Fourier Transforms of Lorentz Invariant Functions

Fourier transforms of Lorentz invariant functions in Minkowski space, with support on both the timelike and the spacelike domains are performed by means of direct integration. The cases of 1+1 and 1+2 dimensions are worked out in detail, and the results for 1+n dimensions are given.Comment: 15 pages, 1 figur

Zero waste to landfill: An unacknowledged supermegaproject

    Get PDF
Zero Waste is a global movement focused on replacing linear resource-to-waste systems with circular systems found elsewhere in nature, and Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWtL) is a specific interpretation implying the total elimination of residual disposal. Local governments worldwide have declared ZWtL goals with specific deadlines; however, to date none of these initiatives have proven successful. A grounded case study of ZWtL campaigns was conducted to investigate this chronic failure. The results indicate that ZWtL is an unacknowledged supermegaproject: requiring extremely deep and unprecedented change and sacrifice across all sectors, yet destined for failure because proponents fail to recognize the scope of the task and plan accordingly. Strategies for addressing waste upstream are critically absent, with insufficient downstream measures such as recycling the prevailing norm – reinforced by a consistent preference for technical solutions over fundamental behavior change

Personality factors and adult attachment affecting job mobility

    Get PDF
Past research has revealed that individuals' job mobility is affected by factors such as job satisfaction, specific career enhancing attributes and job availability. This study examined personality factors predicting voluntary internal and external job mobility. Three types of voluntary job mobility measures were studied: dissatisfaction changes, job improvement changes and job rotations within companies. These mobility measures were related to the Big Five personality factors, sensation seeking and adult attachment. Results showed that demographic variables and sensation seeking contributed to the variance in external job changes. Internal job rotations were not related to any of the demographic and personality variables

Os desafios da urbanização para a educação em saúde

Because of their rapid growth, the big urban centers contribute to increase health problems. In the city of São Paulo, one can see "the existence of a precarious health condition" when one analyses its health indicators. This is why Health Education, as a way of changing behavior patterns of the health services consummer, becomes important. It makes him concious of the problems and brings him into active participation in the health program. This is, certainly, a wide field of action which needs the Health Educator working in close association with other professionals.

Selectively excited luminescence and magnetic circular dichroism of Cr4+-doped YAG and YGG

Site selective luminescence and magnetic circular dichroism experiments on Cr4+-doped yttrium aluminum garnet and yttrium gallium garnet have been made at low temperature. The spectral assignments for these near-IR lasing materials have been made using experimental data and ligand field calculations guided by the known geometry of the lattices. [S0163-1829(99)07003-4]

Housing situation and healthcare for patients in a psychiatric centre in Berlin, Germany: a cross-sectional patient survey

OBJECTIVE: To determine the housing situation among people seeking psychiatric treatment in relation to morbidity and service utilisation. DESIGN: Cross-sectional patient survey. SETTING: Psychiatric centre with a defined catchment area in Berlin, Germany, March-September 2016. PARTICIPANTS: 540 psychiatric inpatients including day clinics (43.2% of all admitted patients in the study period (n=1251)). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Housing status 30 days prior the interview as well as influencing variables including service use, psychiatric morbidity and sociodemographic variables. RESULTS: In our survey, 327 participants (68.7%) currently rented or owned an own apartment; 62 (13.0%) reported to be homeless (living on the street or in shelters for homeless or refugees); 87 (18.3%) were accommodated in sociotherapeutic facilities. Participants without an own apartment were more likely to be male and younger and to have a lower level of education. Homeless participants were diagnosed with a substance use disorder significantly more often (74.2%). Psychotic disorders were the highest among homeless participants (29.0%). Concerning service use, we did neither find a lower utilisation of ambulatory services nor a higher utilisation of hospital-based care among homeless participants. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings underline the need for effective housing for people with mental illness. Despite many sociotherapeutic facilities, a concerning number of people with mental illness is living in homelessness. Especially early interventions addressing substance use might prevent future homelessness

The role of high-level calculations in the assignment of the Q-band spectra of chlorophyll

© 2014 AIP Publishing LLC. We recently established a novel assignment of the visible absorption spectrum of chlorophyll-a that sees the two components Qx and Qy of the low-energy Q band as being intrinsically mixed by non-adiabatic coupling. This ended 50 years debate as to the nature of the Q bands, with prior discussion poised only in the language of the Born-Oppenheimer and Condon approximations. The new assignment presents significant ramifications for exciton transport and quantum coherence effects in photosystems. Results from state of the art electronic structure calculations have always been used to justify assignments, but quantitative inaccuracies and systematic failures have historically limited usefulness. We examine the role of CAM-B3LYP time-dependent density-functional theory (TD-DFT) and Symmetry Adapted Cluster-Configuration Interaction (SAC-CI) calculations in first showing that all previous assignments were untenable, in justifying the new assignment, in making some extraordinary predictions that were vindicated by the new assignment, and in then identifying small but significant anomalies in the extensive experimental data record

The highly resolved electronic spectrum of the square planar CuCl₄²⁻ ion

The low temperature magnetic circular dichroism(MCD) and electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR)spectra of Cu(II) dopedCs₂ZrCl₆ are reported. The Cu(II) ion is incorporated as the square planar copper tetrachloride ion, CuCl₄²⁻, which substitutes at the Zr(IV) site in the Cs₂ZrCl₆ lattice, with a complete absence of axial coordination. Both the EPR and MCD show highly resolved spectra from which it is possible to determine the superhyperfine coupling constants and excited state geometries respectively. The Franck–Condon intensity patterns suggest that there is a substantial relaxation of the host lattice about the impurity ion. For the lowest energy ²B1g(x²-y²)→²B2g(xy) transition, both the magnetic dipole allowed electronic origin as well as vibronic false origins are observed. The high resolution of the spectra allowed the accurate determination of the odd parity vibrations that are active in the spectra. The opposite sign of the MCD of the two components of the ²Eg(xz,yz)excited state allows this splitting to be determined for the first time. Accurate and unambiguous spectral parameters for the CuCl₄²⁻ ion are important as it has become a benchmark transition metal complex for theoretical electronic structure calculations
