    On Hardy type spaces in strictly pseudoconvex domains and the density, in these spaces, of certain classes of singular functions

    In this paper we prove generic results concerning Hardy spaces in one or several complex variables. More precisely, we show that the generic function in certain Hardy type spaces is totally unbounded and hence non-extentable, despite the fact that these functions have non tangential limits at the boundary of the domain. We also consider local Hardy spaces and show that generically these functions do not belong, not even locally, to Hardy spaces of higher order. We work first in the case of the unit ball of Cn where the calculations are easier and the results are somehow better, and then we extend them to the case of strictly pseudoconvex domains

    Genes Associated with Recurrence of Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Integrated Analysis by Gene Expression and Methylation Profiling

    Gene expression is suppressed by DNA methylation. The goal of this study was to identify genes whose CpG site methylation and mRNA expression are associated with recurrence after surgical resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Sixty-two HCCs were examined by both whole genome DNA methylation and transcriptome analysis. The Cox model was used to select genes associated with recurrence. A validation was performed in an independent cohort of 66 HCC patients. Among fifty-nine common genes, increased CpG site methylation and decreased mRNA expression were associated with recurrence for 12 genes (Group A), whereas decreased CpG site methylation and increased mRNA expression were associated with recurrence for 25 genes (Group B). The remaining 22 genes were defined as Group C. Complement factor H (CFH) and myosin VIIA and Rab interacting protein (MYRIP) in Group A; proline/serine-rich coiled-coil 1 (PSRC1), meiotic recombination 11 homolog A (MRE11A), and myosin IE (MYO1E) in Group B; and autophagy-related protein LC3 A (MAP1LC3A), and NADH dehydrogenase 1 alpha subcomplex assembly factor 1 (NDUFAF1) in Group C were validated. In conclusion, potential tumor suppressor (CFH, MYRIP) and oncogenes (PSRC1, MRE11A, MYO1E) in HCC are reported.     The Prognostic Role of RASSF1A Promoter Methylation in Breast Cancer: A Meta-Analysis of Published Data

Studies were pooled and summary hazard ratios (HR) with corresponding confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. Funnel plots were also carried out to evaluate publication bias. promoter methylation status with OS in 1439 patients. The hazard estimates ranged from 1.21–6.90 with a combined random-effects estimates of 3.47 (95%CI 1.44–8.34). OS reported in multivariate analysis was evaluated in four series comprising 1346 cases and the summarized random-effects HR estimate was 3.35 (95%CI 1.14–9.85). Additionally, no publication bias was detected for both OS and DFS. promoter methylation

    Mutations in Protein-Binding Hot-Spots on the Hub Protein Smad3 Differentially Affect Its Protein Interactions and Smad3-Regulated Gene Expression

    Hub proteins are connected through binding interactions to many other proteins. Smad3, a mediator of signal transduction induced by transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), serves as a hub protein for over 50 protein-protein interactions. Different cellular responses mediated by Smad3 are the product of cell-type and context dependent Smad3-nucleated protein complexes acting in concert. Our hypothesis is that perturbation of this spectrum of protein complexes by mutation of single protein-binding hot-spots on Smad3 will have distinct consequences on Smad3-mediated responses.We mutated 28 amino acids on the surface of the Smad3 MH2 domain and identified 22 Smad3 variants with reduced binding to subsets of 17 Smad3-binding proteins including Smad4, SARA, Ski, Smurf2 and SIP1. Mutations defective in binding to Smad4, e.g., D408H, or defective in nucleocytoplasmic shuttling, e.g., W406A, were compromised in modulating the expression levels of a Smad3-dependent reporter gene or six endogenous Smad3-responsive genes: Mmp9, IL11, Tnfaip6, Fermt1, Olfm2 and Wnt11. However, the Smad3 mutants Y226A, Y297A, W326A, K341A, and E267A had distinct differences on TGF-β signaling. For example, K341A and Y226A both reduced the Smad3-mediated activation of the reporter gene by ∼50% but K341A only reduced the TGF-β inducibilty of Olfm2 in contrast to Y226A which reduced the TGF-β inducibility of all six endogenous genes as severely as the W406A mutation. E267A had increased protein binding but reduced TGF-β inducibility because it caused higher basal levels of expression. Y297A had increased TGF-β inducibility because it caused lower Smad3-induced basal levels of gene expression.Mutations in protein binding hot-spots on Smad3 reduced the binding to different subsets of interacting proteins and caused a range of quantitative changes in the expression of genes induced by Smad3. This approach should be useful for unraveling which Smad3 protein complexes are critical for specific biological responses

    Σε αυτήν την εργασία παρουσιάζουμε αρκετά αποτελέσματα που αφορούν κυρίως εφαρμογές του θεώρηματος της Κατηγορίας του Baire στη μιγαδική ανάλυση σε μία και στις πολλές μιγαδικές μεταβλητές. Ένα σημαντικό πρόβλημα στη μιγαδική ανάλυση είναι εάν υπάρχει μια ολόμορφη συνάρτηση f, σε ένα δεδομένο ανοιχτό σύνολο Ω σε C ^ n, η οποία είναι singular σε κάθε οριακό σημείο Ω. Επίσης, μελετήθηκε σε διάφορες κατευθύνσεις το πρόβλημα κατασκευής singular συναρτήσεων με συγκεκριμένες ιδιότητες - για παράδειγμα ικανοποίηση συγκεκριμένων συνθηκών ανάπτυξης κοντά στο σύνορο ή ορισμένης ομαλότητας μέχρι το σύνορο. Στη διατριβή αυτή δείχνουμε ότι - κάτω από συγκεκριμένους περιορισμούς στο ανοιχτό σύνολο - ότι το σύνολο των OL ^ p (ολόμορφη και L ^ p σε σχέση με το μέτρο Lebesgue) και H ^ p (ολόμορφη και H ^ p σε σχέση με το Ευκλείδειο επιφανειακό μέτρο στη σφαίρα), 1 ≤ p ≤∞, συναρτήσεων σε Ω και Β, οι οποίες είναι ολικά μη φραγμένες, είναι πυκνό και Gδ στο χώρο OL ^ p (Ω) και H ^ p(B) αντίστοιχα. An important problem in complex analysis is whether there exists a holomorphic function f, in a given open set Ω in C^n , which is singular at every boundary point of Ω. Also the problem of constructing singular functions with specific properties – for example satisfying certain growth conditions near the boundary or having certain smoothness upto the boundary – has been studied in various directions.     Block copolymers of styrene and stearyl methacrylate. Synthesis and micellization properties in selective solvents

    Block copolymers of styrene and stearyl methacrylate were prepared using anionic polymerization high-vacuum techniques by sequential addition of monomers. Narrow molecular weight distribution copolymers of different molecular weight and composition were obtained. The molecular characteristics of the copolymers were obtained by size exclusion chromatography, membrane osmometry, low-angle laser light scattering (LALLS), and differential scanning calorimetry. Comparative studies in the selective solvents for the polystyrene block, ethyl and methyl acetate, showed that mainly unimolecular micelles are formed in the former, whereas larger aggregates are observed in the latter solvent. LALLS, viscometry, and dynamic light scattering were used to characterize the micelles

    Synthesis and Solution Properties of Polymethacrylates with Alicyclic Side Groups

    The influence of alicyclic side groups on the unperturbed chain dimensions of polymethacrylates is reported. Cyclobutyl, cyclopentyl, cyclooctyl, and cyclododecyl side groups resulted in characteristic ratios respectively of 10.0, 11.2, 12.1, and 14.2. These findings indicate that an increase in the size of the alicyclic side group leads to a concomitant enhancement in C∞. The same trend was previously noted for poly(n-alkyl methacrylates). For alicyclic side groups C∞ is larger than for the corresponding poly(n-alkyl methacrylate). These differences are attributed to the diminished flexibility and closer center of mass (to the backbone) for alicyclic substituents. © 1989, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved
