The investigation were performed on children with Giardia lamblia infection, diagnosed on the basis of positive stool tests for Giardia antigen (Elisa) or by microscopical detection of trophozoites in duodenal fluid. In duodenal biopsies morphological studies and immunohistochemical reaction for inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) were performed. The control group was made up of duodenal tissue of children with excluded giardiasis and inflammation of the upper part of gastrointestinal tract. The duodenal biopsies from children without Giardia lamblia infection were found to have a high immunoreactivity for iNOS in enterocytes, the cells of intestinal crypts, endothelial cells of vessels and connective tissue cells of lamina propria. In children with giardiasis: in some biopsies the expression of iNOS was as high as in control group, in others was weaker detectable and the shortening of intestinal villi was seen. There were also duodenal biopsies with the lack of immunoreactivity for iNOS, with shorter villi and a large amount of mucus in the intestinal epithelium. Beside of goblet cells, also enterocytes were loaded with mucus. The pathological changes may cause malabsorption and also may have a negative influence on the defense of the intestinal wall against Giardia lamblia infection. The different morphological and immunohistochemical results in the duodenum of children with giardiasis can elucidate a variety of clinical symptoms from asymptomatic to severe infection

The effect of aneurysm geometry on the intra-aneurysmal flow condition

Various anatomical parameters affect on intra-aneurysmal hemodynamics. Nevertheless, how the shapes of real patient aneurysms affect on their intra-aneurysmal hemodynamics remains unanswered. Quantitative computational fluid dynamics simulation was conducted using eight patients’ angiograms of internal carotid artery–ophthalmic artery aneurysms. The mean size of the intracranial aneurysms was 11.5 mm (range 5.8 to 19.9 mm). Intra-aneurysmal blood flow velocity and wall shear stress (WSS) were collected from three measurement planes in each aneurysm dome. The correlation coefficients (r) were obtained between hemodynamic values (flow velocity and WSS) and the following anatomical parameters: averaged dimension of aneurysm dome, the largest aneurysm dome dimension, aspect ratio, and dome–neck ratio. Negative linear correlations were observed between the averaged dimension of aneurysm dome and intra-aneurysmal flow velocity (r = −0.735) and also WSS (r = −0.736). The largest dome diameter showed a negative correlation with intra-aneurysmal flow velocity (r = −0.731) and WSS (r = −0.496). The aspect ratio demonstrated a weak negative correlation with the intra-aneurysmal flow velocity (r = −0.381) and WSS (r = −0.501). A clear negative correlation was seen between the intra-aneurysmal flow velocity and the dome–neck ratio (r = −0.708). A weak negative correlation is observed between the intra-aneurysmal WSS and the dome–neck ratio (r = −0.392). The aneurysm dome size showed a negative linear correlation with intra-aneurysmal flow velocity and WSS. Wide-necked aneurysm geometry was associated with faster intra-aneurysmal flow velocity

ICO vs. ICO. Will blockchain technology revolutionize public offering market?

Podsumowując technologie typu blockchain mają wiele zalet a jeszcze więcej wad. Blochchain technologies have numerous advantages but even more disadvantages. It is justified that regulators make attempts to protect shareholders and investors against these drawbacks and make them aware of the risk of investing in these innovative but dangerous tools. However, certain directions of changes have been made that cannot be stopped. In the long run it will be impossible to maintain the public offering market in its present shape as it may become unattractive, too expensive and complicated for investors

Odontogenic phlegmon of the mouth floor—Ludwig's angina (phlegmonae fundi cavi oris seu angina Ludovici)—is a rare, life-threatening, local complication in most cases of odontogenic inflammation. This study presents the case of a patient treated in the Department of Maxillofacial and Plastic Surgery of the University Hospital in Białystok due to phlegmon of the mouth floor resulting from odontogenic inflammation with a dynamic course. Quick diagnostics, surgical intervention as well as antibiotic therapy contributed to its efficient and successful treatment
