    Internal quality evolution of a large test system–an industrial study

    This paper presents our empirical observations related to the evolution of a large automated test system. The system observed is used in the industry as a test tool for complex telecommunication systems, itself consisting of more than one million lines of source code. This study evaluates how different changes during the development have changed the number of observed Code Smells in the test system.     This paper examines how ISO/IEC 9126-1 and ISO/IEC 25010 quality models can be applied to software testing products in industrial environment. We present a set of code smells for test systems written in TTCN-3 and their categorization according to quality model standards. We demonstrate our measurements on industrial and ETSI projects, and provide a method for estimating their effects on product risks in current projects

    HABITS OF COMMUNICATION OF INTERNET USERS

    This report is about a small scale study where frequent Internet users´ habits of communication (in the use of the Internet and mobile phone systems) in Hungary were investigated with questionnaires that were made accessible via the Internet. The results show that among the frequent Internet users the `dependent´ and `alienated´ types of usage are not characteristic. The latter one can be markedly distinguished from other intense use of the net. Among the intense users of the Internet email has become the prevailing tool of communication compared to other means. The anxiety of people who thought the lack of authentication dangerous has not proved true: methods develop among the users to check the trustworthiness of the source. The employers´ concerns seem to be supported, however, to the effect that employees, when they have the opportunity, do gladly resort to forms of communication by which they can discretely tend to their private matters

    Worst case bin packing for OTN electrical layer networks dimensioning

    The OTN (Optical Transport Network) standard, defined by ITU-T Recommendation G.709 and G.872, contains a flexible digital hierarchy of ODU (Optical Data Unit) signals. The ODU hierarchy provides sub-wavelength grooming in OTN networks, which is necessary for efficient utilization of the high bit rates of optical channels. When dimensioning the links of a transport network consisting of ODU switches, the packing of lower order ODU signals into higher order ODU signals needs to be taken into account. These networks are expected to be controlled by GMPLS (Generalized MPLS) , which puts specific constraints on the dimensioning. We assume that there is no explicit label control and that the GMPLS control plane is using first-fit strategy for making reservations on a link . With these assumptions the link dimensioning problem is defined as deciding how many higher order ODU component links are required on an OTN GMPLS bundled link for first-fit packing of a given set of lower order ODU demands, in any order of arrival. The paper provides strict bounds for ODU hierarchy-specific item and bin sizes. Then, it introduces an extended variant of the dimensioning problem, when lower order ODU connections which are not controlled by GMPLS are also present

    Continuous Manufacturing of Homogeneous Ultralow-Dose Granules by Twin-Screw Wet Granulation

    Homogeneous ultralow-dose (30 mg) tablets were prepared from perfectly free-flowing granules manufactured by continuous Twin-Screw Wet Granulation. The gravimetrically fed mixture of lactose and potato starch of low particle size was successfully agglomerated and the size enlargement technology proved to be very robust. Since the incorporated drug was dissolved in ethanol-based granulation liquid, the resulting homogeneity largely depended on the dosing of the applied liquid administering units.A peristaltic pump generated higher deviation of the drug content in tablets (Relative Standard Deviation (RSD): 7.7 %) compared to a syringe pump (RSD: 2.3 %) or a piston pump (RSD: 4.6 %). This is due to the pulsation of the liquid flow generated by the peristaltic pump according to the real-time measured mass of the fed liquid. A good correlation was found between the RSD of the liquid mass flow (calculated from the recorded masses) and the RSD of the drug content. Based on the results, the goodness of Content Uniformity, as the most relevant critical quality attribute of low-dose products, was determined by the characteristics of the applied dosing units. The feeding characteristic of the different pumps could be easily measured by the introduced balance-based method and therefore, the applicability of the pumps could be evaluated

    Clinicopathological Features and Prognosis of Pregnancy Associated Breast Cancer – A Matched Case Control Study

    Pregnancy Associated Breast Cancer (PABC) manifests during pregnancy or within a year following delivery. We sought to investigate differences in management, outcome, clinical, histopathology and immunohistochemistry (IHC) characteristics of PABC and matched controls in a retrospective case control study. PABC and control patients were selected from breast cancer cases of women </=45 years, diagnosed in the 2nd Department of Pathology, Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary between 1998 and 2012. Histopathology information on tumor type, grade, size, T, N, lympho-vascular invasion (LVI), Nottingham Prognostic Index (NPI), associated in situ lesions and IHC charcteristics: ER, PgR, HER2, Ki67, p53 were recorded, IHC-based subtype was assessed, clinical, management and outcome data were analysed. Thirty-one breast cancer cases were pregnancy related. Clinical management data did not differ in cases and controls. Histopathology of disease at presentation was not significantly different, but NPI assessed the PABC group as having poor, whereas controls as having intermediate prognosis. Associated in situ lesion was more often high grade Extensive Intraductal Carcinoma Component (EIC) in PABC. Triple negative and LuminalB prol tumors predominated in PABC. Disease-free and overall survival was inferior compared to controls. PABC patients with LuminalB prol and Triple negative tumors had inferior outcomes. On multivariate analysis inferior prognosis of PABC was associated with pregnancy. Our study has demonstrated inferior outcome of PABC. Difference in tumor biology is reflected by the predominance of triple negative and LuminalB tumors in PABC. The strength of the study is the analysis of complete pathology and IHC data

    The psychological consequences of the ecological crisis: Three new questionnaires to assess eco-anxiety, eco-guilt, and ecological grief

    As climate change develops reactions such as eco-anxiety, eco-guilt and ecological grief are becoming increasingly common. Our aim was to develop questionnaires to assess these psychological consequences, and to examine their relationship with pro-environmental behavior (PEB). Items of the questionnaires were generated based on literature review and the qualitative analysis of semi-structured interviews (N = 17). The first item pool was administered to a large adult sample (N = 4608) along with assessing PEB. The Eco-Guilt Questionnaire (EGuiQ-11) and the Ecological Grief Questionnaire (EGriQ-6) each had a one-factor structure, while the Eco-Anxiety Questionnaire (EAQ-22) consisted of two factors: habitual ecological worry and the negative consequences of eco-anxiety. The factors were positively associated with PEB. The questionnaires had a robust factor structure, and they are suitable for the assessment of a wide range of negative emotional states related to climate change and the ecological crisis. Our results indicate the possible utility of negative emotions in reinforcing PEB

    First record of the spider family Hersiliidae (Araneae) from the Mesozoic of Europe (Bakony Mts, Hungary)

    An adult male Hersiliidae spider is described from amber that originates from the Upper Cretaceous (Santonian) Ajka Coal Formation (Ajka-Csingervölgy, Hungary), the so-called ajkaite. The spider has elongate posterior spinnerets and a short third pair of legs III, both characteristics of the family, but differs from all known Mesozoic (discovered in burmite) and fossil and Recent European representatives of Hersiliidae so that a new genus and species name is proposed for Hungarosilia verdesi gen. et sp. nov. The new taxon is distinguishable by the following unique combination of characters: pro- and opisthosoma nearly circular in dorsal view; posterior spinnerets with a distal article more than three times longer than the basal article; pedipalpal tibia and patella short and stout but pedipalpal femur as long as the cymbium, cymbium egg-shaped and without cymbial apophysis; bulbus of circular shape in ventral view and slightly flattened is lateral view. The fossil represents the first record of Hersiliidae from the Mesozoic of Europe and establishes the second record of this family in the Mesozoic Era. The estimated paleoclimate and paleoflora of the Ajka coal sub-basin correspond well with habitat preferences of Recent relatives that are often arborical and found in association with tree bark. Overall, our findings highlight the importance of a neglected amber type, the ajkaite, for documenting and studying the European arthropod fauna during the Mesozoic

    Herpesvirus-mediated delivery of a genetically encoded fluorescent Ca2+ sensor to canine cardiomyocytes

    We report the development and application of a pseudorabies virus-based system for delivery of troponeon, a fluorescent Ca2+ sensor to adult canine cardiomyocytes. The efficacy of transduction was assessed by calculating the ratio of fluorescently labelled and nonlabelled cells in cell culture. Interaction of the virus vector with electrophysiological properties of cardiomyocytes was evaluated by the analysis of transient outward current (Ito), kinetics of the intracellular Ca2+ transients, and cell shortening. Functionality of transferred troponeon was verified by FRET analysis. We demonstrated that the transfer efficiency of troponeon to cultured adult cardiac myocytes was virtually 100%. We showed that even after four days neither the amplitude nor the kinetics of the Ito current was significantly changed and no major shifts occurred in parameters of [Ca2+]i transients. Furthermore, we demonstrated that infection of cardiomyocytes with the virus did not affect the morphology, viability, and physiological attributes of cells
