    Vector opinion dynamics in a model for social influence

    We present numerical simulations of a model of social influence, where the opinion of each agent is represented by a binary vector. Agents adjust their opinions as a result of random encounters, whenever the difference between opinions is below a given threshold. Evolution leads to a steady state, which highly depends on the threshold and a convergence parameter of the model. We analyze the transition between clustered and homogeneous steady states.     Gauge Theory on Noncommutative Supersphere from Supermatrix Model

    We construct a supermatrix model which has a classical solution representing the noncommutative (fuzzy) two-supersphere. Expanding supermatrices around the classical background, we obtain a gauge theory on a noncommutative superspace on sphere. This theory has osp(12)osp(1|2) supersymmetry and u(2L+12L)u(2L+1|2L) gauge symmetry.     Anomalous diffusion and the first passage time problem

    We study the distribution of first passage time (FPT) in Levy type of anomalous diffusion. Using recently formulated fractional Fokker-Planck equation we obtain three results. (1) We derive an explicit expression for the FPT distribution in terms of Fox or H-functions when the diffusion has zero drift. (2) For the nonzero drift case we obtain an analytical expression for the Laplace transform of the FPT distribution. (3) We express the FPT distribution in terms of a power series for the case of two absorbing barriers. The known results for ordinary diffusion (Brownian motion) are obtained as special cases of our more general results.Comment: 25 pages, 4 figure

    Gauge Theory and the Excision of Repulson Singularities

    We study brane configurations that give rise to large-N gauge theories with eight supersymmetries and no hypermultiplets. These configurations include a variety of wrapped, fractional, and stretched branes or strings. The corresponding spacetime geometries which we study have a distinct kind of singularity known as a repulson. We find that this singularity is removed by a distinctive mechanism, leaving a smooth geometry with a core having an enhanced gauge symmetry.     s-Wave Symmetry Along the c-Axis and s+d In-plane Superconductivity in Bulk YBa2Cu4O8

    To clarify the order parameter symmetry of cuprates, the magnetic penetration depth λ was measured along the crystallographic directions a, b, and c in single crystals of YBa2Cu4O8 via muon spin rotation. This method is direct, bulk sensitive, and unambiguous. The temperature dependences of λ a −2 and λ b −2 exhibit an inflection point at low temperatures as is typical for two-gap superconductivity (TGS) with s+d-wave character in the planes. Perpendicular to the planes a pure s-wave gap is observed thereby highlighting the important role of c-axis effects. We conclude that these are generic and universal features in the bulk of cuprates

    Dynamical phase transitions in Hegselmann-Krause model of opinion dynamics and consensus

    The dynamics of the model of agents with limited confidence introduced by Hegselmann and Krause exhibits multiple well-separated regimes characterised by the number of distinct clusters in the stationary state. We present indications that there are genuine dynamical phase transitions between these regimes. The main indicator is the divergence of the average evolution time required to reach the stationary state. The slowdown close to the transition is connected with the emergence of the groups of mediator agents which are very small but have decisive role in the process of social convergence. More detailed study shows that the histogram of the evolution times is composed of several peaks. These peaks are unambiguously interpreted as corresponding to mediator groups consisting of one, two, three etc. agents.     A novel, conserved gene of the rat that is developmentally regulated in the testis.

    From a rat testis library three overlapping cDNA clones were isolated that represent a novel single-copy gene, designated Tegt. Two transcripts of 2.8 and 1.0 kb were found in each organ tested. The shorter transcript was highly abundant in adult testis. A similar expression pattern was found in the mouse. Analysis of rat RNA from different stages of spermatogenesis indicated that accumulation of the short transcript occurred mainly postmeiotically.
