Maker Movements, Do-It-Yourself Cultures and Participatory Design: Implications for HCI Research
Falling costs and the wider availability of computational components, platforms and ecosystems have enabled the expansion of maker movements and DIY cultures. This can be considered as a form of democratization of technology systems design, in alignment with the aims of Participatory Design approaches. However, this landscape is constantly evolving, and long-term implications for the HCI community are far from clear. The organizers of this one-day workshop invite participants to present their case studies, experiences and perspectives on the topic with the goal of increasing understanding within this area of research. The outcomes of the workshop will include the articulation of future research directions with the purpose of informing a research agenda, as well as the establishment of new collaborations and networks
Tritium Beta Decay, Neutrino Mass Matrices and Interactions Beyond the Standard Model
The interference of charge-changing interactions, weaker than the V-A
Standard Model (SM) interaction and having a different Lorentz structure, with
that SM interaction, can, in principle, produce effects near the end point of
the Tritium beta decay spectrum which are of a different character from those
produced by the purely kinematic effect of neutrino mass expected in the
simplest extension of the SM. We show that the existence of more than one mass
eigenstate can lead to interference effects at the end point that are stronger
than those occurring over the entire spectrum. We discuss these effects both
for the special case of Dirac neutrinos and the more general case of Majorana
neutrinos and show that, for the present precision of the experiments, one
formula should suffice to express the interference effects in all cases.

Gender and the European town: sites of political activity and citizenship
This volume offers an integrated set of local studies exploring the gendering of political activities across a variety of sites ranging from print culture, courts, government and philanthropic bodies and public spaces, outlining how a particular activity was constituted as political and exploring how this contributed to a gendered concept of citizenship. The comparative and transnational perspectives revealed through combining such work contributes to establishing new knowledge about the relationship between gender, citizenship and the development of the modern town in Northern Europe
Wave Loadings acting on an innovative breakwater for energyproduction.
The paper reports on 2D small scale experiments conducted to investigate wave loadings acting on a pilot project
of device for the conversion of wave energy into electricity. The conversion concept is based on the overtopping
principle and the structure is worldwide known with the acronym SSG. The hydraulic model tests have been
carried out at the LInC laboratory of the University of Naples Federico II using random waves. Results indicate
wave overtopping is able to cause a sudden inversion of vertical force under wave crest, so that it is alternatively
upward and downward directed over a short time interval. It is also shown that two calculation methods widely
employed in the Japanese design practice of vertical face breakwaters, namely Goda (1975) and Hiroi (1919),
could be used to achieve safe estimates of the hydrodynamic loadings
