In my First Year Seminar Class, I designed and crafted a menorah and matching candles using the 3D printer and wax. I worked on this project over the course of a few weeks, facing construction obstacles along the way, but in the end I was thrilled with the results

Hybrid Wall Outlet for AC or DC Power Delivery

The goal of this project is to develop hybrid DC and AC wall outlets for an efficient, flexible power interface. A DC plug standard is also proposed to allow DC devices to be safely powered by the outlet with the correct DC voltage for each device. The primary objective is to create a power outlet compatible with the proposed DC plug as well as NEMA 5-15 AC plugs, enabling the same outlet to power both types of load as needed. The outlet is intended for buildings and systems transitioning to an isolated DC grid to encourage DC development and adoption. Existing wall wiring will be given 48V DC and used to power these devices, avoiding expensive rewiring when retrofitting. The outlet uses an H-bridge topology to facilitate DC to AC conversion, a Boost topology to reach standard wall voltage, and a Buck topology for DC voltage applications

A matéria não é pacífica, trazendo-se um contraponto de opiniões e entendimentos, demonstrando-se que a questão da estigmatização social do condenado é prevalente no sistema penal. Podendo-se falar numa certa tendência dos Tribunais Superiores para reconhecer a reprovação do candidato em face de situações que coloquem em xeque funções primordiais do Estado, como a Segurança Pública, e uma conduta desviante pretérita deste candidato, de modo a atuar na preservação dos interesses da Administração Pública e da sociedade

Quantitative enzyme profiles of plaques of multiple sclerosis

Quantitative histochemische Methoden für Milchsäuredehydrogenase und DPN-Diaphorase wurden zum Studium von Plaques von multipler Sklerose in menschlichem post-mortem -Material angewendet. Im Vergleich mit myelinisierter weisser Substanz zeigten die Plaques eine um 28% vermehrte Fermentaktivität in der Randzone und eine Abnahme von 64% innerhalb des demyelinisierten Gewebes, was mit Veränderungen der intrazellulären Fermentverteilung in Beziehung gebracht werden kann.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/42004/1/18_2005_Article_BF02150691.pd

Teoria feminista e pesquisa em Educação Ambiental:: Os saberes nas águas e nos campos e o processo histórico de invisibilização das mulheres

This article starts from reflections carried out through research that have as a central element to present the process by which women living in coastal rural regions in southern Rio Grande do Sul cross over the years when performing activities considered mostly male. Thus, in this text, we seek to present, from a research carried out with fishing women on board in the lagoons in the extreme south of Brazil, especially through the ethnographic material, as well as a research that has been developed to understand the way of life of mulheres campeiras[1] how feminist theories of decolonial and intersectional perspective provide us with fundamental elements to think critically about the conditions of oppression of women in the world from difference. Building research committed to difference, is to occupy places, is to be at the table, is to understand diversity, discuss and propose joint actions seeking a more just and egalitarian way of living with everything that makes up this world, whether human or beyond the human.   [1] Campeiro (man) or campeira (woman) – the man or woman who works with cattle farms. We don’t translate this keyword, although we could translate "mulheres campeiras" as peasant women, but campeira’s life goes beyond the peasantry and rural life. It’s a way of life proper to the Brazilian, Argentine and Uruguayan Pampa region.O presente artigo parte de reflexões realizadas através de pesquisas[1] que têm como elemento central apresentar o processo pelo qual mulheres que vivem nas regiões rurais costeiras no sul do Rio Grande do Sul atravessam ao longo dos anos quando desempenham atividades consideradas, majoritariamente, masculinas. Assim, neste texto, buscamos apresentar, a partir de uma pesquisa realizada com pescadoras embarcadas nas lagoas no extremo sul do Brasil, especialmente por meio do material etnográfico, bem como de uma pesquisa que vem sendo desenvolvida para compreender o modo de vida das mulheres campeiras, o quanto as teorias feministas de perspectiva decolonial e interseccional nos fornecem elementos fundamentais para pensar criticamente sobre as condições de opressão das mulheres no mundo a partir da diferença. Construir pesquisas comprometidas com a diferença, é ocupar lugares, é estar à mesa, é compreender a diversidade, discutir e propor ações conjuntas buscando um viver de forma mais justa e igualitária com tudo que compõe esse mundo, seja humano ou para além do humano.   [1] São duas as pesquisas de doutorado em Educação Ambiental que dão base para este artigo. Neste momento, uma delas se encontra encerrada – com mulheres pescadoras, enquanto a outra – com mulheres campeiras, está em fase de desenvolvimento

Interactive Narrative Design beyond the Secret Art Status: A Method to Verify Design Conventions for Interactive Narrative

In recent years, game narrative has emerged as an area for novel game concepts and as a strategy to distinguish a particular title. However, innovation in this area comes primarily from indie companies and individual efforts by noted designers. There is a lack of trained specialists ready to produce interactive narrative experiences. Many existing practitioners are self-trained and often rely on intuition in their design practice. A key element missing from the effort towards a more sustained development and improved professional training is a set of design conventions that fulfill a role comparable to cinematic conventions like continuity editing or montage. Therefore, our research focuses on identifying, verifying and collecting such design strategies. We describe an empirical method to verify candidate design conventions through the evaluation of user reaction to A/B prototypes, which improves upon the trial-and-error process of old
