Quadratic solitary waves in a counterpropagating quasi-phase-matched configuration

We demonstrate the possibility of self-trapping of optical beams by use of quasi phase matching in a counterpropagating configuration in quadratic media. Stability of spinning ring solitons of the cubic-quintic nonlinear Schrodinger equation

We investigate stability of (2+1)-dimensional ring solitons of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation with focusing cubic and defocusing quintic nonlinearities. Computing eigenvalues of the linearised equation, we show that rings with spin (topological charge) s=1 and s=2 are linearly stable, provided that they are very broad. The stability regions occupy, respectively, 9% and 8% of the corresponding existence regions. Cuidados paliativos na atenção primária em pacientes com doenças crônicas em estágio avançado: revisão de literatura

Cuidados paliativos baseiam-se numa modalidade de assistência ao paciente sem possibilidades de cura de uma doença ou em estado de terminalidade. Tem como principal objetivo melhorar a qualidade de vida do doente e dos familiares envolvidos no cuidado mediante prevenção e alívio do sofrimento, o que envolve identificação precoce, avaliação rigorosa e tratamento da dor e de outros problemas psicossocial e espiritual. Essa revisão tem como objetivo reunir o conhecimento científico a respeito dos pacientes com doenças crônicas em estágio avançado em cuidados paliativos no âmbito da atenção primária. Além os benefícios do atendimento ambulatorial e domiciliar. Observa-se que há poucos estudos a respeito dessa temática. Os estudos primários foram obtidos nas bases de dados Google Acadêmico, LILACS e Pubmed, publicados nos últimos 10 anos. Alguns estudos avaliaram que embora já existam diretrizes a cerca dos cuidados paliativos, muitos profissionais ainda apresentam certa limitação a respeito dos princípios e normativas dessa especialidade, reconhecem apenas a melhora da qualidade de vida e humanização da assistência, mas afirmam ter dificuldades sobre várias abordagens tanto na abordagem, diagnóstico, quanto no controle da dor e limitações sobre o processo de morte. Higher-order nonlinear modes and bifurcation phenomena due to degenerate parametric four-wave mixing

We demonstrate that weak parametric interaction of a fundamental beam with its third harmonic field in Kerr media gives rise to a rich variety of families of non-fundamental (multi-humped) solitary waves. Making a comprehensive comparison between bifurcation phenomena for these families in bulk media and planar waveguides, we discover two novel types of soliton bifurcations and other interesting findings. The later includes (i) multi-humped solitary waves without even or odd symmetry and (ii) multi-humped solitary waves with large separation between their humps which, however, may not be viewed as bound states of several distinct one-humped solitons.Comment: 9 pages, 17 figures, submitted to Phys. Standard and Embedded Solitons in Nematic Optical Fibers

A model for a non-Kerr cylindrical nematic fiber is presented. We use the multiple scales method to show the possibility of constructing different kinds of wavepackets of transverse magnetic (TM) modes propagating through the fiber. This procedure allows us to generate different hierarchies of nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) which describe the propagation of optical pulses along the fiber. We go beyond the usual weakly nonlinear limit of a Kerr medium and derive an extended Nonlinear Schrodinger equation (eNLS) with a third order derivative nonlinearity, governing the dynamics for the amplitude of the wavepacket. In this derivation the dispersion, self-focussing and diffraction in the nematic are taken into account. Although the resulting nonlinear $PDE$ may be reduced to the modified Korteweg de Vries equation (mKdV), it also has additional complex solutions which include two-parameter families of bright and dark complex solitons. We show analytically that under certain conditions, the bright solitons are actually double embedded solitons. We explain why these solitons do not radiate at all, even though their wavenumbers are contained in the linear spectrum of the system. Finally, we close the paper by making comments on the advantages as well as the limitations of our approach, and on further generalizations of the model and method presented.Comment: "Physical Review E, in press

A articulação temporomandibular (ATM) encontra-se no nosso rosto e é responsável pelos movimentos de abertura da boca. A inflamação da ATM gera um distúrbio de etiologia multifatorial, que exige uma avaliação multiprofissional e um tratamento eficaz para o bem-estar do paciente, podendo ser medicamentosa e associada a fisioterapia como opção de tratamento. Este quadro é denominado disfunção temporomandibular (DTM). O objetivo do presente trabalho é realizar uma revisão literária a fim de fundamentar o uso da Acupuntura como tratamento eficaz na DTM, a qual gera muita dor, e descrever seu mecanismo de ação. Diversos autores apresentam estudos em populações de pacientes com DTM dos quais obtiveram melhoria comprovada com o tratamento com Acupuntura

O impacto da endometriose na qualidade de vida das mulheres: revisão de literatura.

INTRODUCTION: Endometriosis is a chronic disease characterized by the presence of functional endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. quantity, which implies in a greater number of menstruations and, consequently, in retrograde menstruations. OBJECTIVE: To present, through the scientific literature, the impact caused on the quality of life of women with endometriosis. METHODOLOGY: This is a qualitative study, it refers to an integrative literature review, presenting a synthesis of the studies analyzed in full, organizing them for the elaboration of the results regarding the established theme, being carried out in the month of August 2023. RESULTS: Pain is one of the main factors with a negative impact on the quality of life of women with endometriosis; however, symptoms such as changes in mood, depression and irritability are present in more than 60% of women. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: Therefore, it is understood that pain is one of the main factors that cause low quality of life, as well as the fact of the impossibility of becoming pregnant and/or maintaining the pregnancy.INTRODUÇÃO: A endometriose é uma doença crônica que se caracteriza pela presença de tecido endometrial funcional fora da cavidade uterina, podendo ser conhecida também como  “doença da mulher moderna”, visto que as mulheres estão mais propensas à menarca precoce, gestações tardias ou em menor quantidade, o que implica em maior número de menstruações e, consequentemente, em menstruações retrógradas. OBJETIVO: Apresentar, por meio da literatura científica, o impacto causado na qualidade de vida de mulheres portadoras da endometriose. METODOLOGIA: Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, refere-se a uma revisão integrativa da literatura, apresentando uma síntese dos estudos analisados na íntegra, organizando-os para a elaboração dos resultados a respeito da temática estabelecida, sendo realizada no mês de agosto de 2023. RESULTADOS: A dor é um dos principais fatores de impacto negativo na qualidade de vida da mulher portadora de endometriose, todavia, sintomas como alterações no humor, depressão e irritabilidade estão presentes em mais de 60% das mulheres.  CONSIDERAÇÕES FINAIS: Portanto, entende-se que a dor é um dos fatores principais causadores da baixa qualidade de vida, assim como o fato da impossibilidade de engravidar e/ou manter a gravidez
