    Simple Scheme for Gauge Mediation

    Get PDF
We present a simple scheme for constructing models that achieve successful gauge mediation of supersymmetry breaking. In addition to our previous work [1] that proposed drastically simplified models using metastable vacua of supersymmetry breaking in vector-like theories, we show there are many other successful models using various types of supersymmetry breaking mechanisms that rely on enhanced low-energy U(1)_R symmetries. In models where supersymmetry is broken by elementary singlets, one needs to assume U(1)_R violating effects are accidentally small, while in models where composite fields break supersymmetry, emergence of approximate low-energy U(1)_R symmetries can be understood simply on dimensional grounds. Even though the scheme still requires somewhat small parameters to sufficiently suppress gravity mediation, we discuss their possible origins due to dimensional transmutation. The scheme accommodates a wide range of the gravitino mass to avoid cosmological problems.Comment: 13 page

    Get PDF
This paper is concerned with the plastic analysis and the design problems of multistory rigid frames by use of the linear programming technique. The objective of this work is to develop the plastic analysis and design of rigid frames, paying attention to the graph theory, and to reduce the computer core size and also to save the execution time by using a decomposition technique. A few examples are presented to illustrate the method proposed here

An Application of Network-Topological Concepts to the Design of Framed Structures

In accordance with the increasing necessity of the rational design of structures, the optimum design method has been developed during the last two decades. The optimum design method eventually depends on two different bases by using digital computers. One refers to the mathematical programming, while the other refers to the structural analysis to be suitable for digital computations. There exist, however, many difficulties in their direct applications to the optimum design. Numerical results occasionally converge poorly and more calculation time is required as the number of design variables increases. Thus, a particular treatment which can decrease the number of design variables is necessary for the design of real large structures. In this paper, the authors propose the piecewise design, which is based on the concepts of Kron's Tearing and Interconnecting Method, in order to decrease the number of design variables. Also, the optimal geometric configuration, which has been scarcely considered in most studies, is discussed with the aid of the topological treatment

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether postischemic administration of minocycline attenuates hind-limb motor dysfunction and gray and white matter injuries after spinal cord ischemia. DESIGN: A prospective, randomized, laboratory investigation. SETTING: Laboratory in university, single institution. PARTICIPANTS: Male New Zealand White rabbits. INTERVENTION: Spinal cord ischemia was induced by an occlusion of the infrarenal aorta for 15 minutes. The groups were administered minocycline 1 hour after reperfusion (M-1; n = 8), minocycline 3 hours after reperfusion (M-3; n = 8), saline 1 hour after reperfusion (control [C]; n = 8), or saline and no occlusion (sham; n = 4). Minocycline was administered intravenously at 10 mg/kg 6 times at 12-hour intervals until 60 hours after the initial administration. MEASUREMENT AND MAIN RESULTS: Hind-limb motor function was assessed using the Tarlov score. For histologic assessments, gray and white matter injuries were evaluated 72 hours after reperfusion using the number of normal neurons and the percentage of areas of vacuolation, respectively. Motor function 72 hours after reperfusion was significantly better in group M-1 than in group C. The number of neurons in the anterior horn was significantly larger in group M-1 than in groups M-3 or C but did not differ significantly between groups M-3 and C. No significant difference was noted in the percentage of areas of vacuolation among the ischemia groups. CONCLUSIONS: Minocycline administration beginning at 1 hour after reperfusion improved hind-limb motor dysfunction and attenuated gray matter injury in a rabbit spinal cord ischemia model.博士(医学)・乙第1314号・平成25年5月29

Nonlinear Response of an Annular Sector Plate Subjected to In-Plane Dynamic Moment

    Get PDF
The nonlinear dynamic instability of an annular sector plate subjected to equal and opposite time-varying moments is examined. The equation of motion describing a large deflection of the annular sector plate based upon Berger\u27s approximate equation is analyzed by the Galerkin method. The resulting equations for time variables are integrated by using the Runge-Kutta-Gill method. Numerical results are presented for various boundary conditions, damping forces, and static moments.Proceedings of the 38th Japan National Congress for Applied Mechanics, 198

Development of stepping measurement device for evaluation of and training in walking

Although gait training equipment such as the bicycle ergometer and treadmill exists for patients whose walking ability is high, there is no appropriate gait training method or training instrument for patients whose walking ability has become impaired, who often use a cane or walker, etc. in the course of daily life. In the case of gait training for persons whose walking ability involves impaired locomotion, there is always the danger of a fall. Consequently, a caregiver is required, and the effect of the training is cut by half because the patient's anxiety about falling is exacerbated. Slow stepping affords strengthening and balance training of the leg muscles for patients whose walking ability has become low, and walking ability is improved. However, whether such training appropriately carries out stepping and the degree of the effect of such training has not been evaluated. Therefore, we have developed a stepping measurement device that monitors stepping for evaluation and training of walking ability. This system consists of two mat switches for stepping, a measuring circuit for stepping detection, and a book-sized personal computer with a PC card-type AD converter. This system can detect a left or right single stance phase and a double stance phase relative to the ON, OFF condition of the mat switch. After measurement, the following items are analyzed and displayed: ・number of steps, ・average time of double stance phase, ・the average time of single stance phase, and so on. Finally, we measured the stepping of subjects whose walking ability is low, and showed the relationship between daily walking conditions and stepping conditions. The effectiveness of this system was considered in light of the results

The usefulness of nifekalant for activation mapping of premature beat-triggered atrial fibrillation: Suppression of atrial fibrillation initiation without inhibiting premature beat

    Get PDF
AbstractA 66-year-old man underwent a second ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF). Intravenous isoproterenol administration caused the atrial premature beat (APB), triggering AF. The APB originated in the right atrium and invariably initiated AF. Therefore, contact activation mapping could not be performed without frequent electrocardioversion. To prevent the initiation of AF without inhibiting the APB firing, we administered nifekalant intravenously, which facilitated precise activation mapping and ablation of the AF-triggering APB. The administration of nifekalant may improve clinical outcomes of catheter ablation for AF triggered by non-pulmonary vein APB, which invariably initiates AF

New Confining N=1 Supersymmetric Gauge Theories

    Get PDF
We examine N=1 supersymmetric gauge theories which confine in the presence of a tree-level superpotential. We show the confining spectra which satisfy the 't Hooft anomaly matching conditions and give a simple method to find the confining superpotential. Using this method we fix the confining superpotentials in the simplest cases, and show how these superpotentials are generated by multi-instanton effects in the dual theory. These new type of confining theories may be useful for model building, since the size of the matter content is not restricted by an index constraint. Therefore, one expects that a large variety of new confining spectra can be obtained using such models.Comment: 26 pages, LaTe
