    Fat tail phenomena in a stochastic model of stock market : the long-range percolation approach

    Using a Gibbs distribution developed in the theory of statistical physics and a long−range percolation theory, we present a new model of a stock price process for explaining the fat tail in the distribution of stock returns. We consider two types of traders, Group A and Group B : Group A traders analyze the past data on the stock market to determine their present trading positions. The way to determine their trading positions is not deterministic but obeys a Gibbs distribution with interactions between the past data and the present trading positions. On the other hand, Group B traders follow the advice reached through the long−range percolation system from the investment adviser. As the resulting stock price process, we derive a Lévy process

    東京海洋大学は、国立大学法人としての大学教育と登録船舶職員養成施設としてのライセンス教育を合わせもつ特色ある大学である。我々は、大学教育として、常に技術の基礎と最新の知識を学生に教授することに努める。本学の海事システム工学科に所属する学生は海事系航海分野を専門とする専門家の卵であり、またマスターマリナーの卵でもある。学生は専門科目の中で、船舶にとって重要なセンサの一つである方位センサとしてジャイロ・コンパスを勉強しなければならない。本稿では、その教育をより効果的なものとするための教材として、最新の分解・組立型ジャイロ・カット模型(アンシューツ系)を紹介する。本カット模型は横河電子機器株式会社の協力のもと、最新モデルであるCMZ900を用いて作成した。Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMSAT) has been educating the maritime systems engineering, and a student can get a license of deck officer. We are always required the latest and the common knowledge for their education. The students have to study on a gyro-compass as a specialist of university student in maritime systems engineering of TUMSAT and a cadet of master mariner. In this paper, we introduce the dis/assembly-type gyro cut model (Anschutz system, CMZ900 series) as a new cut model for more effective education. This new cut model has been made by the cooperation of Yokogawa Denshikiki Co., Ltd.     An Effective Training and Evaluation Method for Anchoring Training in Maritime Education

    Captain Kashima et al. showed that ship handling skills significantly improve when anchoring exercises are practiced on training ships. And Kunieda et al. showed that the practicing on training ships also develops critical thinking and problem-solving skills. We created an evaluation scale for elementary ship handling skills to measure the effects of different anchoring training methods. We assessed the training methods using a rubric evaluation list containing nine evaluation items. Group work was arranged before and after the anchoring training sessions based on the results from student questionnaires and instructor evaluations. Our results reveal the most effective training model for developing ship handling skills

    Characterization of wheat Bell1-type homeobox genes in floral organs of alloplasmic lines with Aegilops crassa cytoplasm

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Alloplasmic wheat lines with <it>Aegilops crassa </it>cytoplasm often show homeotic conversion of stamens into pistils under long-day conditions. In the pistillody-exhibiting florets, an ectopic ovule is formed within the transformed stamens, and female sterility is also observed because of abnormal integument development.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>In this study, four wheat <it>Bell1</it>-like homeobox (<it>BLH</it>) genes were isolated and named <it>WBLH1 </it>to <it>WBLH4</it>. <it>WBLH1</it>/<it>WBLH3</it>/<it>WBLH4 </it>expression was observed in the basal boundary region of the ovary in both normal pistils and transformed stamens. <it>WBLH2 </it>was also strongly expressed in integuments not only of normal ovules in pistils but also of the ectopic ovules in transformed stamens, and the <it>WBLH2 </it>expression pattern in the sterile pistils seemed to be identical to that in normal ovules of fertile pistils. In addition, WBLH1 and WBLH3 showed interactions with the three wheat KNOX proteins through the BEL domain. WBLH2, however, formed a complex with wheat KNOTTED1 and ROUGH SHEATH1 orthologs through SKY and BEL domains, but not with a wheat LIGULELESS4 ortholog.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Expression of the four <it>WBLH </it>genes is evident in reproductive organs including pistils and transformed stamens and is independent from female sterility in alloplasmic wheat lines with <it>Ae. crassa </it>cytoplasm. KNOX-BLH interaction was conserved among various plant species, indicating the significance of KNOX-BLH complex formation in wheat developmental processes. The functional features of <it>WBLH2 </it>are likely to be distinct from other <it>BLH </it>gene functions in wheat development.</p

    「學徒海洋教練報告1942」に観る海洋教育に関する若干の考察

    本稿は、昭和十七年八月に神戸高等商船学校で実施された「學徒海洋教練」の報告書を資料として紹介するとともに、現在、本学が継承し、教育研究している海洋系実習が歴史的にみても学生の人材育成のための社会に広く認知された普遍的全人教育手法の一つであることを当該報告書にみられる感想から再確認するとともに、海洋国日本における海洋教育の社会的認知度向上の必要性と重要性について若干の考察を行うものである。Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMSAT) has been educating students “all round education” based on the marine education and research. The marine education is one of important aspects to success “all round education” quickly in TUMSAT.
