    Serous Pigment Epithelium Detachment Associated with Age-Related Macular Degeneration: A Possible Treatment Approach

    To evaluate the effects of intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide (TA) as a monotherapy of serous Pigment Epithelial Detachment (PED) associated with AMD (Age-Related Macular Degeneration), this study has been performed. Seventeen patients (19 eyes) with serous PED associated with AMD were observed. All patients received 0.1ml (4mg) of intravitreal TA. The mean follow-up period was 18 months. Re-attachment of serous PED was observed in 37% of cases to the end of follow-up. In other cases, the height and length of serous PED significantly decreased. Visual acuity remained stable in all cases. No evidence of RPE tear or CNV development were noted. Before TA administration, intraocular pressure (IOP) was 20.18 ± 2.58 mmHg however, after intravitreal TA, IOP increased gradually and reached its maximum of all period of observation (23.25±1.85mmHg) six months after injection (P=0.031). In 7 (37%) of the cases, progression to cataract was observed after treatment. After surgery, the visual acuity in all cases increased by 0.2 to 0.5. As a conclusion, intravitreal TA decreases of both the height and length of serous PED associated with AMD after 18 months follow-up in most cases. The presented data provides support for the hypothesis regarding the possibility of monotherapy of serous PED with intravitreal TA

    Tobacco use is a major preventable cause of premature death and disease worldwide, presently causing over 5 million deaths each year and expected to cause over 8 million deaths yearly by 2030. Within the European Region, tobacco is responsible for approximately 1.6 million deaths a year. The World Health Organization (WHO) Tobacco Free Initiative (TFI) aims to reduce the global burden of disease and death caused by tobacco, thereby protecting present and future generations from the devastating health, social, environmental, and economic consequences of tobacco consumption and exposure to tobacco smoke. This will be accomplished by providing global policy leadership -- promoting the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), as well as the MPOWER package of tobacco policies as a key entry point to the WHO FCTC. Within the European Region, 46 countries and the European Community have ratified the Treaty. Ukraine ratified the WHO FCTC in 2006. In August 2006, the WHO and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) convened an expert consultation to discuss adult tobacco surveillance and made recommendations for the development of a standard survey protocol. The Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) enables countries to collect data on key tobacco control measures in the adult population. The aim of the GATS is to collect data on tobacco use and tobacco control measures using a standardized questionnaire, sample design, and data collection/management procedures among adults aged 15 years and older.     Intraocular tumours imaging with transpalpebral near-infrared LED transillumination: Pilot study

    Purpose: To determine the possible use of near-infrared(NIR) light-emitting-diode (LED) radiation for imaging intraocular tumours by transpalpebral transillumination. Methods: This study was a pilot, open-label, prospective and non-interventional. Thirty patients (30 eyes; age 30–72 years) with uveal melanomas located in the iris, ciliary body, or choroid were under our observation. A biomicroscopy, ophthalmoscopy, transpalpebral NIR transillumination, and ultrasound examination were performed in all cases. Results: In all cases, NIR transillumination with transpalpebral approach enables visualization of the ciliary body and accurately estimates the projection of the pars plicata and ora serrata onto the sclera. In all patients, transpalpebral NIR transillumination made it possible to image the shadow of intraocular melanoma, estimate its dimensions and location concerning the ciliary body structures. Conclusions: We recommend the non-invasive transpalpebral NIR transillumination technique, together with traditional ultrasound imaging, to improve the accuracy of assessing the size and location of intraocular tumours

Π€ΡƒΠ»Π»Π΅Ρ€Π°The article is devoted to the consideration of cognitive relativism as a socio-cultural problem expressed in the popular concept of post-truth. In approaches to cognitive relativism, two lines of thought are distinguished, which are analyzed on the basis of the well-known concepts of representatives of each of them – the concept of Β«bullshitΒ» by G. Frankfurt and the version of the concept of Β«post-truthΒ» put forward by S. Fuller. The difference between the concepts explaining the causes, consequences and strategies of behavior in the context of the social problem of cognitive relativism is due to the difference in the position regarding the objectivity of the opposition Β«truth-falseΒ». The realistic attitude to truth, from which G. Frankfurt proceeds, implies a view of relativism as bullshit – a way of utterance, which is characterized by cognitive Β«dishonestyΒ», consists in the discrepancy between the content of the utterance and the real state of affairs, the truth. The relativistic attitude to truth is reflected in the understanding of post-truth by S. Fuller as universal for the history of thought of the struggle for power, which he traces from the time of the dispute between Plato and the sophists about truth. Each of the concepts expresses one of the possible lines of methodology and strategy of behavior in the conditions of prevalence of cognitive relativism in modern culture – the intention to overcome post-truth and return to the ideals of the validity of knowledge in the case of G.     The emergence of a full-scale quantum computer questions the stability of almost all symmetric and asymmetric cryptography algorithms. At the same time, the rapid growth of computing resources of IT and β€œG” technologies contributes to an increase in attacks on information and communication (ICS) and cyberphysical systems (CPS). These systems are the core of modern critical cybernetic information systems (CCIS). In such conditions, the primary task of maintaining the required level of security is the classification of modern threats that are integrated with social engineering methods and acquire signs of synergy and hybridity. The paper proposes a synergistic model of threats to ICS/CPS, which takes into account the focus of threats on synergy and hybridity, and the combined impact of security components: information security (IS), cybersecurity (CS), security of information (SI). This approach allows developing methodological foundations for building a unified classifier of threats to cyberphysical systems, forming sets of critical threats, critical points in the ICS/CPS infrastructure elements, based on minimal computing, human and economic costs. The developed methodology for determining the category of an attacker allows systematizing an attacker and, based on the analysis of weighting factors, forming a matrix of correspondence between the capabilities of attackers of various categories and technical means of information security (TMIS).     The emergence of a full-scale quantum computer questions the stability of almost all symmetric and asymmetric cryptography algorithms. At the same time, the rapid growth of computing resources of IT and β€œG” technologies contributes to an increase in attacks on information and communication (ICS) and cyberphysical systems (CPS). These systems are the core of modern critical cybernetic information systems (CCIS). In such conditions, the primary task of maintaining the required level of security is the classification of modern threats that are integrated with social engineering methods and acquire signs of synergy and hybridity. The paper proposes a synergistic model of threats to ICS/CPS, which takes into account the focus of threats on synergy and hybridity, and the combined impact of security components: information security (IS), cybersecurity (CS), security of information (SI). This approach allows developing methodological foundations for building a unified classifier of threats to cyberphysical systems, forming sets of critical threats, critical points in the ICS/CPS infrastructure elements, based on minimal computing, human and economic costs. The developed methodology for determining the category of an attacker allows systematizing an attacker and, based on the analysis of weighting factors, forming a matrix of correspondence between the capabilities of attackers of various categories and technical means of information security (TMIS).
