Electric Field Modulation of Galvanomagnetic Properties of Mesoscopic Graphite
Electric field effect devices based on mesoscopic graphite are fabricated for
galvanomagnetic measurements. Strong modulation of magneto-resistance and Hall
resistance as a function of gate voltage is observed as sample thickness
approaches the screening length. Electric field dependent Landau level
formation is detected from Shubnikov de Haas oscillations in
magneto-resistance. The effective mass of electron and hole carriers has been

Strategies for Imputation of High-Resolution Environmental Data in Clinical Randomized Controlled Trials.
Time series data collected in clinical trials can have varying degrees of missingness, adding challenges during statistical analyses. An additional layer of complexity is introduced for missing data in randomized controlled trials (RCT), where researchers must remain blinded between intervention and control groups. Such restriction severely limits the applicability of conventional imputation methods that would utilize other participants' data for improved performance. This paper explores and compares various methods to impute high-resolution temperature logger data in RCT settings. In addition to the conventional non-parametric approaches, we propose a spline regression (SR) approach that captures the dynamics of indoor temperature by time of day that is unique to each participant. We investigate how the inclusion of external temperature and energy use can improve the model performance. Results show that SR imputation results in 16% smaller root mean squared error (RMSE) compared to conventional imputation methods, with the gap widening to 22% when more than half of data is missing. The SR method is particularly useful in cases where missingness occurs simultaneously for multiple participants, such as concurrent battery failures. We demonstrate how proper modelling of periodic dynamics can lead to significantly improved imputation performance, even with limited data
using HYP-smeared staggered fermions in unquenched QCD
We present results for kaon mixing parameter calculated using
HYP-smeared improved staggered fermions on the MILC asqtad lattices. We use
three lattice spacings (, and fm), ten different
valence quark masses (), and several light sea-quark
masses in order to control the continuum and chiral extrapolations. We derive
the next-to-leading order staggered chiral perturbation theory (SChPT) results
necessary to fit our data, and use these results to do extrapolations based
both on SU(2) and SU(3) SChPT. The SU(2) fitting is particularly
straightforward because parameters related to taste-breaking and matching
errors appear only at next-to-next-to-leading order. We match to the continuum
renormalization scheme (NDR) using one-loop perturbation theory. Our final
result is from the SU(2) analysis, with the SU(3) result providing a (less
accurate) cross check. We find and ,
where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. The error is
dominated by the truncation error in the matching factor. Our results are
consistent with those obtained using valence domain-wall fermions on lattices

PRODUCT LIFECYCLE DATA SHARING AND VISUALISATION: WEB-BASED APPROACHES
Both product design and manufacturing are intrinsically collaborative processes. From conception and design to project completion and ongoing maintenance, all points in the lifecycle of any product involve the work of fluctuating teams of designers, suppliers and customers. That is why companies are involved in the creation of a distributed design and a manufacturing environment which could provide an effective way to communicate and share information throughout the entire enterprise and the supply chain. At present, the technologies that support such a strategy are based on World Wide Web platforms and follow two different paths. The first one focuses on 2D documentation improvement and introduces 3D interactive information in order to add knowledge to drawings. The second one works directly on 3D models and tries to extend the life of 3D data moving these design information downstream through the entire product lifecycle. Unfortunately the actual lack of a unique 3D Web-based standard has stimulated the growing up of many different proprietary and open source standards and, as a consequence, a production of an incompatible information exchange over the WEB. Simultaneous Optical Model Analyses of Elastic Scattering, Breakup, and Fusion Cross Section Data for the He + Bi System at Near-Coulomb-Barrier Energies
Based on an approach recently proposed by us, simultaneous
-analyses are performed for elastic scattering, direct reaction (DR)
and fusion cross sections data for the He+Bi system at
near-Coulomb-barrier energies to determine the parameters of the polarization
potential consisting of DR and fusion parts. We show that the data are well
reproduced by the resultant potential, which also satisfies the proper
dispersion relation. A discussion is given of the nature of the threshold
anomaly seen in the potential
Predictors of Academic Procrastination in Asian International College Students
This study examined the relationships among acculturative stress, coping styles, self-efficacy, English language proficiency, and various demographic characteristics as predictors of procrastination behavior in Asian International students (N = 255) studying in the United States. Results of multiple logistic regression indicated that a collective coping style, avoidant coping style, academic self-efficacy, and English language proficiency were the significant predictors of academic procrastination in non-Indian Asian international students. Implications for college student affairs professionals and researchers are addressed
The low level of debris disk activity at the time of the Late Heavy Bombardment: a Spitzer study of Praesepe
We present 24 micron photometry of the intermediate-age open cluster
Praesepe. We assemble a catalog of 193 probable cluster members that are
detected in optical databases, the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS), and at 24
micron, within an area of ~ 2.47 square degrees. Mid-IR excesses indicating
debris disks are found for one early-type and for three solar-type stars.
Corrections for sampling statistics yield a 24 micron excess fraction (debris
disk fraction) of 6.5 +- 4.1% for luminous and 1.9 +- 1.2% for solar-type
stars. The incidence of excesses is in agreement with the decay trend of debris
disks as a function of age observed for other cluster and field stars. The
values also agree with those for older stars, indicating that debris generation
in the zones that emit at 24 micron falls to the older 1-10 Gyr field star
sample value by roughly 750 Myr.
We discuss our results in the context of previous observations of excess
fractions for early- and solar-type stars. We show that solar-type stars lose
their debris disk 24 micron excesses on a shorter timescale than early-type
stars. Simplistic Monte Carlo models suggest that, during the first Gyr of
their evolution, up to 15-30% of solar-type stars might undergo an orbital
realignment of giant planets such as the one thought to have led to the Late
Heavy Bombardment, if the length of the bombardment episode is similar to the
one thought to have happened in our Solar System.
In the Appendix, we determine the cluster's parameters via boostrap Monte
Carlo isochrone fitting, yielding an age of 757 Myr (+- 36 Myr at 1 sigma
confidence) and a distance of 179 pc (+- 2 pc at 1 sigma confidence), not
