, generalizations of the well-known methods of quantiles and modes are proposed that are constructed on the concept of random distance. The results of computer experiments on the segmentation of model and quasireal scenes by the methods proposed are compared. © 2008 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd

An approach to estimation of image informativeness

    Get PDF
In this paper, the concept of image informativeness is introduced, which allows one to compare images. The goal of comparison is to select the best image from the point of view of efficiency of predetermined object discovery in the scene with respect to geometrical features. The method for calculation of image informativeness is indicated for Bernoulli scenes without deciphering. For the case of locally isotropic scenes when necessary data for image informativeness calculation are unavailable, an informativeness estimation is suggested. © Pleiades Publishing, Ltd., 2009

Thermal Conductivity of Isotopically Enriched 28Si Revisited

The thermal conductivity of isotopically enriched 28Si (enrichment better than 99.9%) was redetermined independently in three laboratories by high precision experiments on a total of 4 samples of different shape and degree of isotope enrichment in the range from 5 to 300 K with particular emphasis on the range near room temperature. The results obtained in the different laboratories are in good agreement with each other. They indicate that at room temperature the thermal conductivity of isotopically enriched 28Si exceeds the thermal conductivity of Si with a natural, unmodified isotope mixture by 102 %. This finding is in disagreement with an earlier report by Ruf et al. At 26 K the thermal conductivity of 28Si reaches a maximum. The maximum value depends on sample shape and the degree of isotope enrichment and exceeds the thermal conductivity of natural Si by a factor of 8 for a 99.982% 28Si enriched sample. The thermal conductivity of Si with natural isotope composition is consistently found to be 3% lower than the values recommended in the literature

Deep learning models for bone suppression in chest radiographs

© 2017 IEEE. Bone suppression in lung radiographs is an important task, as it improves the results on other related tasks, such as nodule detection or pathologies classification. In this paper, we propose two architectures that suppress bones in radiographs by treating them as noise. In the proposed methods, we create end-to-end learning frameworks that minimize noise in the images while maintaining sharpness and detail in them. Our results show that our proposed noise-cancellation scheme is robust and does not introduce artifacts into the images

Thermoelectric power of nondegenerate Kane semiconductors under the conditions of mutual electron-phonon drag in a high electric field

The thermoelectric power of nondegenerate Kane semiconductors with due regard for the electron and phonon heating, and their thermal and mutual drags is investigated. The electron spectrum is taken in the Kane two-band form. It is shown that the nonparabolicity of electron spectrum significantly influences the magnitude of the thermoelectric power and leads to a change of its sign and dependence on the heating electric field. The field dependence of the thermoelectric power is determined analytically under various drag conditions.Comment: 25 pages, RevTex formatted, 3 table
