The dynamics and control of large flexible space structures-IV

    Get PDF
The effects of solar radiation pressure as the main environmental disturbance torque were incorporated into the model of the rigid orbiting shallow shell and computer simulation results indicate that within the linear range the rigid modal amplitudes are excited in proportion to the area to mass ratio. The effect of higher order terms in the gravity-gradient torque expressions previously neglected was evaluated and found to be negligible for the size structures under consideration. A graph theory approach was employed for calculating the eigenvalues of a large flexible system by reducing the system (stiffness) matrix to lower ordered submatrices. The related reachability matrix and term rank concepts are used to verify controllability and can be more effective than the alternate numerical rank tests. Control laws were developed for the shape and orientation control of the orbiting flexible shallow shell and numerical results presented

Background: Tennis elbow is one of most common conditions found in athletes involved in upper limb sports. It has been reported that local injection of autologous blood in tennis elbow offers significant benefit by providing the necessary cellular and humoral mediators to induce a healing cascade. The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy of autologous blood injection in the treatment of tennis elbow. Methods: 30 consecutive patients involved in upper limb sports and suffering from tennis elbow for more than 3 months duration not responsive to oral medication or other non-invasive treatment were given local injection of 2 ml autologous blood. Patients were assessed using the visual analogue scale (VAS) for pain and Nirschl scores before giving injection and at 1, 4, 8 and 12 weeks also at 6 and 9 months, repeat injection was given at 8 weeks if pain persisted. Results: After Autologous blood injection (ABI) at 4 weeks there is significant (P <0.001) decrease in VAS pain score and Nirschl score. Though VAS pain score and Nirschl stage continued to improve after 8 weeks, but statistically not significant. Conclusions: Autologous blood injection significantly improved clinical function and pain scores in patients with chronic tennis elbow who had previously undergone unsuccessful non-invasive treatment.

A whale baby female sperm whale, Physeter macrocephakis Linnaeus measuring 3.71 m and weighing about 700 kg was stranded on18th December, 1988 at Samnathanpettai near Nagapattinam . Another sperm whale was found dead and washed ashore at Vizhunthamavadi near Nagapattinam on 18th January, 1991. The stranded sperm whale was an young female of 9.70 m weighing about 5 tonnes and estimated to be around five years old

Improvement of Mechanical, Thermal and Optical Properties of Barium Mixed Cobalt Tartrate Hydrate Crystals Grown by Gel Method

In this present work, CTH and BCTH crystals have been prepared by gel technique by using single diffusion method at room temperature. The as grown crystals were characterized by using XRD, FT-IR, UV, TG / DTA and Micro hardness studies. X-ray powder diffraction results analyzed by using suitable software suggest that a CTH and BCTH crystals belong to cubic crystal system. The unit cell volume is observed to increase with increase in the concentration of barium in cobalt tartrate due to the lattice distortion. The band gap and optical properties have analyzed by UV-Visible spectrum. The functional groups and compound formation of the crystals have been studied by FT-IR spectrum. The mechanical properties of the grown crystals were tested by using Vicker’s microhardness studies. The work hardening coefficient (n) was determined to be 3.7 for CTH, 5.3 for BCTH (1 : 1) and 6.4 for BCTH (2 : 1) and the stiffness constants for different loads were calculated and reported. Thermal analysis suggests that pure cobalt tartrate starts decomposing at 73.2 C whereas the barium mixed cobalt tartrate brings about better thermal stability which increases with an increase in barium concentration

Critical Crossover Between Yosida-Kondo Dominant Regime and Magnetic Frustration Dominant Regime in the System of a Magnetic Trimer on a Metal Surface

Quantum Monte Carlo simulations were carried out for the system of a magnetic trimer on a metal surface. The magnetic trimer is arranged in two geometric configurations, viz., isosceles and equilateral triangles. The calculated spectral density and magnetic susceptibility show the existence of two phases: Yosida-Kondo dominant phase and magnetic frustration dominant phase. Furthermore, a critical transition between these two phases can be induced by changing the configuration of the magnetic trimers from isosceles to equilateral triangle.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures; accepted for publication in J. Exactly solvable toy models of unconventional magnetic alloys: Bethe Ansatz versus Renormalization Group method

We propose toy models of unconventional magnetic alloys, in which the density of band states, ρ(ϵ)\rho(\epsilon), and hybridization, t(ϵ)t(\epsilon), are energy dependent; it is assumed, however, that t2(ϵ)ρ1(ϵ)t^2(\epsilon)\propto\rho^{-1}(\epsilon), and hence an effective electron-impurity coupling Γ(ϵ)=ρ(ϵ)t2(ϵ)\Gamma(\epsilon)=\rho(\epsilon)t^2(\epsilon) is energy independent. In the renormalization group approach, the physics of the system is assumed to be governed by Γ(ϵ)\Gamma(\epsilon) only rather than by separate forms of ρ(ϵ)\rho(\epsilon) and t(ϵ)t(\epsilon). However, an exact Bethe Ansatz solution of the toy Anderson model demonstrates a crucial role of a form of inverse band dispersion k(ϵ)k(\epsilon).Comment: A final version. Transgressive segregation in the population of IIHR-31-1-2 x Arka Anamika BC3 F1-F6 generations led to the development of, various novel characters such as, ridgeless fruits (round fruit) and enhanced nodal productivity bearing short internodal length in okra selection-1, which was found to be promising for cultivation with high yield and good fruit quality. It can be grown both during Kharif and summer seasons. Okra selection-1 was also found to exhibit smooth fruits, high yield potential with sturdy plant habit and field tolerance to fusarium wilt and YVMV. Due to rapid rate of increase of processing in okra by freezing and canning, Okra selection I may be an ideal fruit type for freezing because of its short, smooth, dark green and round or multifaceted fruits with low mucilage content
