Diagnosis and treatment of urticaria and angioedema: a worldwide perspective

Urticaria and angioedema are common clinical conditions representing a major concern for physicians and patients alike. The World Allergy Organization (WAO), recognizing the importance of these diseases, has contributed to previous guidelines for the diagnosis and management of urticaria. The Scientific and Clinical Issues Council of WAO proposed the development of this global Position Paper to further enhance the clinical management of these disorders through the participation of renowned experts from all WAO regions of the world. Sections on definition and classification, prevalence, etiology and pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis are based on the best scientific evidence presently available. Additional sections devoted to urticaria and angioedema in children and pregnant women, quality of life and patient-reported outcomes, and physical urticarias have been incorporated into this document. It is expected that this article will supplement recent international guidelines with the contribution of an expert panel designated by the WAO, increasing awareness of the importance of urticaria and angioedema in medical practice and will become a useful source of information for optimum patient management worldwide

Connection between Psychopathic Traits, Violence Experience and Playing Violent Video Games in Adolescence

Pētījuma mērķis ir noskaidrot kā psihopātijas iezīmes pusaudžiem ir saistītas ar vardarbīgu videospēļu spēlēšanu un vardarbības pieredzi bērnībā, un vai saistība starp psihopātijas iezīmēm un negatīvu bērnības pieredzi ir ciešāka, nekā starp psihopātijas iezīmēm un vardarbīgu videospēļu spēlēšanu. Pētījumā piedalījās 109 respondenti vecumā no 15-17 gadiem. Datu iegūšanai tika izmantota datorspēļu atpauja (Puriņa, 2010), Viseiropas Spēļu informācijas mājaslapas – The Pan-European Game Information (PEGI) sistēmas novērtējums, Jauniešu psihopātisko iezīmju aptauja (Andershed et al, 2002) un Bērnības traumu aptauja (Fink & Bernstein, 1995). Pētījuma rezultātos tika konstatētas saistības starp psihopātijas iezīmēm un vardarbības pieredzi ģimenē, kā arī starp psihopātijas iezīmēm un vardarbīgu videospēļu spēlēšanu. Psihopātijas iezīmju saistība ar vardarbības pieredzi ģimenē ir tikpat cieša, cik saistība ar vardarbīgu videospēļu spēlēšanu.The goal of the study is to determine wether psychopathic traits in adolescents are connected to playing violent videogames and childhood violence experience, aswell as determing wether connection between psychopathic traits and negative childhood experience is stronger than the connection between psychopathic traits and violent videogame playing. 109 participants aged between 15-17 took part in the study. Three questionares were used for the collection of data – video game questionnare (Puriņa, 2010), The Pan-European Game Information (PEGI) evaluation, Youth Psychopathic Traits Inventory (Andershed et al, 2002) and Childhood Trauma Questionare (Fink & Bernstein, 1995). A connection between psychopathic traits and childhood violence experience was observed, as well as a connection between psychopathic traits and violent videogame playing. The strength of the connection between psychopathic traits and childhood violence experience is equal to that of the connection between psychopathic traits and violent videogame playing

Dark Tetrad Personality Traits as Predictors of Impulsivity and Decision Making for Airline Pilots

Pētījums izvirza hipotēzi, ka pilotiem ar augstākiem tumšās tetrādes rādītājiem būs augstāka impulsivitāte un raksturīgāka nereflektīvā domāšana. Pētījuma dalībnieki ir lidsabiedrības SmartLynx piloti. Izlase sastāv no 61 cilvēka, kuru vidējais vecums ir 36,5 gadi (M = 36,57, SD = 10,88). Darba ietvaros tika izmantotas četras aptaujas. Īsā tumšās triādes aptauja (Short Dark Triad scale (SD3; Paulhus & Williams, 2002). Aptauja sastāv no 27 apgalvojumiem un mēra narcisismu, psihopātiju un Makjavellismu. CRT (Cognitive reflection test, Frederick, 2005) jeb kognitīvās refleksijas tests, kurš sastāv no 3 uzdevumiem. Šis tests mēra reflektīvo domāšanu. Comprehensive Assessment of Sadistic Tendencies (CAST, Buckels, Trapnell & Paulhus, 2014) jeb sadistisko tendenču visaptverošs novērtējums “ikdienas sadismam” neklīniskā izlasē. CAST ietver trīs apakšskalas, lai izmērītu gan tiešu (gan verbālu, gan fizisku) un netiešu sadismu. Barrata impulsivitātes skala (BIS-11; Patton et al., 1995) ir aptauja, kas izstrādāta, lai novērtētu impulsivitātes izpausmes personībā un uzvedībā. Pētījuma hipotēze daļēji apstiprinājās. Kognitīvās refleksijas tests neveidoja statistiski nozīmīgas saistības ar tumšās tetrādes rādītājiem un impulsivitāti. Savukārt dalībniekiem ar augstākiem tumšās tetrādes rādītājiem ir augstāka impulsivitāte. Tumšās tetrādes mainīgie lielumi statistiski nozīmīgi paredz impulsivitāti pilotu izlasē.The study hypothesizes that pilots with higher scores on dark tetrad measures have higher impulsivity and more pronounced non-reflective thinking. The study participants are pilots from the SmartLynx airline. The mean age is 36,5 years (M = 36,57, SD = 10,88) with a total of 61 participants. Four questionnaires were used in the study. The Short Dark Triad scale (SD3; Paulhus & Williams, 2002) consists of 27 statements and measures narcissism, psychopathy and Machiavellianism. The CRT (Cognitive reflection test, Frederick, 2005) includes 3 tasks and measures reflective thinking. Comprehensive Assessment of Sadistic Tendencies (CAST, Buckels, Trapnell & Paulhus, 2014) is a measure for “everyday sadism” in a non-clinical sample. The Barrat Impulsivity Scale (BIS-11; Patton et al., 1995) is a survey designed to assess the personality / behavior construct of impulsivity. The hypothesis is partially confirmed. The cognitive reflection test does not exhibit statistically significant relationship with dark tetrad scores and impulsivity. On the other hand, participants with higher scores on dark tetrad have higher impulsivity. The dark tetrad variables also predicted statistically significant impulsivity in the pilot sample
