In the adaptive reuse of the Paisley Mill, the intent of the design was to reflect the original use and construction of the mill. Additions and modifications were minimized and struct1Jral elements were exposed. The exterior elements in the renovation replaces a portion of he original painted wood siding with glazing which provides a connection for the interior spaces to the environment. allowing t-he green wall to reflect the surrounding woodlands. The new construction mainly involves the addition of this curtain wall assembly in select bays. The glazing continues from the roof to the ground floor allowing light and views between the interior and exterior. As the original cladding is retained on the exterior, the exposed structural members increase the presence of the building\u27s original construction on the interior, reflecting t-he long history of the building. This section shows the details of these floors and connections

    The Minimal Automorphism-Free Tree

A finite tree TT with V(T)2|V(T)| \geq 2 is called {\it automorphism-free} if there is no non-trivial automorphism of TT. Let AFT\mathcal{AFT} be the poset with the element set of all finite automorphism-free trees (up to graph isomorphism) ordered by T1T2T_1 \preceq T_2 if T1T_1 can be obtained from T2T_2 by successively deleting one leaf at a time in such a way that each intermediate tree is also automorphism-free. In this paper, we prove that AFT\mathcal{AFT} has a unique minimal element. This result gives an affirmative answer to the question asked by Rupinski.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure

'The Art of Being Home': Home and Travel in Shirley Geok-lin Lim’s Poetry

"'The Art of Being Home': Home and Travel in Shirley Geok-lin Lim's Poetry" is an exploration of Shirley Geok-lin Lim’s poetics of travel and home anchored in a narrative tracking a day spent with the poet. It is a sequel to “Walking between Land and Water,” an essay published in Asiatic, in which I combine a personal encounter with the poet with an examination of the tropes of walking and liminality in her work. Here the focus is more on the motif and theme of home in the poet’s work, as the essay excavates the complexities and ambiguities of the meaning of home, from her first collection to recently published poems. This essay identifies the shifts in the poet’s idea of where and what home is, and examines how it forms a counterpoint to the poetics of travel and transnational mobility that informs her work. So far, critical attention has been more on her relationship with Malacca, her place of origin, than on her self-mappings in her adopted hometown of Santa Barbara. The essay gives a portrait of the poet at home, and highlights the increasing importance of Santa Barbara in her poetry.

Investigation into the dual role of shear flow in 2D MHD turbulence

The turbulent diffusion eta(T) of a large-scale magnetic field B-0 is numerically studied in two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic turbulence with an imposed shear flow. We demonstrate that a shear flow plays a dual role, quenching transport through shear destruction and enhancing it via resonance. Specifically without resonance eta(T)proportional to B-0(-4) with no shear (rms shearing rate=Omega=0) and eta(T)proportional to Omega(-2.7) for B-0=0, while with resonance eta(T)proportional to B-0(-2)proportional to Omega(-2). These results indicate that the absence of resonance is responsible for the most catastrophic reductions in transport
