Analysis of Yelp Reviews
In the era of Big Data and Social Computing, the role of customer reviews and
ratings can be instrumental in predicting the success and sustainability of
businesses. In this paper, we show that, despite the apparent subjectivity of
user ratings, there are also external, or objective factors which help to
determine the outcome of a business's reviews. The current model for social
business review sites, such as Yelp, allows data (reviews, ratings) to be
compiled concurrently, which introduces a bias to participants (Yelp Users).
Our work examines Yelp Reviews for businesses in and around college towns. We
demonstrate that an Observer Effect causes data to behave cyclically: rising
and falling as momentum (quantified in user ratings) shifts for businesses.Comment: 24 pages, 20 figures and 5 table
On k-EP matrices
AbstractThe concept of k-EP matrix is introduced. Relations between k-EP and EP matrices are discussed. Necessary and sufficient conditions are determined for a matrix to be k-EPr
Variation in the Biomolecular Interactions of Nickel(Ii) Hydrazone Complexes Upon Tuning the Hydrazide Fragment
Three new bivalent nickel hydrazone complexes have been synthesised from the reactions of [NiCl2(PPh3)(2)] with H2L {L = dianion of the hydrazones derived from the condensation of o-hydroxynaphthaldehyde with furoic acid hydrazide (H2L1) (1)/thiophene-2-acid hydrazide (H2L2) (2)/isonicotinic acid hydrazide (H2L3) (3)} and formulated as [Ni(L-1)(PPh3)] (4), [Ni(L-2)(PPh3)] (5) and [Ni(L-3)(PPh3)] (6). Structural characterization of these compounds 4-6 were accomplished by using various physico-chemical techniques. Single crystal X-ray diffraction data of complexes 4 and 5 proved their distorted square planar geometry. In order to ascertain the potential of the above synthesised compounds towards biomolecular interactions, additional experiments involving interaction with calf thymus DNA (CT DNA) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) were carried out. All the ligands and corresponding nickel(II) chelates have been screened for their scavenging effect towards O-2(-), OH and NO radicals. The efficiency of complexes 4-6 to arrest the growth of HeLa, HepG-2 and A431 tumour cell lines has been studied along with the cell viability test against the non-cancerous NIH 3T3 cells under in vitro conditions.University Grants Commission, New Delhi under the UGC-SAP-DRSRobert A. DELAMINATION PREDICTION IN DRILLING OF CFRP COMPOSITES USING ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK
Carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) materials play a major role in the applications of aeronautic, aerospace, sporting and transportation industries. Machining is indispensible and hence drilling of CFRP materials is considered in this present study with respect to spindle speed in rpm, drill size in mm and feed in mm/min. Delamination is one of the major defects to be dealt with. The experiments are carried out using computer numerical control machine and the results are applied to an artificial neural network (ANN) for the prediction of delamination factor at the exit plane of the CFRP material. It is found that ANN model predicts the delamination for any given set of machining parameters with a maximum error of 0.81% and a minimum error of 0.03%. Thus an ANN model is highly suitable for the prediction of delamination in CFRP materials
Combined Lab-on-a-Chip and microarray approach for biomolecular interaction sensing using surface plasmon resonance imaging
Surface plasmon resonance imaging (SPR) is a well-established label-free detection technique for real-time biomolecular interaction measurements. An integrated LOC sensing system with fluidic control for sample movement to specific locations on microarray surface in combination with SPR imaging is demonstrated by the measurements of human IgG and anti-IgG interactions from 24 patterned regions.\u
