    LHC Signatures of the Constrained Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model

    We discuss two striking Large Hadron Collider (LHC) signatures of the constrained version of the exceptional supersymmetric standard model (cE6SSM), based on a universal high energy soft scalar mass m_0, soft trilinear coupling A_0 and soft gaugino mass M_{1/2}. The first signature we discuss is that of light exotic colour triplet charge 1/3 fermions, which we refer to as D-fermions. We calculate the LHC production cross section of D-fermions, and discuss their decay patterns. Secondly we discuss the E6 type U(1)_N spin-1 Z' gauge boson and show how it may decay into exotic states, increasing its width and modifying the line shape of the dilepton final state. We illustrate these features using two representative cE6SSM benchmark points, including an "early LHC discovery" point, giving the Feynman rules and numerical values for the relevant couplings in order to facilitate further studies.Comment: 30 pages, 5 figures, corrections to figure caption

    Leptogenesis in the two right-handed neutrino model revisited

    We revisit leptogenesis in the minimal non-supersymmetric type I see-saw mechanism with two right-handed (RH) neutrinos, including flavour effects and allowing both RH neutrinos N_1 and N_2 to contribute, rather than just the lightest RH neutrino N_1 that has hitherto been considered. By performing scans over parameter space in terms of the single complex angle z of the orthogonal matrix R, for a range of PMNS parameters, we find that in regions around z \sim \pm \pi/2, for the case of a normal mass hierarchy, the N_2 contribution can dominate the contribution to leptogenesis, allowing the lightest RH neutrino mass to be decreased by about an order of magnitude in these regions, down to M_1 \sim 1.3*10^11 GeV for vanishing initial N_2-abundance, with the numerical results supported by analytic estimates. We show that the regions around z \sim \pm \pi /2 correspond to light sequential dominance, so the new results in this paper may be relevant to unified model building.Comment: 41 pages, 10 figures; v2 matches published version in PR

    SUPERMARKET CHARACTERISTICS AND OPERATING COSTS IN LOW-INCOME AREAS

    Whether the poor pay more for food than other income groups is an important question in food price policy research. Stores serving low-income shoppers differ in important ways from stores that receive less of their revenues from Food Stamp redemptions. Stores with more revenues from Food Stamps are generally smaller and older, and offer relatively fewer convenience services for shoppers. They also offer a different mix of products, with a relatively high portion of sales coming from meat and private-label products. Metro stores with high Food Stamp redemption rates lag behind other stores in the adoption of progressive supply chain and human resource practices. Finally, stores with the highest Food Stamp redemption rates have lower sales margins relative to other stores, but have significantly lower payroll costs as a percentage of sales. Overall, operating costs for stores with high Food Stamp redemption rates are not significantly different from those for stores with moderate Food Stamp redemption rates.     Phenomenological Consequences of the Constrained Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model

    The Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (E6_6SSM) provides a low energy alternative to the MSSM, with an extra gauged U(1)N_N symmetry, solving the μ\mu-problem of the MSSM. Inspired by the possible embedding into an E6_6 GUT, the matter content fills three generations of E6_6 multiplets, thus predicting exciting exotic matter such as diquarks or leptoquarks. We present predictions from a constrained version of the model (cE6_6SSM), with a universal scalar mass m0m_0, trilinear mass AA and gaugino mass M1/2M_{1/2}. We reveal a large volume of the cE6_6SSM parameter space where the correct breakdown of the gauge symmetry is achieved and all experimental constraints satisfied. We predict a hierarchical particle spectrum with heavy scalars and light gauginos, while the new exotic matter can be light or heavy depending on parameters. We present representative cE6_6SSM scenarios, demonstrating that there could be light exotic particles, like leptoquarks and a U(1)N_N Z' boson, with spectacular signals at the LHC.Comment: Contribution to the proceedings of SUSY 09, Boston, USA, June 2009, 4 page

    Design of a monitor and simulation terminal (master) for space station telerobotics and telescience

    Based on Space Station and planetary spacecraft communication time delays and bandwidth limitations, it will be necessary to develop an intelligent, general purpose ground monitor terminal capable of sophisticated data display and control of on-orbit facilities and remote spacecraft. The basic elements that make up a Monitor and Simulation Terminal (MASTER) include computer overlay video, data compression, forward simulation, mission resource optimization and high level robotic control. Hardware and software elements of a MASTER are being assembled for testbed use. Applications of Neural Networks (NNs) to some key functions of a MASTER are also discussed. These functions are overlay graphics adjustment, object correlation and kinematic-dynamic characterization of the manipulator
