Time ā€“ dependent inhibition of electric eel ache induced by chlorpyrifos

    Get PDF
The aim of the work was to investigate the influence of contact time between acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and chlorpyrifos, on the sensitivity of earlier developed AChE based bioanalytical method for detection and determination of organophosphates in water samples. The IC50 values were obtained from the concentration- dependent responses of AChE activity to chlorpyrifos and they decreased with the increasing the contact time. The results indicated that the sensitivity of AChE based bioassay can be improved by increasing the time of incubation, but this comes at the expense of additional analysis time. In addition, the inhibition parameters of chlorpyrifos induced inhibition of AChE were determined.Physical chemistry 2008 : 9th international conference on fundamental and applied aspects of physical chemistry; Belgrade (Serbia); 24-28 September 200

    Mothers of Pipelines

AbstractWe present a method for pipeline verification using SMT solvers. It is based on a non-deterministic ā€œmother pipelineā€ machine (MOP) that abstracts the instruction set architecture (ISA). The MOP vs. ISA correctness theorem splits naturally into a large number of simple subgoals. This theorem reduces proving the correctness of a given pipelined implementation of the ISA to verifying that each of its transitions can be modeled as a sequence of MOP state transitions

Purpose: To evaluate toxicological risks for workers who are exposed to lead in their work environment. Methods: Since it is an important indicator of toxicological risk, a statistical analysis of lead concentration and biological lead toxicity markers in blood and urine were performed for both exposed and control groups. Both experimental groups consisted of employees from "NISSAL" JSC factory. Analytical epidemiological method in the form of a retrospective cohort study was applied, and covered the period from 2001 to 2010. The concentration of lead, Ī“-aminolevulinic acid, and coproporphyrin in biological samples were determined by spectrophotometric methods. Results: The results showed a high positive correlation between lead concentrations in blood and urine and the length of exposure of the participants (p < 0.01). Also, increase of lead concentration in the biological material significantly increased Ī“-aminolevulinic acid (p < 0.01) and slightly increased the concentration of coproporphyrin, both of which are important indicators of toxicological risk. Conclusion: The control group of employees belonged to the normal risk category, while the exposed group belonged to a moderate risk category. Correlation between the monitored parameters is statistically significant at p < 0.01 and p < 0.05. Keywords: Lead, Ī“-Aminolevulinic acid, Coproporphyrin, Chronic exposure, Toxicity, Correlatio

Sugar beet root rot has severely occurred in our country recently, especially in localities of Pazova, Pećinci, Ruma, Sremska Mitrovica and Å id. From diseased roots as well as from soil collected from the localities where decay occurred, fungal isolates were obtained by bait plant method. Based on their characteristics, they were identified as multinucleate Rhizoctonia sp. During the year of 2004 in Mitrosrem trial field T-11, where the presence of multinucleate Rhizoctonia sp. was confirmed, an experiment under the coordination of Committee for Acknowledgement and Registration of New Cultivars in our country was conducted in order to determine cultivars' tolerance, i.e. their susceptibility and possibility for growing on infested fields. Six cultivars of sugar beet, Laetitia (as standard) and five new ones were included in the investigation. The trial was conducted in accordance with the established and accepted method (Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Resources, Republic of Serbia). Susceptibility of investigated cultivars was evaluated according to significant production characteristics root yield, sugar content, corrected sugar content, thick juice Q, molasses sugar, content of K, Na and amino-N, polarized sugar yield and white sugar yield, as it was recommended by the method. Conducted investigations have revealed that tested sugar beet cultivars showed different reactions to natural infection with multinucleate Rhizoctonia sp. Concerning root yield as the most important agricultural characteristic, statistically significantly higher yield was obtained with the cultivar under code mark 5 (61.120 kg/ha) whereas the cultivar marked under code 6 had significantly lower yield comparing to the standard (38.100 kg/ha).Poslednjih godina uočeno je masovno propadanje Å”ećerne repe u naÅ”oj zemlji i to u lokalitetima Pazove, Pećinaca, Rume, Sremske Mitrovice i Å ida. Osetljivost ispitivanih sorti ocenjivana je na osnovu značajnih proizvodnih osobina: prinos korena, polarizacija, korigovani sadržaj Å”ećera Q gustog soka, sadržaja sećera u melasi, sadržaja K, Na i amino N, prinos polarizacionog Å”ećera i prinos kristalnog Å”ećera, kako to metoda i zahteva.

This paper presents the results of studies on the effects of suppression of chronic pain by currents with low (TENS), medium (Intf) and high (MT) frequencies, in dogs with ankylosing spondilytis. Prior to imaging diagnostics the dogs were clinically observed, trias was estimated, as well as habitus, neurological signs and degree of pain. After a 10 day treatment it was clear that all three treatments resulted in a significant decrease of pain at rest, during activity or during palpation. TENS currents have shown the highest degree of effect. All treated animals have shown improved motility after a few months of therapy. Despite the fact that all animals had an improved clinical picture none of the applied currents resulted in a complete loss of limping. Dogs treated with Intf currents displayed a decrease in muscular atrophy. Motility of the coxofemoural joint was most evident in the group treated with microwaves.U radu su prikazana ispitivanja supresije hroničnog bola pod uticajem struja niske (TENS), srednje (Intf) i visoke (MT) frekvence, kod pasa sa ankilozirajućim spondilitisom. Iako je u svakoj grupi ispitivanih jedinki doÅ”lo do poboljÅ” anja stanja, ni jedan terapijski postupak nije doveo do potpunog gubitka hromosti.

Consumption of bivalve molluscs, such as oysters, mussels, clams and scallops, makes a significant part of the daily Korean diet. Bivalves provide high quality proteins with all the dietary-essential amino acids, lipids, vitamins, minerals and other bioactive nutrients, which offer a variety of health benefits to the consumer [1]. This food contains less than 5 percent of total fat, so it is considered a low-fat food. Beside the amount of total fat, the proportions of saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids (FA) (S, M and P, respectively), as well as ratio of n-3 (Ļ‰-3) and n-6 (Ļ‰-6) P in food are very important for the health diet [2]. Fourteen species of bivalves Anadara broughtonii (AB), Ruditapes philippinarum (Manila clam (RP)), Tegillarca granosa (TG), Pecten yessoensis (Yesso scallop (YS), Argopecten spp. (small scallop (SS), Chlamys farreri farreri (CF), Cyclina sinensis (CS), Leukoma jedoensis (LJ), Mytilus califorianus (MCa) Mytilus galloprovancialis (MG), Maretrix lusoria (ML), Mactra quadrangularis (MQ), Sinovacula constricta (SC) and Crassostrea gigas (Pacific oyster (PC)) were bought in two fish markets in Incheon, Korea, in order to determine FA composition using GC/EI-MS of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME). The FAME were identified by comparing their retention times with those of the FAME standards or by comparing their mass spectra with those stored in the NIST Mass Spectral Library. In the bivalve samples, 43 different FA were identified, of which 10 were S, 12 M and 13 P, other FA were 7 methyl-FA and 1 hydroxyl-FA. The P/S ratio and Ļ‰-6/Ļ‰-3 P ratio are the most significant markers of lipid composition in a healthy diet and both should be close to 1 [3]. Among analysed species, only YS and SS have P/S ratio close to 1 (1,20 and 1.16, respectively), while other species have value between 0.07 and 0.73. The obtained values for Ļ‰-6/Ļ‰-3 P ratio were from 0.008 to 0.55, which indicates that bivalve molluscs are the valuable source of Ļ‰-3 P (EPA and DHA). These Ļ‰-3 P play important roles in growth, development, and maintenance of health

Fractional Calculus Model of Electrical Impedance Applied to Human Skin

Fractional calculus is a mathematical approach dealing with derivatives and integrals of arbitrary and complex orders. Therefore, it adds a new dimension to understand and describe basic nature and behavior of complex systems in an improved way. Here we use the fractional calculus for modeling electrical properties of biological systems. We derived a new class of generalized models for electrical impedance and applied them to human skin by experimental data fitting. The primary model introduces new generalizations of: 1) Weyl fractional derivative operator, 2) Cole equation, and 3) Constant Phase Element (CPE). These generalizations were described by the novel equation which presented parameter (beta) related to remnant memory and corrected four essential parameters (R-0, R-infinity, alpha, tau(alpha)). We further generalized single generalized element by introducing specific partial sum of Maclaurin series determined by parameters (beta(*), gamma, delta ...). We defined individual primary model elements and their serial combination models by the appropriate equations and electrical schemes. Cole equation is a special case of our generalized class of models for beta* = gamma = delta = ... = 0. Previous bioimpedance data analyses of living systems using basic Cole and serial Cole models show significant imprecisions. Our new class of models considerably improves the quality of fitting, evaluated by mean square errors, for bioimpedance data obtained from human skin. Our models with new parameters presented in specific partial sum of Maclaurin series also extend representation, understanding and description of complex systems electrical properties in terms of remnant memory effects
