New genus of flea beetle (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Galerucinae: Alticini) from the Upper Eocene Baltic amber
Ambraaltica baltica new genus and new species (Chrysomelidae: Galerucinae: Alticini) is described
from Upper Eocene Baltic amber. It is illustrated and compared to recent flea beetle genera and genera known from
fossil resins
New species of Middle Asian Longitarsus Latreille with discussion of their subgeneric placement (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae)
The subgenus Testergus Weise of Longitarsus Latreille is redefined based on the characters of male genitalia and four new species are described and illustrated: L. borisi sp. nov. (Tadzhikistan), L. danilevskyi sp. nov. (Kazakhstan), L. igori sp. nov. (Tadzhikistan), and L. nadiae sp. nov. (Kirgizstan). The lectotypes for L. fuscoaeneus Redtenbacher, L. tmetopterus Jacobson and L. nurataicus Palij are designated. A key to the known Testergus species from Greece, Caucasus and Middle Asia is provided
A new genus of flea beetles from the Greater Antilles (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae)
The new genus Normaltica and two new species (N. obrieni from Puerto Rico and N. iviei from the Dominican Republic) are described and illustrated. A key and illustrations of these taxa are pro- vided. Morphological consequences of wing reduction are discussed. Variability of N. obrieni is illustrated and discussed
Taxonomic changes in the genus Diabrotica Chevrolat (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Galerucinae): results of a synopsis of North and Central America Diabrotica species
The following new synonyms in Diabrotica Chevrolat 1836 are proposed: D. flaviventris Jacoby 1887 and D. tibialis Jacoby 1887 are synonyms of D. adelpha Harold 1875; D. peckii Bowditch 1911 is a synonym of D. bioculata Bowditch 1911; D. nummularis Harold 1877 is a synonym of D. circulata Harold 1875; D. linensis Bechyné 1956 is a synonym of D. trifurcata Jacoby 1887; D. brunneosignata Jacoby 1887 is a synonym of D. sinuata Olivier 1790; D. duplicata Jacoby 1887 is a synonym of D. viridifasciata Jacoby 1887. Diabrotica cyaneomaculata Jacoby 1887 does not share the synapo- morphies of Diabrotica and is treated as incertae sedis. Diabrotica tripunctata (Fabricius) is removed from synonymy with D. sinuata Olivier and is considered to be a valid species. The original combination is restored for Diabrotica fasciata Kirsch, the species being transferred from Paranapiacaba Bechyné back to Diabrotica. It was found that the type series of D. godmani Jacoby contains seven different taxa: one is D. godmani itself; one is D. championi Jacoby; one is D. quad- ricollis Jacoby; three are unidentified Diabrotica species, each different from the others; and one is not a Diabrotica. The type series of D. viridicollis Jacoby contains four different taxa, D. viridicollis Jacoby itself and three different unidentified Diabrotica species
A new species of Cangshanaltica Konstantinov et al., a moss-inhabiting flea beetle from Thailand (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Galerucinae: Alticini)
Moss cushions represent an interesting, but poorly understood habitat, which hosts many species of flea beetles (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Galerucinae: Alticini). However, the diversity of moss-inhabiting flea beetles is not well studied, and collecting in tropical and subtropical locations that were not sampled in the past led to the discovery of many new species (Konstantinov et al. 2013). Here, a new species of a moss-inhabiting flea beetle from the genus Cangshanaltica Konstantinov et al. 2013 is described and illustrated. This genus is one of the recently described moss- inhabiting flea beetle genera and before this study, only one species was known (Konstantinov et al., 2013). This publication raises the number of flea beetle species that are known to occur in moss cushions around the world to 30, distributed among 15 genera
A new species of Phyllotreta Chevrolat, 1836 (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Galerucinae: Alticini) from Omsk Province of Russia with comments on Phyllotreta species diversity in Northeastern Palearctic
A new species of flea beetle genus Phyllotreta Chevrolat, 1836 (P. sholaksori new species) is described from shores of saline lakes in Southwestern Siberia. It is compared with species with which it was collected as well as with species comprising a group to which it belongs (P. araxicola Jablokoff-Khnzorian, 1968, P. astrachanica Lopatin, 1977, P. atra Fabricius, 1775, P. balcanica Heikertinger, 1909, P. cruciferae Goeze, 1777, and P. diademata Fourdas, 1860). All these species are illustrated and included in the key
FORGOTTEN AULACOTHORAX BOHEMAN, 1858, A SENIOR SYNONYM OF ORTHALTICA CROTCH, 1873 (COLEOPTERA: CHRYSOMELIDAE: GALERUCINAE: ALTICINI)
Discovery of the holotype of Aulacothorax exilis Boheman, 1858, originally described in Scydmaeninae (Staphylinidae), in the collections of Naturhistoriska Riksmuseet Stockholm in Sweden revealed that this species is actually a leaf beetle (Chrysomelidae) belonging to the genus until now known as Orthaltica Crotch, 1873. Because Aulacothorax has been available since 1858 and Orthaltica only since 1873, we here synonymize Orthaltica with Aulacothorax. Aulacothorax exilis is redescribed and illustrated
New genera and species of leaf beetles (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) from China and South Korea
Two new genera from China (Taumaceroides Lopatin and Yunnaniata Lopatin) and 11 new species (Smaragdina quadrimaculata Lopatin, S. oblongum Lopatin, Hyphaenia volkovitshi Lopatin, Arthrotus daliensis Lopatin, Taumaceroides sinicus Lopatin, Yunnaniata konstantinovi Lopatin, Calomicrus yunnanus Lopatin, C. minutissimus Lopatin, Hermaeophaga belkadavi Konstantinov, H. dali Konstantinov from China, and H. korotyaevi Konstantinov from South Korea) are described and illustrated. A key to Hermaeophaga species of Eurasia is presented. Since Hermaeophaga dali was collected feeding on Paederia foetida L. (Rubiaceae), which is an invasive noxious weed in the United States, this species has potential as a biological control agent of this weed
A NEW SPECIES-GROUP IN APHTHONA CHEVROLAT (COLEOPTERA: CHRYSOMELIDAE) WITH A DESCRIPTION OF A NEW SPECIES FROM SOUTHERN INDIA
A new species-group in the flea beetle genus Aphthona Chevrolat is defined and Aphthona yercaudensis Prathapan and Konstantinov, new species, from southern India is described. A key to Aphthona species-groups in the Oriental Region is provided. Herbaceous species of Phyllanthus L. (Euphorbiaceae) are recorded as the host plants of Aphthona bombayensis Scherer
Moss inhabiting flea beetles (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Galerucinae: Alticini) of the West Indies II: Menudos, a new genus from Puerto Rico and description of methods to collect moss inhabiting flea beetles
Menudos Linzmeier & Konstantinov, a new genus of moss inhabiting flea beetles, containing five species, three of them are new (M. illariosus, M. maricao, and M. toronegro—the type species of the genus), from Puerto Rico is described and illustrated. The new genus is compared to Aedmon Clark, Apleuraltica Bechyne, Andersonaltica Linzmeier & Konstantinov, Distigmoptera Blake and Ulrica Scherer. Aedmon barberi (Blake, 1943b) and Distigmoptera chamorrae Konstantinov & Konstantinova, 2011 are transferred to Menudos. A key to Menudos species identification is provided. Methods for collecting moss inhabiting flea beetles and other arthropods are described in detail for the first time
