Computing geometric median to locate the sink node with the aim of extending the lifetime of wireless sensor networks

AbstractIn case of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) the sensed data which are collected by the ordinary senor nodes will have to be forwarded to the sink node (Base Station) in order to be accessible by the remote users. The location of the sink could significantly affect the energy dissipation and throughput of the network. This paper aims to investigate an optimal location for the sink node in such a way that the sum of distances from all the sensor nodes to the sink node is minimized. In an effort to place the sink node within the network our algorithm finds the geometric median of all the location associated with the sensor nodes. In a discrete set of points, the geometric median could be defined as the location which basically minimizes the sum of distances to all the points. Performance evaluation reveals that the proposed location for the sink node extends the network lifetime comparing with other possible location within the network field

The Effect of Task Planning and Genderon Writing Fluency: A Case Study of Undergraduate Students at AMU

Tasked Based Language Teaching (TBLT) has widely provided learners with some opportunities to learn spoken and written language through learning activities in the major of English Language Teaching (ELT). It offers the student an opportunity to be taught more naturally. In the recent years, that there is a massive growth of interest in examining differential effects of task planning conditionson fluency, accuracy and complexity in English as a second language (ESL) context but, the present study explored the impacts of task planning and gender on ESL learners’ written performance in terms of fluency. To this end, five-hundred undergraduate English Language Learners, both male and female (within the age range of 18-24) have been recruited from Aligarh Muslim University. Two tasks were chosen as instruments for data collection. One is a narrative task (as a pre-task for five-hundred) and the other is an argumentativeessay (for two-hundred one) to measure the fluency of the participants’ written production, under different planning conditions (pre-task planning, within-task planning, and no planning). One-way MANOVA was employed as the statistical means of analysis. The findings revealed a significant effect of task planning and gender under different planning conditions inwords per minute (the number of words produced by the participants divided by the time they spent on each assignment) and syllables per minute (The number of syllables that the participants produced divided by the minutes they spent on production) regarding fluency

Investigating Relationships between locus of control and Emotional Intelligence on Reading Comprehension of Indian ESL Learners at Aligarh Muslim University

In recent years, locus of control and emotional intelligence abilities have increasingly attained attention in research correlated to students' achievement. A various body of educational study has reported the significance of locus of control ability and the constructive influence of locus of control and emotional intelligence on learners’ achievement. This study explored the predictability of locus of control and emotional intelligence (reality testing, social responsibility, Assertiveness) on reading comprehension. 200 Indian ESL learners participated in the study. For data collection, an emotional intelligence questionnaire (Bar-On's EQ-itest"), locus of control questionnaire (Levenson Multidimensional locus of control scale) and a version of TOEFL reading comprehension test (TOEFL, 2010) were used. The data were analyzed by using path analysis and Pearson correlation. The results of the study indicated that reading score has the highest positive correlation with reality testing (r = .31, p< 0.05), and the lowest correlation with Assertiveness (r = .05, p>0.05). In addition, there is a weak positive significant relationship between reading score and locus of control (r = .29, p<.05). Hence, emotional intelligence is better predictor for reading comprehension. Current study has focused on only three factor of emotional intelligence (reality testing, social responsibility, Assertiveness) which had the highest correlations with other skills like speaking

Measuring the organizational intelligence of the experts and managers of the cement factory in Sistan

This study has been carried out aiming at measuring the organizational intelligence of the experts and managers of the cement factory in Sistan. The research is practical-descriptive and the statistical population includes all 50 experts and managers of the cement factory in Sistan. Sampling method was consensus. Therefore, all the population was considered, yet 42 questionnaires were returned for analysis. The instrumentation included the 49-question Albrecht’s organizational intelligence questionnaire. The content validity and its reliability (using Cronbach index = 0.81) were calculated. The results show that the organizational intelligence of the experts and managers of the Sistan cement factory is unacceptably below average. The findings also revealed that the parameters of strategic vision, shared fate, appetite for change, and alignment and congruence were below average and the ones of heart, knowledge deployment, and performance pressure were above average

Background: Cancer is a malignant disease with high incidence in both genders and all age groups. The prevalence of these serious types of cancer which also vary according to age groups and kinds of cancer must be known. Studies are a must to get more attention to these diseases and occasions for prevention of widespread occurrence. Objective: This study was done to study the estimated cancer incidence by gender, age groups, and kinds of cancer in patients. Materials and Methods: 200 cases of cancer patients that were admitted in oncology wards of the hospital after diagnosis with cancer and getting surgery, chemotherapy and radiology in Iran, Zahedan city region, were studied. The study lasted from 12th April 2014 to 20th March 2015. Data collection was during 12 months by follow-up of patients. Collected data of gender, age groups, and kinds of cancer were assessed with frequency statistics test. Results: In particular, females of 35-39 and 50-54 age groups were more vulnerable, and Leukemia was the most frequent type of cancer in the affected population. Cancer research by gender and age groups shows female in 40-44 and male in 35-39 age groups were in high-risk groups. Furthermore, cancer by gender and kinds of cancer indicate that females suffer from leukemia more than males; in contrast, males are affected by lymphoma with higher rate than females. Conclusions: Findings in this study revealed different results in gender, variety of age groups, and kinds of cancer. We studied some important factors to assess high-risk groups in every region of world. This finding gives useful information to reduce high susceptibility risk by positive lifestyle choices, not smoking, eating a healthy diet, being physically active, and improving health education

Methylene blue (cationic dye) adsorption into Salvadora persica stems ash

Methylene blue (MB) is the most commonly used substance for dyeing cotton, wood and silk. On inhalation, it can cause difficulty in breathing, while on direct contact, it may cause permanent injury of the eyes of human and animals, burning sensations, nausea, worming, profuse sweating, mental confusion and methemoglobinemia. In the present study, Salvadora persica stem ash was used as an adsorbent for the successful removal of methylene blue (MB) dye from aqueous solutions. The effect of various operating parameters such as initial concentration of dye (20 to 200 mg/L), contact time (5 to 270 min), adsorbent dosage (0.2 to 10 g/L) and pH (2 to 13) was investigated. The results of this study shows that the S. persica stem ash was able to remove up to 97% of MB dye from solutions with various initial dye concentrations at initial pH of 13. Also, the equilibrium data were also fitted to the Langmuir and Freundlich equilibrium isotherm models. It was found that the data fitted better to Freundlich (R2=0.9314) than Langmuir (R2=0.8836) model. Finally, it can be concluded that the S. persica stem ash can be used for textile industry wastewater treatment.Key words: Methylene blue (MB), adsorption, S. persica, natural adsorbent
