Revisiting the theoretical DBV (V777 Her) instability strip: the MLT theory of convection
We reexamine the theoretical instability domain of pulsating DB white dwarfs
(DBV or V777 Her variables). We performed an extensive -mode nonadiabatic
pulsation analysis of DB evolutionary models considering a wide range of
stellar masses, for which the complete evolutionary stages of their progenitors
from the ZAMS, through the thermally pulsing AGB and born-again phases, the
domain of the PG1159 stars, the hot phase of DO white dwarfs, and then the DB
white dwarf stage have been considered. We explicitly account for the evolution
of the chemical abundance distribution due to time-dependent chemical diffusion
processes. We examine the impact of the different prescriptions of the MLT
theory of convection and the effects of small amounts of H in the almost
He-pure atmospheres of DB stars on the precise location of the theoretical blue

Exclusive Breastfeeding and Developmental and Behavioral Status in Early Childhood
Breastfeeding during infancy may have beneficial effects on various developmental outcomes in childhood. In this study, exclusively breastfed infants were randomly assigned to receive complementary foods from the age of 4 months in addition to breast milk (CF, n = 60), or to exclusively breastfeed to 6 months (EBF, n = 59). At 18 months and again at 30â35 months of age, the children were evaluated with the Parentâs Evaluation of Developmental Status questionnaire (PEDS) and the Brigance Screens-II. The parents completed the PEDS questionnaire at both time intervals and the children underwent the Brigance Screens-II at 30â35 months. At 30â35 months, no significant differences were seen in developmental scores from the Brigance screening test (p = 0.82). However, at 30â35 months a smaller percentage of parents in group CF (2%) had concerns about their childrenâs gross motor development compared to those in group EBF (19%; p = 0.01), which remained significant when adjusted for differences in pre-randomization characteristics (p = 0.03). No sustained effect of a longer duration of exclusive breastfeeding was seen on selected measures of developmental and behavioral status at 18 months, although at 30â35 months, a smaller percentage of parents of children introduced to complementary foods at four months of age expressed concerns about their gross motor development
Second harmonic generation in SiC polytypes
LMTO calculations are presented for the frequency dependent second harmonic
generation (SHG) in the polytypes 2H, 4H, 6H, 15R and 3C of SiC. All
independent tensor components are calculated. The spectral features and the
ratios of the 333 to 311 tensorial components are studied as a function of the
degree of hexagonality. The relationship to the linear optical response and the
underlying band structure are investigated. SHG is suggested to be a sensitive
tool for investigating the near band edge interband excitations.Comment: 12 pages, 10 figure
Hydrodynamic theory of an electron gas
The generalised hydrodynamic theory of an electron gas, which does not rely
on an assumption of a local equilibrium, is derived as the long-wave limit of a
kinetic equation. Apart from the common hydrodynamics variables the theory
includes the tensor fields of the higher moments of the distribution function.
In contrast to the Bloch hydrodynamics, the theory leads to the correct plasmon
dispersion and in the low frequency limit recovers the Navies-Stocks
hydrodynamics. The linear approximation to the generalised hydrodynamics is

Using a model of group psychotherapy to support social research on sensitive topics
This article describes the exploratory use of professional therapeutic support by social researchers working on a sensitive topic. Talking to recently bereaved parents about the financial implications of their child's death was expected to be demanding work, and the research design included access to an independent psychotherapeutic service. Using this kind of professional support is rare within the general social research community, and it is useful to reflect on the process. There are likely to be implications for collection and interpretation of data, research output and the role and experience of the therapist. Microscopic Theory of Magnon-Drag Thermoelectric Transport in Ferromagnetic Metals
A theoretical study of the magnon-drag Peltier and Seebeck effects in
ferromagnetic metals is presented. A magnon heat current is described
perturbatively from the microscopic viewpoint with respect to electron--magnon
interactions and the electric field. Then, the magnon-drag Peltier coefficient
\Pi_\MAG is obtained as the ratio between the magnon heat current and the
electric charge current. We show that \Pi_\MAG=C_\MAG T^{5/2} at a low
temperature ; that the coefficient C_\MAG is proportional to the spin
polarization of the electric conductivity; and that for C_\MAG<0,
but . From experimental results for magnon-drag Peltier
effects, we estimate that the strength of the electron--magnon interaction is
