Object: The need to reduce dietary mycotoxins exposure, requires development of efficient analytical methods to assess mycotoxins level in food. The purpose of this study was to validate HPLC-UV method for patulin determination in traditional juices made of dry Guinea sorrel flowers or ginger rhizomes. Material and Methods: Patulin was extracted with ethyl acetate and purified with sodium bicarbonate solution (14 g/L). Elution of patulin was realised in isocratic mode with mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile-water (10/90 : v/v). Patulin was detected at 276 nm (UV). An amount of patulin was added to neutral portions of juices and the recovery rates were estimated after extraction. Results: The retention time was 5.03 min and the coefficient of determination of the calibration range (100 - 1500 μg/L) was 0.9994. Detection and quantification limits were respectively 1.4 μg/L and 4.6 μg/L for the two matrices. The recovery rates were 75.09 ± 0.27% and 75.27 ± 0.64% respectively for ginger and Guinea sorrel juices. Patulin was detected in 55% of ginger juice and 70% of Guinea sorrel juice. Patulin contents of 15% of ginger juice and 40% of Guinea sorrel juice were above the maximum level of patulin (50 μg/L) allowed in juices. Conclusion: This method may be used for patulin detection in these traditional juices because its recovery rates were acceptable and limit of quantification (4.6 μg/L) was largely bellow the maximum level of patulin (50 μg/L) allowed in juices. &nbsp

The public and private green spaces of the communes of Cocody and Plateau of Abidjan city are deteriorating because of lack of financial means for their maintenance. The overall objective of this study is to demonstrate the importance of payments for ecosystem services (PES) in their self-financing. To carry out this study, a survey was conducted among users of 3 public gardens in the Plateau and private garden owners in Cocody. It aimed to identify the willingness to pay (CAP) of users of public gardens for their management and to identify incentives for the creation of private gardens in their own concessions. Analysis of the data reveals a PAC in the form of visiting tax or voluntary donation ranging from 100 FCFA (0.15 €) to 2000 FCFA (3.07 €). Respondents who declare a visiting tax between 100 FCFA and 500 FCFA are the most numerous with a percentage of 92.95. Students, students and unemployed visitors are on the sidelines of visitors who refuse to pay for the management of public gardens. If we stick to the visit fees proposed by the majority of the interviewees, it would be possible to collect 79,800 FCFA (122.76 €) per day for 339,000 FCFA (521.53 €) for all 3 public gardens. With regard to the creation of private gardens, a financial subsidy mechanism could motivate the population. This study demonstrates that the introduction of payments for ecosystem services could be an incentive for the development of green spaces in urban areas

In the area of Katiola, the main part of groundwater resources is contained in the discontinuous aquifers of the paleoproterozoïc base. This study relates to the analysis of the productivity of the aquifers fissured of the area starting from an approach which takes into account the comparative analysis carried out on the one hand with the flows and physical parameters, flows and lithology, flows and transmissivity and, on the other hand an ACPN of these parameters. The various results contribute to known the hydrogeological potentialities of the area of Katiola. The depths most productive meets between 30 and 75 m. The section from 20 to 50 m of weathered material offer the best flows.67% of the flows met in the area are weak, that can be charged to the lack of studies before the establishment of the works. The most productive AE are located in the first 35 meters under the base of altérites. The schists are more productive than the granite

Monitoring of anthropogenic effects on forest ecosystems within the municipality of Valli`eres in the Republic of Haiti from 1984 to 2019

The forest resources within the municipality of Valli`eres in the Republic of Haiti are subject to ever-increasing anthropogenic pressures, leading to a reduction in their area and the degradation of their ecosystem services. This study quantified the spatial pattern changes of forest ecosystems within the municipality of Valli`eres from 1984 to 2019 using a cartographic approach coupled with landscape metrics. The evolving trend in the landscape within the municipality of Valli`eres and its sections reveals that in 35 years the area of forests land has diminished through the fragmentation of the large initial patches, as opposed to the progressive dynamics of agricultural and bare land, mainly under strain from the creation and merging of the patches. The underlying causes of the observed landscape dynamics are demographic pressure coupled with the lack of an appropriate program for the preservation of forest resources and improvement of the standard of living conditions of the local population. Our results justify the implementation of strategies to preserve the rare patches of the forests that remain, taking into account the local socio-economic context.Peer reviewe

Mapping and quantification of the loss of forest cover in the national parks of the South of the Republic of Haiti from 1985 to 2018: role of local agricultural activities

In Haiti, national parks were created to preserve the rare forests that are constantly threatened by agriculture and livestock. However, scientific studies on the landscape dynamics of forest ecosystems in Haiti’s parks have received little attention. The objective of this study is to map and quantify the loss of forest cover in the natural national parks of Forêt des Pins (PNN-FP2), La-visite (PNN-LV) and Macaya (PNN-M) from 1985 to 2018. A diachronic analysis, thanks to the supervised classification of Landsat images based on landscape ecology analysis tools, was carried out. The results show a landscape dynamic materialized by forest cover losses of 56%, 36% and 46% respectively within the PNN-FP2, PNN-LV and PNN-M between 1985 and 2018, through the dissection and fragmentation of stains as opposed to the progressive dynamics of agricultural areas and bare soil underpinned by the creation and aggregation of stains. The annual rates of deforestation, significant between 1998 / 1999-2017 / 2018, varied between -0.09% and -2.72% depending on the park. Given that the landscapes of these three national parks studied are very dynamic, it is urgent to adopt a policy of their conservation supported by local socio-economic development measures
