This paper offers a review of the most important publications on divided towns and consists of two parts. The first focuses on defining basic notions referring to border towns, which the author takes to include divided towns and adjacent towns, and describes examples of such units. Part two, the core of the paper, makes a survey of literature, starting from 1990, in which the objects of study are divided towns in Europe.Opracowanie stanowi przegląd najważniejszych publikacji w zakresie miast podzielonych i składa się z dwóch części. Pierwsza koncentruje się na zdefiniowaniu podstawowych pojęć odnoszących się do miast granicznych, do których autorka zalicza miasta podzielone i miasta stykowe, a następnie opisuje przykłady takich miast. The Gubin-Guben Transborder Urban Complex as an Arena of Consumer Behaviour

Consumer behaviour has led to the development of specific shopping systems in the Gubin-Guben transborder urban complex. One, fairly stable, is geared to the local population service, while the other displays a marked asymmetry in terms of volume and function. On the Polish side, this system responds to changes very dynamically and adjusts to the expectations of consumers from the German side; the German system, however, has opened to the Polish consumer only slightly. The author's research presented here shows that consumer behaviour is largely controlled by the exchange rate of the euro, prices, and the quality of products in the given country; but it also depends on the socio-occupational status of the residents of the two transborder towns

Images of the Urban Spaces of Cieszyn

A number of specific characteristics of the town of Cieszyn are inherently related to its history. Since 1920, Cieszyn has been divided by a state border along the Olza river (except for the war time of 1938-1945). Before that, since the 17th century, the town was part of the Austrian Habsburg empire and was under imperial Vienna's cultural influence. The contemporary structure of the Polish part of Cieszyn includes numerous elements reflecting the town's specificity. Therefore, the social cognitive image of Cieszyn comprises those components of its spatial structure too

Wybory do Sejmu w 2015 r. w województwie wielkopolskim: odmienności przestrzenne w kontekście subregionalnym i lokalnym

Celem niniejszego opracowania jest charakterystyka orientacji politycznych elektoratu województwa wielkopolskiego ujawnionych w wyborach do Sejmu w dniu 25.10.2015 r. w przekroju terytorialnym 35 powiatów. Na podstawie wskaźnika proporcji poparcia dwóch czołowych partii wyznaczono obszary przewagi Platformy Obywatelskiej oraz dwa rodzaje obszarów o przewadze poparcia Prawa i Sprawiedliwości, a na podstawie analizy składowych głównych – 8 typów elektoralnych powiatów. Określono też rolę kobiet-kandydatek na posłanki w czterech okręgach wyborczych województwa oraz oceniono ich pozycję w wyborach w okręgu nr 36 (Kalisz) w przekroju 13 powiatów. Podjęto również symulację podziału 40 mandatów poselskich w województwie na podstawie wyników wyborów do Sejmu w różnych układach organizacyjno-terytorialnych

Miejsca nagłej śmierci w Poznaniu – ich typologia i formy upamiętnienia

W artykule przedstawiono typologię i formy upamiętniania miejsc nagłej śmierci w Poznaniu na podstawie inwentaryzacji tych miejsc przeprowadzonej w latach 2016–2017. Typologii miejsc nagłej śmierci dokonano w oparciu o 4 kryteria: (1) formę upamiętnienia miejsca wypadku, (2) położenia miejsca pamięci względem kategorii dróg publicznych, (3) położenia względem centrum miasta oraz (4) położenia w układzie wertykalnym miasta. Z uwagi na pierwsze kryterium przeprowadzono szerszą charakterystykę tych miejsc. W przestrzeni publicznej Poznania wyróżniono aż 12 form upamiętnienia miejsc nagłej śmierci, z których znicze, przydrożne krzyże i kwiaty występują najczęściej, natomiast rzadkim sposobem upamiętnienia zmarłego w miejscu wypadku jest biały rower

W artykule podjęto próbę określenia natężenia i częstotliwości odwiedzeń cmentarza na Miłostowie jako największej poznańskiej nekropolii, a także wyznaczenia zasięgu jego oddziaływania na podstawie miejsca zamieszkania odwiedzających cmentarz oraz wskazania motywów odwiedzeń przestrzeni sepulkralnej, którymi kierują się podróżujący do takich właśnie miejsc. Podstawą analiz były przede wszystkim wyniki badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych wśród 300 osób, jak również zebrane w drodze pomiaru bezpośredniego dane statystyczne dotyczące natężenia ruchu pieszych wchodzących na cmentarz

Frontier marketplaces as a shrinking form of the spatial organisation of retail trade in Cieszyn

The paper presents changes that have taken place at the cross-border market­places in Cieszyn, with a particular emphasis on two of them, located in Łyska and Katowicka Streets. Since the end of the 1990s, they have been gradually shrinking both in terms of the number of consumers and the number of stalls. Nevertheless, they still constitute one of the most important forms of commercial activity in Cieszyn.W artykule przedstawiono zmiany, jakie zaszły na przygranicznych targowiskach w Cieszynie, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem bazarów przy al. Łyska i ul. Katowickiej. Od końca lat 90. XX wieku ulegają one stopniowemu kurczeniu się zarówno pod względem liczby konsumentów, jak i liczby stanowisk handlowych. Mimo to nadal stanowią jedną z ważniejszych form działalności handlowych prowadzonych w Cieszynie

Osie rywalizacji w wyborach do Sejmu w województwie wielkopolskim w XXI w.: wybrane zagadnienia

The study aims to characterise changes in political orientations in the Wielkopolska Province electorate, from the 2001 to the 2019 Sejm elections. The research also analyses the rivalry between the main political parties – Law and Justice (PiS) and Civic Platform (PO, or its ally Civic Coalition (KO) in 2019) in 2007–2019, as well as the transgression of the supremacy of PiS voters. An attempt was also made to define the role of women candidates for MPs in the 2015 and 2019 elections. Finally, the electoral behaviour in certain types of special circuits was presented. The rivalry between the two main parties in Wielkopolska Province led to the spread of the supremacy of Law and Justice over Civic Platform. The only barrier to its domination in 2019 was highly urbanised areas (Poznań city and Poznań county), counties located to the west of this area and the medium city of Leszno. This territorial rivalry took the form of a diffusion and transgressive process of support for Law and Justice in the analysed period. The highest level of support for PiS in relation to those eligible to vote was in the five poviats of this party’s original nucleus in Wielkopolska Province alongside other territorial and administrative units in the eastern part of the region. Support for female candidates for deputies in the elections to the Sejm in Wielkopolska Province in 2015–2019 rose slightly in the region, although the strategies for supporting women by different parties in individual constituencies changed. While in 2015 the greatest support for the female candidate was obtained in district no. 36 (Kalisz – the south-eastern part of the province), in 2019 women competing in district no. 39 (Poznań) were the most successful.Celem opracowania jest charakterystyka zmian orientacji politycznych w elektoracie województwa wielkopolskiego w wyborach do Sejmu w latach 2001–2019. Rozwinięciem podjętych badań jest analiza rywalizacji między głównymi ugrupowaniami politycznymi – Prawem i Sprawiedliwością (PiS) oraz Platformą Obywatelską (lub jej mutacją Komitetem Obywatelskim w 2019 r.) w latach 2007–2019, jak również transgresja supremacji głosujących na PiS. Poza tym podjęto badania rywalizacji w innych płaszczyznach: (a) poprzez określenie roli kobiet-kandydatek na posłanki w wyborach 2015 i 2019 r. oraz (b) ukazanie zachowań elektoralnych w niektórych rodzajach obwodów specjalnych

Kobiety w drodze do Sejmu w latach 2007–2019: analiza z perspektywy geograficzno-elektoralnej

The exclusion of women from civil and political rights in the first half of the 20th century, albeit partial, also concerned countries with developed democracies, such as France, the United States, Belgium and Switzerland. Right after the revival of its statehood in 1918, Poland – just as some other newly developed countries in Europe – granted women universal suffrage. The study aims to show the political activity of women in terms of their participation in the Sejm (Polish parliament) elections between 2007 and 2019, which is nearly a century after establishing their civil rights. From the geographical and electoral point of view, it is important to characterise a spatial variability of selected aspects of women’s electoral activity (four indicators) and determine mechanisms affecting changes in this field. Given the most popular indicator for women’s electoral activity, i.e., the percentage of seats they won in the Sejm, one may recognise that the political participation of women in this area in the years 2007–2019 was progressive. However, when analysing other indicators presented in this work, it may be stated that changes in women’s electoral activity are more complex. After introducing the quota rule, it became obvious that the number of female candidates on electoral lists increased from 23.0% in 2007 to as much as 43.6% in 2011, but it dropped, admittedly slightly, in the subsequent elections. On the other hand, the proportion of the votes gained by women peaked in 2015, reaching 32.4%, and in the next elections in 2019, it decreased a little to 31.6%. The electoral possibilities of women are also evidenced by an indicator of their relative efficacy. Countrywide, this indicator did not exceed the value of one in any of the analysed elections, which means that men are more effective in obtaining votes. In terms of spatial variability, women’s electoral activity in the discussed range of topics does not exhibit durability by constituencies. Only a few of the voting districts have lasting above-average electoral properties (although these also fluctuated up and down sometimes) at national level. Thus, it seems that spatial variability was formed by short-term electoral strategies of political parties (the movement of candidates from one constituency to another, ignoring the territorial origins of the candidates, promotion of more popular parliament members to the European Parliament) rather than by socio-cultural and economic factors typical of those constituencies.Polska tuż po odrodzeniu państwowości w 1918 r. przyznała powszechne prawo wyborcze kobietom.
