Analysis of the Harmonic Producer Circuits

    Get PDF
This study introduces a mathematical method for the analysis of the harmonic producer circuits with a ferromagnetic saturable core coil, taking the effect of magnetic hysteresis into consideration. This method is based on the theorems of the Periodically Interrupted Electric Circuits of the Third Genus, and on the application of the Digital Computer (KDC-1). First we describe in general how to apply this analytical method to the basic circuit of harmonic producers to clarify its behaviour as accurately as possible, and next to the harmonic producer circuit containing an additional capacitor. One numerical example is presented to show the performance of the harmonic producer circuit in this paper

    Analysis of a Half-Controlled Single-Phase Bridge Circuit with Free-Wheeling Diode (1)

The operation, mainly in a steady state, of a half controlled single-phase bridge circuit with a finite inductive load, has been treated analytically. Some operation features of particular bridge circuits are discussed

First Zoea of a Rare Deep-sea Shrimp Vexillipar repandum Chace, 1988 (Crustacea, Decapoda, Caridea, Alpheidae), with Special Reference to Larval Characters of the Family

First zoea of a rare alpheid shrimp Vexillipar repandum Chace, associated with a deep-sea hexactinellid sponge, is described and illustrated based on laboratory-hatched material. The general morphology of the first zoea of V. repandum is similar to those of the previously-known examples of Alpheus. A diagrammatic key for identification of the family among caridean zoeas is proposed

A Modified Type of the Resonant Turn-off SCR D-C Chopper

    Get PDF
A modified type of the resonant turn-off d-c chopprr using an auxiliary SCR, compared with its conventional one, has no limitation about its starting and also operates more steadily. Presented in this paper, making a comparison between the modified type and the conventional one, are the circuit analysis and its efficiency measurement from the point of view of overall efficiency, that is, the ratio of the output to the input. Furthermore, some effects of the source impedance, counter emf load, etc. are discussed. As a result, it has been analytically clarified that this modified type is different from the conventional circuit only by one terminal connection of turn-off capacitor, but has the features of uncompounded circuit configuration, no limitation about its starting and more steady operation

Micropropagation of Nolana intonsa as a tool for its domestication and conservation

    Get PDF
A complete protocol of Nolana intonsa I. M. Johnst, micropropagation was developed. The culture media used were WPM, DKW, and MS as control. DKW medium produced the best results over in vitro development of N. intonsa, generating a significant increase in the multiplication rate, lateral shoots formation, height, and general quality of the plantlets. In the case of fresh weight, dry weight, and water content, no differences were observed between MS and DKW, but a significant decrease in these parameters was produced when the WPM medium was used. Subsequently, when DKW was defined as basal medium, the effect of auxin supplementation was also evaluated. The addition of IBA generated a desirable effect over  the in vitro plantlets. The addition of 0.05 mg L-1 of IBA improve the multiplication rate, the shoot’s development, plant’s height, and reduced in a significant way the damage to the plantlets. Fresh weight, dry weight, and water contents also showed a significant increase when IBA supplementation was added to the DKW medium. The plants where acclimatization of the plantlets was possible, obtaining finished pot plants capable of growth under greenhouse conditions. The development of a micropropagation protocol of N. intonsa could help the conservation and sustainable utilization of this endemic Chilean species

Soil survey was made at the Koofu reclamation land in Miye Prefecture. Physical and chemical analyses were carried out on the soil samples taken from the upper and lower layers of soil profiles. From these results the soils of this reclamation land are classified into three types, namely A-, B- and C-type. Each soil type is further classified into a few subtypes. In general the soils have a large amount of gravel near surface horizon, and show storng acidity and low content of humus anb available phosphorus. The B-type soils surpass the A- and C-type soils in these properties and the fields are well reclaimed. In conclusion the main reason of poor development of this reclamation land could be attributed to the poor soil properties

Genetic Isolation between the Western and Eastern Pacific Populations of Pronghorn Spiny Lobster Panulirus penicillatus

    Get PDF
The pronghorn spiny lobster, Panulirus penicillatus, is a circumtropical species which has the widest global distribution among all the species of spiny lobster, ranging throughout the entire Indo-Pacific region. Partial nucleotide sequences of mitochondrial DNA COI (1,142–1,207 bp) and 16S rDNA (535–546 bp) regions were determined for adult and phyllosoma larval samples collected from the Eastern Pacific (EP)(Galápagos Islands and its adjacent water), Central Pacific (CP)(Hawaii and Tuamotu) and the Western Pacific (WP)(Japan, Indonesia, Fiji, New Caledonia and Australia). Phylogenetic analyses revealed two distinct large clades corresponding to the geographic origin of samples (EP and CP+WP). No haplotype was shared between the two regional samples, and average nucleotide sequence divergence (Kimura's two parameter distance) between EP and CP+WP samples was 3.8±0.5% for COI and 1.0±0.4% for 16S rDNA, both of which were much larger than those within samples. The present results indicate that the Pacific population of the pronghorn spiny lobster is subdivided into two distinct populations (Eastern Pacific and Central to Western Pacific), with no gene flow between them. Although the pronghorn spiny lobster have long-lived teleplanic larvae, the vast expanse of Pacific Ocean with no islands and no shallow substrate which is known as the East Pacific Barrier appears to have isolated these two populations for a long time (c.a. 1MY)
