Dynamics of digitally controlled forced vibration of suspended cables

    Get PDF
Dynamics of suspended cables with active vibration control is studied. The control device is an electrical vibration absorber that is driven by a motor and that may be fixed at any position along the cable. The absorber applies a control force that reduces vibration amplitude at the position where it is placed. The methodology is efficient for attenuating high-frequency, low-amplitude vibration due to periodic excitation that may consider wind effect. The dynamic behavior is described by a mechanical model of the absorber and the cable at the location where the absorber is attached. The model takes into account such practical problems as time delay and backlash at the driving, which lead to limitation in the applicability of control. Time delay occurs in digital control, because samples of data are taken at discrete time intervals and response is provided after the sampling delay. Backlash influences control when the direction of control force changes, since the control force is not transmitted in the small domain of backlash. The present research examines the effects of time delay and backlash on the local control of cable vibration, and assesses the range of time delay and backlash when the control can be applied successfully. Moreover, the presence of time delay and backlash together results in a motion with some irregularity what justifies the detailed study of the dynamic behavior in order to evaluate the types of motion that may arise in such systems

REGIONAL ANALYSIS OF HUNGARICUMS IN EUROPE = A HUNGARIKUMOK TERÜLETI ELEMZÉSE EURÓPÁBAN

    Get PDF
In the past years there have been many investigations aiming to analyse the timely issue of consumer behaviour related to Hungaricums, but a great extent of these have dealt only with the ones belonging to the agriculture and food economy. Hungaricums play an important role in strengthening the Hungarian national identity, in creating an attractive country-image and also in tying closer the nation together. The European Union have created a unified regulation system for the designated protection of national origin, by which it aims to keep the diversity of food. During the current research several segments of the Hungarian higher education was inquired about the image of Hungaricums. We concluded that, compared to Hungarian students, foreign students do not know the products/values belonging to the Collection of Hungaricums as well. The investigation proves that a more targeted national marketing and the increased appearance of the topic in daily life is needed. Also, it is important to mention that the Hungarian economy nowadays is in a difficult situation, since the basic functions of the countryside have been weakened. Among others, these problems may be solved by preserving traditions. The importance of rural traditions has decreased, therefore the role of initiatives aiming to improve community-organisation and individual responsibility, such as the Collection of Hungaricums and the Hungarian Repository of Values, is vital.</jats:p

Effect of Resonance in Soil-Structure Interaction for Finite Soil Layers

    Get PDF
In case of seismic design the deformability of the soil should be considered, which can be performed in several ways. Most of the methods do not take into account the finite dimensions of the soil, which results significantly different behavior than the spring-dashpot systems. For an infinite medium, which is used in many cases, there are no eigenmodes, however in practical applications the soft soil is always bounded by rocks. For these cases the soil has eigenmodes and the resonance may influence considerably the response of the system. This question was investigated numerically by FE calculations, and it was found that in certain cases the resonance, which is neglected in the common design process, may significantly enhance the earthquake loads. In this paper this phenomenon is investigated and the parameter range is defined when this effect must be taken into account
