Distribution and sources of linear alkyl benzenes (LABs) in surface sediments from Johor Bahru Coast and the Kim Kim River, Malaysia
This study focuses on sewage pollution, which is one of the most important issues concerning Malaysians. The main location of this study is in Johor Bahru as it is one of the most populated areas in Malaysia. The distribution and sources of linear alkyl benzenes (LABs) were evaluated in surface sediments collected from Johor Bahru Coast and the Kim Kim River, Peninsular Malaysia. The samples were extracted, fractionated and analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). This study found that LABs concentrations ranged from 87.6 to 188.7 ng/g dw and 88.2 to 119.02 ng/g dw in surface sediments from Johor Bahru Coast and the Kim Kim River, respectively. Johor Bahru Coast showed an increasing trend of LABs concentrations due to rapid industrialization and population growth. The ratio of internal to external isomers (I/E ratio) of LABs in sediment samples from Johor Bahru Coast ranged from 1.76 to 2.04 while the I/E ratios in sediments from the Kim Kim River ranged from 1.72 to 1.91. All I/E ratios at Johor Bahru Coast and the Kim Kim River stations indicate that the areas were receiving primary and secondary effluents
Kendala Dan Cara Mengantisipasinya

In the Vortex of Intellectual Change: Buddhist–Confucian Tensions in Memorializing Kim Sisŭp
Kim Sisŭp lived during two of the most momentous intellectual changes in
Korea prior to the turn of the twentieth century. One was the invention of
the Korean alphabet in the middle of the fifteenth century, something that
posed a fundamental challenge to elite conceptions of literacy. Opposition to
the development of the alphabet among sections of the elite inadvertently
revealed the second great intellectual change, one that influenced Kim Sisŭp’s
life and how he would be remembered in the centuries following his death:
the ascendancy of Neo-Confucianism. The bellicose view that Buddhism was
anathema to civilization grew ever stronger in the centuries following Kim
Sisŭp’s death. That conservatism paralleled attitudes over literary production,
and in the century following Kim’s death, his authorship of the collection of
fictional tales in Kŭmo sinhwa would need to be explained away along with his
decision to become a Buddhist monk. This paper begins by sketching the tensions in the friendship between Kim
Sisŭp and Nam Hyoon through an analysis of Nam Hyoon’s excoriating petition to the court in 1478, then turns to the literary-biographical tensions surrounding
the attempts to memorialize Kim Sisŭp. These tensions erupted in 1700 in
a fight over Yulgok Yi I 栗谷 李珥 (1537–1584; hereafter, Yulgok), one of Kim’s
biographers, with the implication that Yulgok’s interest in Kim Sisŭp—and
thus Kim Sisŭp himself—violated orthodox requirements. I conclude with an
analysis of reading notes made in 1712 that illustrate Kim Sisŭp’s position in the
process of intellectual change in Chosŏn Korea

My works are a sort of journal, which is truly personal but at the same time belongs to the public. All of my experiences are connected to the outside world and each piece is connected to a story. I paint abstract emblems that stem from my interactions with people expecting their deaths, living as immigrants, or being disconnected from their pasts. My work represents my sympathy and compassion for the pain they have. I record my emotional and experiential individuality, based on the situations in which I have found myself. The precarious state of nature and the human environment are important to my work, as both a context for and continuation of the empathetic humanity my art conveys
