Crop-phenology and LANDSAT-based irrigated lands inventory in the high plains
Optimal LANDSAT image dates for 1980 were identified based on the weekly crop-weather reports for Colorado, New Mexico, South Dakota, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and Wyoming. The 1979 agricultural statistics data were entered into computer files and a revised questionnaire was developed and mailed to ASCS county agents. A set of computer programs was developed to allow the preparation of computer-assisted graphic displays of much of the collected data
Crop phenology and LANDSAT-based irrigated lands inventory in the high plains
The activity concentrated on identifying crop and irrigation data sources for the eight states within the High Plains Aquifer and making contacts concerning the nature of these data. A mail questionnaire was developed to gather specific data not routinely reported through standard data collection channels. Input/output routines were designed for High Plains crop and irrigation data and initial statistical data on crops were input to computer files
Screening of high risk infants for metabolic disease in a metropolitan hospital
Screening of symptomatic infants for metabolic diseases is described which led to an improved detection rate because of better awareness and case selection, as well as the use of a test for urinary organic acids.Peer Reviewedhttps://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/147121/1/jimd0081.pd
Parameterized optimized effective potential for the ground state of the atoms He through Xe
Parameterized orbitals expressed in Slater-type basis obtained within the
optimized effective potential framework as well as the parameterization of the
potential are reported for the ground state of the atoms He through Xe. The
total, kinetic, exchange and single particle energies are given for each atom.Comment: 47 pages, 1 figur
Entwicklung eines regionalen Ausbildungsmodells âĂkolandbau und Vermarktungâ an der Fachhochschule Eberswalde im Rahmen des Bundesförderprogramms Regionen Aktiv
In September 2004 a new B. Sc. study course for Organic Farming and Marketing started at the University of Applied Sciences Eberswalde. Supported by the Federal Ministry of Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture program âRegionen Aktivâ an innovative education model was established. Focussing on rural development farmers, processors and trading partners were involved in the development of topics for the study programme
Damaging de novo mutations diminish motor skills in children on the autism spectrum
In individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), de novo mutations have previously been shown to be significantly correlated with lower IQ but not with the core characteristics of ASD: deficits in social communication and interaction and restricted interests and repetitive patterns of behavior. We extend these findings by demonstrating in the Simons Simplex Collection that damaging de novo mutations in ASD individuals are also significantly and convincingly correlated with measures of impaired motor skills. This correlation is not explained by a correlation between IQ and motor skills. We find that IQ and motor skills are distinctly associated with damaging mutations and, in particular, that motor skills are a more sensitive indicator of mutational severity than is IQ, as judged by mutational type and target gene. We use this finding to propose a combined classification of phenotypic severity: mild (little impairment of either), moderate (impairment mainly to motor skills), and severe (impairment of both IQ and motor skills)
Theory of Coherent Time-dependent Transport in One-dimensional Multiband Semiconductor Superlattices
We present an analytical study of one-dimensional semiconductor superlattices
in external electric fields, which may be time-dependent. A number of general
results for the (quasi)energies and eigenstates are derived. An equation of
motion for the density matrix is obtained for a two-band model, and the
properties of the solutions are analyzed. An expression for the current is
obtained. Finally, Zener-tunneling in a two-band tight-binding model is
considered. The present work gives the background and an extension of the
theoretical framework underlying our recent Letter [J. Rotvig {\it et al.},
Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 74}, 1831 (1995)], where a set of numerical simulations
were presented.Comment: 15 pages, Revtex 3.0, uses epsf, 2 ps figures attache
Parameterized optimized effective potential for atoms
The optimized effective potential equations for atoms have been solved by
parameterizing the potential. The expansion is tailored to fulfill the known
asymptotic behavior of the effective potential at both short and long
distances. Both single configuration and multi configuration trial wave
functions are implemented. Applications to several atomic systems are presented
improving previous works. The results here obtained are very close to those
calculated in either the Hartree-Fock and the multi configurational
Hartree-Fock framework.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure
Selection of a New Highly Resistant Strain for Malolactic Fermentation under Difficult Conditions
Malolactic fermentation (MLF) is a biological process that contributes to wine quality, but it is frequently affectedby various vinification conditions. Resistance to four wine-limiting factors was studied with respect to 10 Oenococcusoeni strains in order to select a suitable strain for performing reliable MLF in difficult wines. Resistance to lowfermentation temperature, high SO2 and/or ethanol concentration, and low pH were assayed in laboratory tests. Apool of the most resistant strains was used in a set of laboratory MLFs. At the end of fermentation, the dominantstrains were identified by RAPD-PCR. The PN4 strain was found to be dominant in the majority of cases and underthe most detrimental wine conditions, and it was therefore chosen as the single-strain inoculum for the subsequentMLF trials. The effectiveness of the PN4 strain was confirmed in a series of MLFs carried out in three differentcountries under experimental and industrial conditions. It accomplished MLF in wines with up to 15.8% ethanol,pH as low as 3.0, 60 mg/L of free SO2, and in fermentation temperatures below 17ÂșC. Our findings indicate that theO. oeni PN4 strain could be an effective starter, guaranteeing regular and reliable MLF fermentation
Analysis of OPM potentials for multiplet states of 3d transition metal atoms
We apply the optimized effective potential method (OPM) to the multiplet
energies of the 3d transition metal atoms, where the orbital dependence of
the energy functional with respect to orbital wave function is the
single-configuration HF form. We find that the calculated OPM exchange
potential can be represented by the following two forms. Firstly, the
difference between OPM exchange potentials of the multiplet states can be
approximated by the linear combination of the potentials derived from the
Slater integrals and for the average
energy of the configuration. Secondly, the OPM exchange potential can be
expressed as the linear combination of the OPM exchange potentials of the
single determinants.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures, to be published in J. Phys.
